many are speculating that this translates into a new home console for SEGA
others think it means the Merger with Sammy has gone through.....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
RUMOR #1: At E3, Sega will announce it is getting back into the console business.
Source: An e-mail blast inviting press to Sega's "mystery event" at E3.
The official story: "Sega cannot comment on rumors relating to its exclusive press event on day one of E3. Sega remains excited about its powerful lineup of yet-to-be-announced titles."--Sega spokesperson.
What we heard: Ever since Dreamcast production ceased in 2001, the console's diehard fans have held out hope that it would rise from the ashes. This week, hope came in the form of a one-paragraph press invitation to Sega's E3 presentation. "Learn about SEGA's 2004 lineup and hear BIG news you'd NEVER guess," read the invite, which promised "explosive news--something even YOU won't be able to guess!" (Emphasis in the original.) Within minutes, Sega loyalists were churning out messianic predictions of a new and improved Dreamcast. "Financially revitalized, finally debt-free, Sega now firmly believes it has what it takes to rule the roost," read one. But before you break out the straightjackets, consider this: Amusement-machine giant Sammy is Sega's majority stockholder, and its president, Hajime Satomi, is Sega's chairman. This year, Sammy's new Atomiswave arcade platform will replace the veteran NeoGeo format. The NeoGeo also came in a home console version, which had a customer base fanatical enough to shell out hundreds of dollars per game--in other words, a proven (if small) market. The Atomiswave's hardware is even more compact than the NeoGeo's. Sammy has announced that Sega will focus on developing games for the Atomiswave. Could Sega's big announcement be a new, Sega-branded home console based on the Atomiswave? It could be, but it would be sort of redundant, because the Atomiswave is already based on Dreamcast hardware.
Bogus or not bogus?: Although it's an intriguing theory, it's probably bogus. Note to Sega: Kudos for making one publicity e-mail go a long way

I'll bet money it won't be a new console. It may be something like a Sonic for the arcades or some major game announcement, but they won't be in the console buisness anytime soon.
-
yeah i think they still have a bitter taste in thier mouth from the dreamcast.... i'm thinking either it's some revolutionary new game...or a big cross over game
-
the neo-geo suggestion and the arcade link makes me think they may be going in that direction..
how long till e3?

a few weeks at most....i think a week in a half though....alot of news is surfacing

porno...it has to be porno

THe day the Sega stppoed the Dreamcast was the day I gave up on video games. ( not just because the Dreamcast was gone, but because the games have lost their souls). I really haven'tt played any games since Shen Mue. A new Sega system would definately get me interested. But a Sega porno, that would be amazing.

You mean like a home system that plays arcade games? I don't think that would work anymore... the reason the Neo Geo worked was because it was a high end system, and was capable of reproducing arcade graphics which the other home systems weren't. As of now, though, any home system can easily reproduce arcade style graphics, so a home arcade system would be obsolete.

plus arcades are pretty much a thing of the past except for in japan
-
Definitely not a new console...
Sega has forever stepped out of that aspect of the game industry. Now they make games.
Honestly, I can't think of anything "explosive" that Sega can put out. Sonic? Not an "explosive" character anymore...look at Sonic Heroes.
Unless they announce that they're moving to the Moon, I can't think of anything explosive from Sega. We'll all have to wait and see...

Mario vs. SONIC!!!!!!!!
(crossin Fingers) :o
-
E3 Starts next tuesday...
I dunno what Sega has planned...
-
Speaking of E3, there should be new info on Half-Life 2 there too... 8)
Can't really think of anything else "explosive" Sega could do except introduce a new console, but that seems very unlikely. Guess we gotta wait & see.
Mario vs. SONIC!!!!!!!!
What kinda game would that be though? Mario pops shrooms while Sonic runs around him in circles I guess...

The real story out of E3 is going to be Nintendo's unveiling of it's mysterious "Nintendo DS". Some say it's going to be called the "Nintendo Nitro". It's a handheld system that they claim they are going to run concurrent with the Gameboy Advance, and isn't the successor to the gameboy. It has 2 screens, each a little bigger than the Gameboy Advance SP's, and one is rumoured to be a touchscreen. THAT'S what everybody's wondering about. I hope Nintendo doesn't drop the ball, it sounds like it could be a revolutionary new system. EA Sports has already announced they're working on games for it, as well as continuing to support the GB Advance, so it's interesting at least.

Everybody? I never heard of it. :P
Don't mean bitch or whine or diss or be negative in any way, but what is it with you and Nintendo? I gotta say that if you're on anybody's nuts, it's them. No disrespect, just saying.

Who the fuck are you? Don't worry about me and what I think, maybe I've got stock with the company, what the fuck's it matter? I'm just saying, look around, that's the big story out of E3.

really hasn't seen any new news coverage on that since that deal with EA was announced. don't really think many people are anticipating it. most people are just looking for the next big game, not the next money draining demi-console

We'll see, won't we
