Post by: Don Breezio on March 11, 2004, 01:03:45 AM
what original songs do you think were sampled the best?

i like how kanye sampled chaka khan's "through the fire"

and how eminem sampled edgar winters "dying to live"

while im on the subject of sampling...why does sampling get such a bad rep? seriously a lot of classic tracks have been made from sampling. a lot of people on this board say shit like "fuckin sampling...its so unoriginal"...then you turn right around and listen to I Got 5 On It totally forgetting or not realizing that song was sampled from Club Noveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad"...

i bet 90% of the people on this board who bitch about sampling dont realize that their favorite song(s) are products of sampling.

most ppl dont know about the original when talking about I Got 5 On It...A lot of classic songs have come from samples, but much of the time the originals dont receive credit

i dont have a particular favorite sampled beat

thats my point...people are so quick to hate on songs that use samples but the truth is most likely their favorite song uses a sample.

yo there used to be this website 'sample database' where if you typed in the name of the artist, say '2pac', it would show you every song that he ever sampled....it's original writer, performer, song name, year, and album.....it also had the reverse, where if you typed in something like 'james brown', it would show every artist that used any of his samples and what the song was...i musta got 3 million sampled tracks off there back in the day - anyone know what that site it?

There's no way I could pick a favorite.  But I think Kanye is dope when it comes to sampling.

"Uptown Top Rankin" by Mastercuts was pretty good in that Sean Paul Marc Ronson Joint.

"Tryin' to Make a fool of me" in Juelz Santana's "Okay Okay" was hella tight also.
