Title: fuck mixtapes
Post by: Don Breezio on March 07, 2004, 10:32:28 AM
alright i dont understand this...guys like

big mike, dirty harry, funk flex, tony touch, dj l, kayslay, etc....are making tons of fuckin money doing mixtapes that have absolutely nothing to do with them. they didnt produce the tracks, they didnt write them, rap on them, or anything to make them have any reason to put out an album of these songs and make money. then they sit there and talk through the whole damn album and say the same shit over and over again. 90% of the songs are either not full, not cd-q, or both. what the hell is the point of this? do any of you actually spend money on this crap?

Well I have yet to buy a mixtape, but some have exclusives and whatnot.I agree i don't like people yelling shit like "Exclusive" in the middle of a real hot beat ya know!I think thats really fuckin stupid when they do it every minute or so as well!Theres my therory!

aight, i do feel u on this one, theres a lot of 'dj's' who put out and host tapes with a couple exclusives and several known songs which are mostly mediocre and spoil the good tracks by screamin their names over and over again

but still i definitely wouldn't say
fuck mixtapes
cause there's the other kind of mixtape too, tapes by dj's who mix, scratch, put an MC's verse over sumbody else's beat, etc etc. For example check out Primo's tapes, he might scratch his name in a couple times but he don't fuckin scream it till u start to hate him or put it in the middle of sum track, also he shows all types of dj'in skills...that's the type of mixtape i luv

I highly doubt they are getting rich off them.  most people download/burn the mixtapes.

yeah but what is an exclusive at that point most likely wont be in a matter of weeks or months. now and then they have something that wont be released anywhere else (like a lot of kayslays streetsweepers retail tape) but 90% of mixtapes is just advance shit...its really kinda stupid.

yeah that stuffs fine...except the blending...i hate that...but actual DJ mixtapes are cool. i like those. but all the mixtape "dj's" above i listed just make me want to download music more.

It's a whole culture in NYC.  It's a competitive world.  Most of these dj's are also radio dj's too.

I cant disagree with you there. They just ruin the songs, especially DJ Clue!

ok the reason they shout on the songs is to protect the artist and make you want to buy their record, its promotion thats all.

most of them are djs for a certain artist when they go on tour so they get money for that too

to protect the artist? so what about DJ Clue's cds where the songs are mainly only on his albums. or KaySlays retail cd which was the same way...or funkmaster flex...most arent protecting anything.

a lot of them big Heavyweight Hitters are radio DJ's so theyre getting money...the mixtapes are supposed to be for promotional use only but im sure theyre getting money off of them not just the bootleggers.  But if you are an up and coming rapper or producer and you get on one of these big name mixtapes that is promotion.  I dont like the tagging but the use of the DJ is helping out the artists.  Even if the DJs are getting the credit, the artists are getting the publicity.

i had 60 minutes of funk vol. IV and it was annoying...had good tracks but flex says his name tons of times:

"60 minutes of fuckin funk, vol 4! funk fliggity in the house baby!"

can't count how many times i heard that shit.

I like mixtapes, its good for the fans, and its also good promotion for the artists.  Whats wrong with that?

promotion is fine...but incomplete songs & shoutouts throughout them by people who have no talent in the first place is pointless and annoying.

Luke, have you honestly bought a mixtape?  If not quit your complaining, and enjoy the exclusive songs we have gotten from them.  and if so, don't buy anymore and just download them.

no im wondering what the point is of sites like mixtapekings & buymixtapes when you can just download them. i dont think people should be making money off of doing nothing but shouting out their name over songs.

oh, but crappers like nelly should be making millions?  or tv shows like the bachelor should be making millions?  people in general are dumbasses, you have to understand that.  they like stupid things, they are easily entertained.  I would rather have gay slay making money than ja rule or 50 cent any day.
