Title: The Westcoast in 2004 needs.....?
Post by: Cordy on March 22, 2004, 07:48:49 AM
WSCG album was ok, but it didnt ressurect the west. Who can? I think we have 3 chances:

Xzibit
Dr Dre
Snoop Dogg

Dre can put an artist out, he did it on every album, Snoop Dogg and Eminem.... both were lifted to new heights with Dre's releases. Will he do it with The Game? He may.... Crooked I if his album was produced by Kanye West

The combination of WSC, Knoc and the 213 release will put the west back in the spotlight for the next year and then guys like Dre, Xzibit and Game will keep pushing it to the next level.

The Game (I think he'll kick in the door for the West Coast. Once he blew up, it'll be a chance for other artists to be in the spot-light too).

IV Life Records
Knoc'Turn-Al
Xzibit

i think the industry is scared of a rapper like game comin up

knoc will do well.. but not on some "chronic 3" shit like he claiming

i'm in two minds on kurupt, he's either gonna flop real bad, or blow up.

iv life are building, so are strong arm steady.

The Game has talent, but no radio will show love to someone with his style. He will blow up as big as Joe Buddens, Memphis Bleek etc.

213? possible.

Dr. Dre - Whenever he drops an album the West gets back in the spotlight (The Chronic, 2001).

The Game - A lot of hype surrounding him compared to any other West Coast act. If Dre hooks him up with a great single then I can see him doing multi-platinum.

Snoop, Xzibit drop albums occasionally but never resurrect anything.

Knoc is too unorthodox to blow up.

Crooked I will drop a good album but will be overlooked by the mainstream, probably the same with Kurupt.

I doubt that Knoc will seltt well. I bet SAS will stay underground, eben though Xzibit is with them, but if Xzibit will drop a solo record,it will most likly go platinum again. Snoop had a great year, so I guess 213 will sell pretty good. 213 will be the westcoast record of 2004, along with a GAME album, but I doubt Game will be released this year. 3 G-Unit albums in one summer? C'mon...

What the west really needs is THE MAD BOOTLEGGER!

dude, you guys don't understand.  the west has plenty of talent, they have had it for years.  they barely get any radio or video play, and they get the shaft from most magazines.  It doesn't matter how good of a rapper you are, it is the promotion.  Dr. Dre and Snoop dogg will get love and promotion, that is because their labels know that they will sell without a doubt.  Any other rapper and the label is taking a big risk.  Look how many great westcoast albums have flopped.  Labels are scared of that.  The record labels have one thing in mind: Making money.  They could care less who they make it off.

The west does not need any rapper, they have plenty of them.  The west needs someone or multiple people with millions of dollars to invest into the westcoast rap scene.  How the fuck are people gonna wanna go out and get Knocturnal if they only heard him on the radio like twice, never seen a video, and can't even find his album in stores?  You really think crooked I is gonna blow up?  c'mon be realistic.  first off I think crooked I is easily one of the best rappers in the game.  but now he is going independent.  I personally like that better, because I think he will make the music that he thinks is good, and not the music that his boss thinks is good.  but realistically, you have probably a 5% max chance of blowing up if you are independent.  The music industry has fucked the westcoast rap scene, and that is all there is to it.  people are dumb, and they follow and like trends.  If crooked I got the amount of radio and tv play as someone like jay z, 50 cent, snoop, he would blow up, I gaurantee it.  and once he is all over the radio and tv, then people will recognize him, which will lead to his songs being played in the club.  The only way that he can get all this radio and tv play is if he pays the money.  You think crook has that much money?  fuck no he doesn't, he needs at the very minimum a million dollars, and even that won't take him far.  For the moment, and in my eyes, the west is not gonna go anywhere for a few years.  The majority of people who buy music do not give a fuck about lyrics, meaning in a song, skill, or the thought brought out in a song.  they like something with a simple beat that you can bob your head to (see the people even on this forum who luv the beat for Britney's Toxic), a catchy chorus, and really that is it.  Why do you think rappers like Spice 1, jayo felony, mc ren, etc are not in any hurry to put out an album?  cause they know no matter how good their shit is, its not what the dumbass people who buy music will like.  That is some real fuckin talk right there, take it for what its worth.

^^^ yea...

the east coast is the foundation of commercial rap and will remain that way ... there will be specific west coast artists who will achieve some sort of recognition, but they will NOT blow up.

west coast is underground but in my opinion it's better that way.  at least the west coast stays true cuz when you get all commercial like that you'll turn into a fake n all that glitter makes u BLIND n JADED.

If Terrorist Threats didn't do shit, then nothin' will. Not even a year with a Dre, Xzibit, and 213 album would get us where we need to be.

umm actually he's gonna BLOW up...selling at least 1 million....gonna be bigger then budden or bleek of course...c'mon man...the difference between him and them is that he's under DR.DRE and he's with the G-UNIT...so hes gonna sell records regardless...

Strong Arm Steady, Kurupt, Xzibit, IV Life. These cats won't do much for the West, just yet. We're still stuck in Dre and Snoop's shadow. The only album that will do good out here is The Game's, soley based on his affiliation and image. WSC, Knoc and others just aren't doing it.
