Quik by far, the only other one who can come close on that list is Pac, but Quik's got the musical talent cuz he produces.

If you pick anyone besides Marvin Gaye, I don't know what to tell you. In the realm of hip hop, then you'd pick DJ Quik for the music and 2pac for the lyrics obviously, but come on, Marvin Gaye may be, well shit, he is the best recording artist ever. Music that people like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, the Isley Brothers, Al Green etc made you'll never hear music like that again. What do you think hip hop is based on anyway? That is the best music ever recorded period.

I'm not trying to bitch, but there's no such thing as "the best artist/musician" because everyone has their own personal favorites.
Well anyway, these artists definitely deserve some respect in my opinion:

Prince
Marvin Gaye
Madonna
Quincy Jones
Barry White
Metallica
...

^^^^You see where I'm going to: every artist who made a name for themselves in the industry by being good at their craft.

Marvin Gaye's vocal and arranging abilities were so strong he was well ahead of any of the others on the list.

It's hard 2 compare Marvin Gaye and Quik....thas almost like whos better, Wayne Gretzky or Jordan? They did completely different shit. Marvin Gaye has made muuuch more of a greater impact than Quik as far as music, but I wouldn't call him the most talented of his time and genre. As far as Quik, personally I think he might be the most musically sound producer in rap history, above Dre Premier and anybody else, as far as straight up musical structure, changes, and all else that isn't appreciated by the average rap minded ear.

theres too much of a generation gap between these artists. There is no intellegent way to compare 2pac to stevie wonder. I love both of thier music alot and it almost feels disrespectful to compare them to each other. this is like comparing the dogg pound to the beatles or better yet dr.dre to bethoven or some shit. definently not one of the better polls on this forum...
