Title: Rhythm-al-ism or Dre's Chronic 2001
Post by: ACGRUNDY on March 06, 2004, 09:56:12 AM
I go with  rhythmalism.  highly underrated album, maybe not by this forum (and hardcore rap fans) but to the general public, highly underrated.

Rhythm-al-ism, no question.

2001 was pretty much flawless for the first half, but after that there's just too much filler (same problem as the original Chronic in my opinion).

Quik's album, on the other hand, is one of the freshest records I've ever heard, in any genre, from any time. If it had been pushed right he could have totally changed the game with that CD, no doubt.

"Chronic 2001" simply cannot fuck with "Rhythm-al-ism."  Everything on Quik's album is better.

rhythm-al-ism by far.

and the original chronic didn't have any filler on side 2.  lyrical gangbang?  stranded on death row?  high powered?  bitches ain't shit???

how the fuck are you gonna say the chronic had too much filler on side 2?

"a nigga with a gun", "rat a tat tat"...that shit was cool too.

and i should clown your ass for talking about "side 1" and "side 2" you cassette playing ass muthafucka.  this is 2003.  step it up.  but i had that shit on cassette too, back in the day, so i'll let that slide :)

lol... that aimed at me?

Those tracks are all cool, but IMO you can't put 'High Powered' up against 'Dre Day', or 'Nigga Wit A Gun' up against  'G Thang' or 'Standed on Death Row' up against 'Let Me Ride' to take three random examples... the first half of the album was the classic tracks. The second half was just the regular tracks :P

and that little 'side 1 / 2' rant? I never mentioned 'side 1' or 'side 2'. I talked about 'halves'. CDs still have a first and second half dude.

Oh yeah... and I should clown YOU for saying 'this is 2003', you no-calendar-having ass muthafucka... rofl

"bitches ain't shit" is a classic, but other than that, ok.  the first half is a little better than the second.  could you imagine if every album, the worst "filler" tracks sounded like side 2 of the chronic (even without "bitches ain't shit") :o

that's all i'm saying.

the chronic came out in '92.

name 5 cd's in '92 that were better than the chronic.  other than maybe ice cube - "the predator" or king tee - "the triflin' album"
i can't see that happening.

in '93 we had eazy e - "it's on (<strike>(dr dre)</strike> 187<small>um</small> killa, ren - the shock of the hour, another cube (lethal injection), snoop-doggystyle and wu tang (enter the 36 chambers) droppin'.  so maybe you can argue 5 albums in '93,  but other than wu, every album mentioned was heavily influenced by the chronic anyway.  and you can hear some influence in wu as well.

yes, but there's nothing funny about vinyl.  it has much better sound quality than tapes, and alot of rare remixes are only released on vinyl.  you can't clown someone for having vinyl.

Was that aimed at me, cause I was just saying that the dude could have been talking about vinyl, when he got clowned cause everyone assumed he was talking about cassettes. I got a lot of vinyl.

Damn this board has got to hell.  Rhythm-al-ism better than 2001 are you kidding me?  People on here just have to be different than the norm huh?  Rhythm-al-ism is a hot album no doubt but even if the production is equally dope, 2001 is much better in the lyrics/MCin' department.

Rhythm-al-ism.

2001 is a great album. GREAT. But it has too many fillers. Rhythm-al-ism is way more solid and consistent, keeping the same vibe all over the cd.

I'll vote for Chronic 2001. Both Rhythm-al-ism and 2001 are excellent and classic masterpiece albums - BUT - on Rhythm-al-ism I feel Quik doesn't have quite his own sound. And there's also the fact that 2001 set the bar for Hip-Hop production when it came out. Not too many guys can get over that bar even today. Plus there's the lyrics bit - I feel 2001 had better raps on it, classic ones.

I ain't feeling some of y'all on the filler department though - there's not one track on 2001 that I skip or wouldn't feel as much as the others. To me it's solid.

There were better albums in 92oose beaides the "babbage"

1.Above The Law-Black Mafia Life(Tis is how real G-Funk sounds like)
2.Tweedy Bird Loc-187 Ride By(T-Bird kickin' knowledge as usual)
3.Gang Starr-Daily Operation-(This album is better than D-R-E's career from 92oose to present times)
4.Esham-Vol 1.Judgement Day-(First solid release from the boogieman himself)
5.South Central Cartel-SC Madness(Real Gangstas,Real Situations,Real Lyrics)

tweedy bird loc's album was terrible.  willie d's album was terrible.  black mafia life might have been g-funk, but it was nowhere near as refined as on the chronic (which is extremely raw compared to doggystyle).  and certainly big hutch recognized this, because he smoothed out that atl sound alot for uncle sam's curse.

2001 is better lyrically, no thanks to Dre. That album started out good, then it got wack towards the end. I think Rhythm-al-ism is consistent throughout the whole album.

I think that Dre sounds as good as he ever has on that CD.  Everyone came thru on that album, including Dre (check "The Watcher" for evidence).  The reason I think the second half might suffer is just because of the garbage skits in the way but it's still not enough to bring it down.

The fact that people don't see things the way you do pisses you off, doesn't it?

Not really, I just state my views and what I notice.  (which is always right BTW)
