I've searched the Web but all I keep seeing is information about the musical. People on this board talk about Sunset several times and I'm really curious to see how it looks like.
Also...pics from Crenshaw Boulevard and Mainstreet (where IV Life is from) would be appreciated.
It's just outta curiosity 8)

you cant really get a full picture of sunset boulevard because it extends all the way from downtown towards the rich areas like beverly hills or bel aire(fresh prince). but when most people talk about sunset, they are referring to a short 2 mile strip, where the hollywood stars frequently go to for the hottest bars and clubs. this is the hottest spot in california hands down. on weekend nights, you can find thousands of people walkin around 2am, people are flossin their new rides, the flyest chicks be on the stroll.. its just crazy.. its the epitome of california lifestyle, definitely my favorite place of california. the strip is kinda tucked away in the hollywood hills, so all the parking lots that are located off the strip have incredible views of the los angeles city.. this is the only place i would get into traffic on purpose, on weekend nights, there is bumper to bumper traffic, and often times it takes about an hour to get through the 2 mile strip, i was ridin next to dj quik's homie Amir one time on sunset.

this should pretty much cover everything you would need to know about it.. they give you a lot of interesting facts about the clubs/bars if you click on the underlined ones.. one of the most interesting ones is the johnny depp owned viper club, which phoenix river died of a drug overdose over 10 years ago..

hrm.. once again its pretty hard to find pictures.. because a camera cant really fit a 2 mile strip into the lens. so each picture can only give you a small part of the strip at each time, which doesnt really represent it properly..

this is a webcam that lets you see live footage from sunset blvd. this doesnt look like the actual strip part though....

I live right off Crenshaw, in like 30 seconds drivin distance, and I am always drivin there to get wherever I gotta go....it ain't anything like people talk as far as bein violent. Most of the time, it isn't even gangbangers out just hangin on it waitin to bang on people unless you just get unlucky. But Sundays are gettin back to crackin like 96. Night time Saturdays used to be crackin on the Shaw but people were gettin jacked. But Crenshaw is just a main street through South Central and it's rarely any violence on the actual street...now some of the side streets hell yeah, but the cops are always out on the main street.
As far as Main St. it is just a regular street, not really a Major major street like Crenshaw Sunset Western Normandie etc. etc. but it isn't any "hot spots" or anywhere on Main St. that is really like a big attraction or anything that people in L.A. can really point out. They are from Main St. crips which is the crip gang that is located or certain parts of Main St in South Central. So seein pictures of this probably wouldn't do anything but show you regular South Central.
But yeah, Sunset is hot for this two mile part in Hollywood..and suprisingly, gangbangers are ALWAYS deep on there Saturday nights, especially since All Star weekend.

I feel you. Bad thing about California is that the best/biggest cities are all far as hell, especially like L.A. to San Fran or Oakland, or even Daygo to L.A. And it's all spread out so it's hard to really take a "tour" of California without flyin city to city, because you gonna have to drive thru 7 hours of nothin to get from L.A. to the bay. But I think I'll take a real trip to the Bay maybe when I graduate, and I'm 21, so I can enjoy it all.

true, but u can actually walk around in the SC without havin to fear gettin jacked all the time...u shouldn't try to walk the side streets alone at night, but i know places in other countries that are worse. and alot of gang violence don't affect people who are not in gangs

i mean, its not super safe area or nothin, but i mean during the day time you shouldnt have that much to worry about, as long as you keep your business to yourself, and aint doin nothin stupid..
nihgt time might be a different story.. especiallly during the summer.

yeah...at night u gotta avoid side streets and maybe u shouldn't walk around iced up or start shit or sumthin...but really, go to any large city in southern europe and it's basically the same, except u ain't got crips & bloods

