Just got home from seeing this - thought it was very very cool
action scenes were great, could of had better choreographey- it was kinda of a weird use of blood and felt like they were holding back on going all out
plot wise and dialouge was pretty good - strong plot to keep the movie and the character development going. nice use of dialouge too.
the music for the movie was well used, editing was great, some of the shots are particularly memorable
acting was great, especially Peter O'Toole and Eric Bana is the highlight of the whole movie
if it gets nominated for anything at the oscars id like to see Eric Bana nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Art Design
overall 4/5 - it coulda been a 5/5 but it felt like it was holding back a little in the action and wasnt the best decision to cast Brad Pitt despite he is a good actor, he didnt suit the role
-
I'm gonna go see it, I didn't realize it was out yet (guess i'm slipping). I used to see every movie that came out (EVERY movie that came out) then I stopped seeing all the bullshit movies to save money. The only movies coming out soon that I can think of that I'm going to pay for are 1. Troy, and 2. Harry Potter.
-
i dont think its out in america yet - movies in australia get released on thursdays and from what i understand on fridays in america - so its out tomorrow
-
I'll wait for the DVD to come out...I already know the story :P

whats the movie even about?
-
whats the movie even about?
is about this guy called Troy.
-
Comes out tomarrow for me...
The movie is about how Paris steals Helen, and the king of Sparta (along w/ his brother's nation) wages a full-scale war on Troy. Pitt is Achilles, the greatest warrior of his time, who leads the Spartan Army.
I really wanna see it.

Dammit, I thought Pitt was Odysseus.
-
Well, I saw it. Good movie. My brother and I were talking though... what kind of bitch dies from getting shot in the FOOT.
Anyways. I digress.
I liked the guy they got to play Odysseus, but I'll bet they won't make a new Odyssey with him. The poor girl they got to play Helen must have a lot of pressure on her, she's now "The face that launched a thousand ships". She was pretty, I thought it might be Natalie Portman with her hair dyed blonde but it's some german chick. Ironically, they had Paris played by Orlando Bloom who's probably prettier than Helen. He always looked like a girl to me in the Lord of the Rings movies.
Brad Pitt did a good job in the movie. They choreographed his nearly super-human fight scenes well, that scene where he threw the spear was amazing.. the way he moves and fought was very well done.
The best line of the movie was
"Tonight you'll have no eyes, no ears, no mouth to speak with... You'll wonder the underworld forever, and people will whisper 'there is Hector, the fool who Thought he killed Achilles"
-
Sounds like the movie was released worldwide @ the same time. It has juss come out over here recently. It received 2stars in a weekend paper review.
-
wasnt the best decision to cast Brad Pitt despite he is a good actor, he didnt suit the role
wtf?! pitt was awesome... couldnt think of an actor who woulda coulda been better for this job
lol@trauma
in the saga by Homer he gets it in his Achilles' heel. It *has* to be like that, besides he doesnt die of it, he dies of the like 6 arrows he'll be shot with afterwards.
for the movie; it was better than I expected after the homie told me it sucks a little. pretty nice to watch once, but nothin that makes you think about/entertains you somehow after you watched it.

LOL I was laughing at that too, surly everyone has heard about "Achillies heel", havn't they?

I just saw this movies yesterday, and it was fuckin AWESOME!! Pitt did a very good job as Achilles, and Eric Bana was a good Hector. Helen was hot as hell (I'd start a war to get her pussy, lol), and Paris was played well by Bloom.
The fight scenes were amazing, and they looked realistic enough.
SPOLIERS!!!
I thought the fight scene at the end, Hector vs Achilles, was too quick. Achilles basically kicked the shit out of him...and I thought it was pretty funny when Achilles dragged Hector's body away in front of all of Troy. I love the one jumping move Achilles does...

