Title: Dre on Rakim
Post by: gdjone on April 05, 2004, 11:53:13 AM
Dre talks about the Rakim situation in new XXL cover story - 31.01.2004
Dr. Dre about Rakim:
''It's pretty much a person's work ethic, you know what I'm saying? If you take one step towards me I'ma take two towards you. Nobody's gonna get in that studio and work harder than me - at least that's my attitude. If you come in there and you're tryna do that you're gonna get an album done. If I feel like you're not giving 100 percent, I'ma back off of it and it's as simple as that. And that's not to take anything away from Rakim, because I'm still gonna work with Rakim - wherever he goes with his record." ~

What do yall think....

Sounds to me like Dre's trying to give the appearance of being  diplomatic while at the same time putting the blame on Rakim ;)

Who cares anyway? Whatever either of them says now just sounds like excuses for the fans. It was a wasted opportunity, that's the end of it.

sounds like he's saying rakim didn't put the work in, at least not up to dre's standards.

I think dre's work ethic blows, dude only drops once every 10 years and honestly most of the beats he drops for people outside of aftermath lately aint worth a shit. its like when people ask dre for a beat he just cranks out some of his run of the mill shit and either take it or leave it. rakim said that dre wanted him to "bring the guns out and kill everything" and rakim is a peacefull dude with upbringings in the 5 percent nation of islam. and dre bieng the control freak that he is was'nt having that. I love dre. his track record speaks for itself but lately he's been shitting on his fans.

I m talking about post 86 rakim, maybe dude did used to be a stickup kid but everybody changes. shit if nas (Rakims prodege) can contridict himself on everyother track I dont see that line damaging rakims credibility at all. but for the most part rakim has been a peaceful dude, using violence only for story telling purposes

im still pissed that this didnt come to fruition...but to be honest if Rakim gets to release an album the way he wants it to sound then im happy with that. and if dre still throws a few tracks his way, i'll be happy with that too.

Well Rakim is notorious for missing and being late to studio sessions when recording each of his two previous solo albums so it wouldn't suprise me. Having said that I don't think Dre can possibly be in any position to question the lazyness of anyone else judging by his recent record.

conway, knocc but not to many. I think alot of times he feels obligated to give up a track because if he doesnt rappers will bitch, and then he'll look like an asshole in the magazines and shit. watch him give rakim some bullshit to rhyme on.

Nope, he didn't produce for Conway, that was BS, and the Knoc beat is from around 2001 time or earlier..

Take a look at the inhouse production, Dre's beats for 50, G-Unit and Obie has been sick.
Somehow, everybody expects another Chronic or 2001 every time Dre drops a beat, he can't change the game with every beat he drops..

He didn't do that Conway beat, even though it's sick anyways, and IMO trac 11 on "The Way I Am" is fire. Not to mention the bangers he did for "Cheers" and "Beg For Mercy".

I agree there were alot of dope shits on 50 and g unit, but I disagree about obie. I like obie but I expected alot more from dre. I think your going to easy on dre. he knew obie wasnt gonna do 50 cent numbers so he gave him subpar beats. listen to shit hits the fan and the set up , both tracks are for the most part bland. what ever happened to them fools that was dissin dre in the source in the feb. issue with eminem on the cover? the ones talkin bout dre still be jackin beats and shit.

I was never feelin' the beat for "The Setup". One of the worse Dre beats ever IMO.

I agree the set up was garbage. sounds like it took 2-3  tracks to make that beat. any way saomeone should start a poll concerning the worst beats ever made by dre.
