HAS PHAROAHE MONCH SIGNED TO SHADY/ AFTERMATH?
Last month Rawkus Records was finally put out to pasture, leaving a number of artists high and dry. Included on this list was Pharoahe Monch, who was expected to return with a new album after he'd released his single 'Agent Orange' back in… Speculation was rife that Pharoahe would find his contract being taken by Geffen Records, but now it seems there were a number of parties interested in gaining the MC's signature. Sources close to the long respected lyricist exclusively told The State that he's been in talks with a number of labels. Most notably Roc-A-Fella and Shady/ Aftermath. It was alleged that Eminem and Dr Dre were so keen to sign the MC, they flew to New York to do the meeting face to face. On seeing their commitment Pharoahe is alleged to have signed to the hit-making duo's imprint. According to the source Em will be making an announcement at sometime in the near future about the signing, but there's been no word from the rapper or Interscope at press time. As ever The State will keep you posted!
this sounds good if it pans out as long as there isn't too much dre production

Would definitely be of the hook, but I doubt that he'd release soon if this is true, because he's not that famous, and albums of Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, etc. would definitely come first.
It would be better to sign with Roc-A-Fella in my opinion, I think that would be real tight - Pharoahe on Kanye productions :o And on Roc-A-Fella he'd release sooner than on the 'Math.
-
No way do I want to see him on Aftermath, they're just as bad as Rawkus for not releasing albums. Roc-A-Fella could be good, at least they release albums.

kinda has me questioning the credibility of the article. dre's lazy ass will never leave LA for another person, trust me.

pharoahe monch with khalil and hi-tek would be even better. but youre right, roc-a-fella, for the most part, gets their albums on schedule (except when fags like memphis bleek are complaining to push back other peoples albums)

Seems like Aftermath is trying to create a monopoly. Let's just hope we see these albums actually on shelves.
-
Am I the only one who feels that Aftermath's roster is getting a bit big?

nope, especially the way they take so long on each album..it would be years between each album
-
I truly hope it's not true! Fuck it! Not another talent wasted, please!

This is just gettin fuckin stupid, fuck man,I mean Shady Records & Aftermath are gonna sign every1 in the rap game. There gonna take all the real ones & make em commercial rappers.Fuckin sick of this. Now I've almost lost all my respect to Dre.Fuck him for turnin Xzibit into a commercial rapper. The same thing he did wit 50.Did they even think how they are gonna make all the production for every rapper they signed?Bunch of bullshit. >:(

people wouldnt be signing there if they didnt want to, its not like they get no choice in the matter

I hope it ain't true...that'd just be too many cats on a label that releases about two records every decade

^^^^Similar to 50's situation...they gave him airplane tickets to go to LA so they could meet him face to face.
This would be cool, I'm all for it 8)
-
I sure hope not. I wanna see a Pharoahe album somewhen within the next ten years, and I don't wanna see his creativity being spoiled by Dre and Em's influence.

Yo, this is off the subject but what label is Kweli on now after Rawkus folded? Is he not on the Roc or something now? I don't know if that is right but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that on this board, but it could have just been speculation or which label someone would like to see him on. Does anyone know for sure which one he is on now, or is he currently a 'free agent'?
-
Talib Kweli is currently a free agent. Last thing I heard he was still negotiating with several labels (including Roc-A-Fella)...
-
Cool, thanks for the info CRAFTY. I personally think Kweli should go with Roc-A-Fella. Him and Kanye make a good combination and he has a good chance of dropping an album over there. Any word on Mos Def?? I'm beginning to doubt that he will EVER drop another record, but isn't he working on a new CD? I've definately seen a couple of newer tracks by him floating around on current mixtapes, such as the track with Ludicris. He inked a new deal yet? Its just that I find it pretty surprising that the entire former Rawkus roster hasn't been snapped up yet...
-
itd be good for aftermath f they released his cd, but i cant see how aftermath and jimmy would be happy enough to release a monch cd, ra left cuz he wasnt ready to become all gangsta again, homie became mature......i dont see how monch would get a cd released from aftermath.
-
fuck aftermath, with all the artists they got, they will NEVEr release his album, like poeple said rocafella would be better, they need some good rappers, and it would be good if talib signed with the roc also,

Actually Kweli and Mos were both signed by Geffen to release their next albums. Both their albums should be released somewhen in spring/early summer. However I think these are both just one album deals, and the major rumour going around is that they will both sign to Rocafella after these albums have been released.

This could be good (I know that could be a longshot) if the following happens:
1. Eminem does not do any production on this album. God he's an awful producer.
2. Hi-Tek gets down on this album for production. He got down on Truth Hurts' LP so you never know.
3. If Dre could give him a couple of his heater beats as opposed to leftover tracks, yeah hope against hope.
4. Dre doesn't try to change who Pharoah is as an artist.
-
I agree with Halu Sination on this, it dont sound true with the whole flyin out thing n shit

word. it's not like the 'math releases horrible albums either....but then again, they don't really release all that many....

Pharo Would Be Good . But I'm Still Pissed About Rakim. What Dre Needs To Do Is Get RAs Kass On The Label And Get Him Popin'. What The Fuck Are You Waiting For Dre, Sign The Man.

i think it could be a good thing if pharoahe went to shady/aftermath, if they bought the tracks hes already recorded for Inner Visions, we might see an album that only had a few shady/aftermath influenced joints on it. would also mean quicker release
