Title: Shady & Roc-a-fella wants Pharoahe Monch // Common NOT on ROC
Post by: Jome on March 11, 2004, 08:39:30 PM
PHAROAHE OF THE ARMY

Seems as if Pharaohe Monch is a very popular man these days, as he is being courted by a few labels, including Kanye West's Good Music imprint. It's rumored that one particular label, Shady Records, has already reached out to Monche to express their interest (Monch was originally supposed to lend a hook on D12's Devil's Night LP), but at this point, Monche is still in contractual limbo with Rawkus and that is the only obstacle at this point preventing him from seeking greener pastures. We have been told that Monche's new material is amazing, but until he is able to sort things out with Rawkus, were not going to hear it anytime soon. If Monche is able to secure a new deal with Shady, Kanye or any other major label, expect it to signal a direct shift in his sound (one that he is apparently embracing), as his LP's will be more commercial orientated; but Monche has proven himself capable of finding the grey area that it takes to be a successful commercial artist and still deliver cohesive LP's (peep "Simon Says"). - Matt Conaway

COMMON SIGNS TO THE ROC (NOT).

The rumors of Common going to Roc-A-Fella have spun out of control. We are guessing this originated from the rumor that Kanye West was TRYING to get Common to join his Very Good Music imprint, which is rumored to be a joint venture between Interscope and Roc-A-Fella. However, this is still all speculation. After the story transformed into "Common has signed to Roc-A-Fella", which was apparently heard on Chicago radio (touted by some as being said by Kanye himself), a few phone calls set the record straight. I got a "hell no" from Common, which followed with "They fam, but I am still a signed artist to Geffen. I just can't leave while under contract". So there it is folks, in black and lyrical. Common is on Geffen. ?uestlove added "Kanye did three joints (for the new Common album), we still did the rest". Common's BE (Basement Evolution) is about halfway done at press time. - Pizzo