Yeah basically..and especially if you are just drivin, you don't have much to worry about unless you stop somewhere and you are too flashy and look like you could get jacked easy. But I'll be strait up, a lot of the talk about South Central isn't really overexaggerated, but it definitely is not like it was from 85-92, and like you see in all the movies. But the rappers do all they can to keep the same image for L.A.
To me, even the hardest hoods that are near Crenshaw usually look relatively nice, aside from some spots in Mid City and the Jungles...but even some spots in Rollin 60s hood look nice, and a lot of spots in Inglewood aside from the bottoms don't look too bad. Doesn't mean that shit doesn't go down...but just to an outsider, if they drove through and didn't see anybody out bangin or whatever, they'd be like "this is really the hood?"

i know east oakland is known for random killings and called the killing fields and prolly much worse than the Crenshaw area but like u said, there's no mainstream acts keepin that image alive

As an example, where my moms is from, Honduras, 18St and Marasalvatrucha are DEEP. Most of their members down there are ex-cons from here who ended up getting deported back. Not only do they have to worry about each other, but they gotta worry about the cops killin' on sight. About 4 days ago, a Prison caught on fire. 102 prisoners died. It's being speculated the Government set that up. It's ruthless out there. They'll slice you for some change. What's poor here in L.A., is actually living good down there. There's no middle class. You're either rich or poor. Hell, bums out here live better than the bums out there. Shit!
So, yea, don't be afraid of Crenshaw etc. Snoop and the rest of these guys just tell stories. Don't get it twisted though, you can get done up if you act stupid, but that's anywhere.

Yeah...that is how it is. But if you think about it, it does make sense.
What I thought about was this....true L.A. has crime and gangbangin was wild as fuck and still is out there, but the midwest gangs, although different, are just as lethal. BUT....you know why L.A. gets the "credit" for bein so hard, and bein so gangbanged out and violent? What else is in L.A.? HOLLYWOOD. Meaning that since Hollywood is where most movies are produced, bein that this shit happens right near Hollywood, it's pretty obvious why crips and bloods and L.A. had so many movies compared to Detroit or Chicago where shit is as wild, or wilder. People from Chitown and Down south get at me like "Man, Friday is supposed to be filmed in the hood? That neighborhood look nice!" and it is the truth. Plus gangsta rap started in L.A., so I mean what do you expect.

Yeah...well Imperial Courts is different, that is in Watts, about 20-25 minutes from the Jungles. The Jungles is that set of projects/apartments that when Denzel went in, it was a griiip of bloods all outside, and he went inside somebody's apartment. They had real bloods out there for that scene, which is very interesting to me. Almost a contradiction...if you can get gangbangers to cooperate in a movie scene, help em out in some kind of positive way as well instead of just glorifying their negativity.

^^^^Well, I watched Training Day with the commentary track, and the director said he was actually hoping that the figurants (the Bloods and the little kids who were on the set) would be inspired to also do something with movies or acting. So maybe it wasn't so bad at all...
Still...like you said, it's crazy to see those real Bloods, not just some actors they hired.
Btw...I saw Colors (DVD) in a store the other day, but I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if it's really worth the money. Have you seen it?

yeah. And Atlanta, Georgia e.g., the whole city including all areas got a higher crime rate than Compton.
I think the worst places in the world are south american slums/favelas. Crenshaw looks like hick ass suburbia compared to a brazilian favela...that's the places where ure gonna get killed randomly by a 9 year old kid for small change or ur kidneys

Personally, I HATE Colors. Not only because of the gang scenes, but because of the Nationwide effect it had on young kids thinkin gangbangin was "cool." What I hate is how they show the gangs shootin each other up, but don't really give you any kind of background, and at the end, nothing really happens. It's like the story line tries to act as if the gangs themselves aren't a problem. They have a scene with adults in a Church talkin about stoppin gangs, but other than that, it isn't anywhere as deep as somethin like Menace II Society. Menace isn't a positive movie at all, but it does let you see why a lot of kids start bangin, and how they might appear to be hard on the outside but they all want a way out of it, but they are trapped. Colors will just show some crips drivin by shootin up some bloods, and not say why they are shootin, or anything else. So fuck that movie.
