Title: Van Helsing
Post by: Don Breezio on May 07, 2004, 03:15:05 AM
not gonna type a long review cuz i went to the first showing of this at midnight and its now 3:13 am...and im tired...but this was a decent movie...it won't live up to the hype of it but its worth seeing...a bit cheesy (as far as the acting) but the effects were good and they thought out the story *pretty* well...there were a few holes...i would probably give this movie an 8/10 just because cheesy or not it was still a very entertaining movie and well done. i will more than likely be buying this when it comes out.

I saw it.  Spoiler.

I'm glad, most of all, that they finally got Frankenstein's Monster right.  They always make him some big dumbass trying to kill people, but in the book he was an intelligent gentle giant.

Well I watched it last night...kinda disappointed at the story line and how it was played out. I give Van Helsing 3.5/5 stars.

Special effects saved this movie.

I was bout to go see it, but there was so many shitty reviews for this movie..so i didnt go...i noticed that its the same director that made the mummy series...is this movie at least good as the mummy? i liked that movie...

^^ yeah its as good as the mummy

it was very cheesy in some parts...but i dont think it made it a bad movie at all...it was entertaining...but @ kain670...how were you dissapointed in the way the story played out? it really wasnt very predictable...i mean nobody thought she'd die, and i didnt expect everything to be all tied together w/ clues and stuff and secret paintings and what not....i liked the way they played out the story.

SPOILERS

Ok so who/what was Van Helsing? reborn to kill Dracula again?

Who orphaned Van Helsing in Vatican City with the ring/missing piece of painting for the door?

This movie could have been done without that main chick Kate whatever...her meaningless scenes with the female vampires went for about 30 minutes total just plain stupid/booring.

The whole Dracula baby/electricity bring my offspring to life was crap.

Acting wasn't that cheesy...thats how Dracula movies are.

Even the special effects couldn't save this for me. My overwhelming feeling when watching it was that I was seeing a move made for small children... A real big let down.

I thought the film was really bad, probably like a 4/10. The story was so-so, the acting was really cheesy, there were a lot of pointless scenes, I just didn't really care what happened to any of the characters, so all the battles were plain boring to me as well. Obviously just not my type of film.

just saw this movie last night.... and my opinion is it's garbage... i give it a D... they take three horror icons and stick them in a PG-13 setting...and if that's not bad enough, every single "normal" person in this movie (that should be prey) looked like they came out of the Spiderman 2 trailer before the movie. not for even one second did i feel dread or nervous for these characters because they all had superhuman agility and duribility. the plot was garbage, like the poster above said....ooooh vampire baby's that grow out of egg sacs that need electricity to live...makes alot of sense.....and as soon as dracula called van helsing gabriel, i knew he was the angel gabriel...special effects were unrealistic and shitty, for people that said the special effects were good.....would you be happy with LOTR or matrix if they had these effects? i know i wouldn't

other parts of the movie didn't make any sense, one is near the beginning where the bitches brother is in the tree and the werewolf is chasing the girl... somehow he gets down from the tree, outruns a charging wereworf in time to push his sister to safety.....now these are the same werewolves that can outrun a wagon drawn by 46 horses...

i'm glad i went to the drive in to see this....$7 and we got to see van helsing and dawn of the dead....at least DOTD was worth the $7