noone... nobody can step up against achilles in a 1on1 fight. achilles only died cause he didnt know paris was there and was shot out of the blue.
-
Yes, I've heard of the story of Achille's heel, I know all about how he was dipped in the river styx by his heel as a child and therefore was only vulnerable in his heel, but again, I ask...
What kind of BITCH dies from a heel wound? If *I was as talented as Achilles, you could cut my fuckin' heel off, and I'd still whip everybody's ass in the entire city. Not Achilles, though. 1 shot to the heel, and he's all fucked up, and they shoot him to death with arrows. Shiiiiiit.

yeah but hector still stands longer against Achilles then anyone else Achilles fights
-
That move where Achilles would stab their shield, was cool as shit. He did it one time and almost knocked Hector to the ground, with only the tip of his sword. It's a shame they didn't show more fight scenes. Apparently Pitt wanted more fighting and less dialouge, he thought that fit Achilles' character better, but they had to make compromises. The death scene was ridiculous. He talks to the girl for about 10 minutes, then dies. What the fuck.
-
^^ yeah that was dope...this was an awesome movie
lmao @ trauma not understanding achilles heel...you can say all you want about him being a bitch but i think if you got an arrow through your achilles tendon you'd probably be on the ground in shock bud lol.
i think brad pitt played achilles perfectly...i think he was the best guy for the part. helen...mmmm...so hot....when paris crawled on the ground to hector after getting his leg sliced...that was classic.

im just wondering...umm...you do know that the plot of this was a book called "The Iliad" that was written hundereds of years ago right? i mean...saying the plot was "pretty good"...thats something you say about scarface....not about the fall of troy

im sorry - yes i know about the work by Homer but Troy is not written by Homer, its a film - how else should have i described the plot in a film review?
and when i say Troy is not written by Homer i do of course mean the screenplay of the film

Homer wrote the most famous stuff of old, ancient greek literature. His most famous book is "iliad". In this book, the story from the movie troy is only a rather small, yet the most famous part. Though, the book is not exactly like the plot of this new movie, since it was hollywoodized and americanized. Nevertheless, the whole idea comes from a person that lived a long ass time ago.

I plan on seeing this movie next friday or the one after .
My parents watched it yesterday , apparently my dad didn't fall asleep like he usually had in every other movie he's watched with my mom , so that should be a good sign ... then again the last 2 movies he's watched are Titanic and Evita ..... poor guy

Give a fool just a lilllll bit of information, and you end up with the last few posts on this thread.

The movie was stupid. Brad Pitt was not a good greek. Blonde hair and Blue eyes.. And whats up with all the fake english accents playing greek characters. And Achilles was Immortal. He did not die from the arrows to his body he died from the heel shot, that is the story. Trauma already said it about him being dipped in the river and the heel was the only part that didnt get wet. And the boats were stupid as hell. I would have to say there was a bit too many for being almost 4000 years ago. I would give the movie a 2/5.

lol moron, it's a hollywood movie. plus it's a saga, dont expect the number of boats to be realistic. in the movie Achilles wasnt immortal. He said it himself.
-
Pitt w/Blonde hair is accurate, Achilles was half god, and many of the Gods have blonde hair. Notice Helen, who was also half god, also had blonde hair.
-
still thought the movie was stupid.
-
Well, maybe they think you're stupid for not knowing Gods have blonde hair. Maybe you're both wrong.
-
still thought the movie was stupid.
guess youre one of those guys who think a movie is stupid when they dont change their life/philosophies after seeing it/have to think the entire movie long and even after to get the whole plot. lol. not every movie is great as fight club or memento, calling all these movies stupid takes it a little too far. if you think like that then I assume movies in general just arent your thang.
-
achilles was not a god last time i checked, so the blonde hair blue eyes didnt strike me as being the best way to portray him.
-
^ You should pay more attention the next time I talk, you might learn something. Achilles wasn't a god. He's half god. Helen wasn't a goddess, she's half goddess. I.E., one of both of their parents were immortal. So they both have blonde hair, as descendants of Gods. It's *NOT that hard of a concept to grasp, it's actually simple genetic theory a kid knows.
Daddy. Why are my eyes blue. Because your mom's are. O.K. I understand that daddy. Get with the program.
