Seriously, ain't nothing released that can touch this, West, East, South, Midwest.
This cat been taking over the game and he deserves it, he brought MUSIC back into mainstream HipHop, hes original. AND his rapping is good too, he might not be the most lyrical and metaphorical speaking cat, but he has a message and delivers that well.
I know we've had tons of Kanye thread lately but I just wanted to make another one :P ;D
-
haha.. yeah i've pretty much bumped it to death now :)
-
To each his own but, "he might be the most lyrical and metaphorical speaking cat"? You must have not heard alot of decent music, EVER. Kanye's flow is total garbage, he needs to stick to producing and even the sped up samples is getting old.
-
Yup I agree, by far the best album of 2004. And I agree, he brought MUSIC back, and came with something original and fresh, and I like the sound of it. not just the same ole, same ole thing. Some ppl dont like his rapping style, but I think he's pretty good at it and has progressed a lot
-

I think he wanted to say "he might NOT be the most lyrical and metaphorical speaking cat, but...."
makes more sense dude
and everyone knows that he doesnt have a flow like a Crooked I but he's decent

oh shit LOL i forgot the NOT i meant he might NOT be haha

like ive said before. he aint that great with his lyrics, but the music and the simplicity of the lyrics bring back a sense of nostalgia of old hip hop music which was more positive and simple. and agree best album of 2004 so far. i like how he is able to relate to all levels of rap/hiphop... hes got talib and mos def and common(3 of the best in the game).. and then hes got people like Jay Z, twista and Ludacris.... and man he knows what the fuck is up..going to Bosko! minus breathe in breathe out, i liked every song on this album. Him and Lil jon pretty much have the game on lock right now. and thats why they have the lil jon workout plan. is that shit even released yet?

I had the potential to be album of the year but the CD has like 8 skippers outta 20 tracks. The other 12 tracks are great but there is a lot of bullshit on there. I still think that Royce Da 5'9" has the best album this year.

well, i'd definitely agree on best...uhm, let's call it 'mainstream' album of 2004. There were a few others I really luved, but College Dropout was one of the best fa sure. Like Nima and a couple others said, he might not be a lyricist the calibre of Nas or Crooked I, but his lyrics are well delivered and he got an own, unique style lyrically which is more important than bein able to kick doubles and shit IMO. And production-wise he's a genius and most songs on his album are proof of that
-
strong disagree. kanye is as overrated as it can get.
-
Death Is Certain >>> College Dropout
-
It's the best of 04, but that ain't sayin' much.
-
The album is whack. Some of the beats are nice but his lyrics and chorus's are just horrible. Twista's album is the best album from this year.
peace
-
This is the only album I've bought this year.
-
^^^^^^^same here......shits hot......he may not have a great flow....but he gets his fuckin message across.....i love that shit...

my verdicts still out i havn't heard any actual released album that i have been taken back from or even bumped alot, well actually i have hi-c's album. i hope the second half of the year is a bit more fruitfull
-
DOPE ALBUM!
-
it took me a while to get into this album, there are still parts i dont feel.. but at first i didnt feel the concept (esp. with all the skits) and didnt feel the general vibe, thought it was too ermm 'fluffy' i guess... but i got into it..
i'll only play these tracks if i'm in the car... (ultra fussy when driving.. lol)
All Falls Down, Spaceship (sometimes), Jesus Walks, Never Let Me Down, Slow Jamz, Through The Wire and Last Call.
-
His next album gonna be called "Late Registration" right?
Kanye West is a dumbfuck...he must be really upset he couldn't graduate ::)
Whats next "Course Forgiveness" or "Finals Week" ?

Only classic joint to drop this year so far.............
-
I love this album jus like seer it took a while for me to fully enjoy it and I bump more or elss the same joints:
All Falls Down, Spaceship, Jesus Walks, Breathe in Breathe Out, Last Call, Family business(rarely), School Spirit...no skits they are funny but there are too many :-X
Last Call is prolly my fav from the album
-
I made a thread about a week after this album dropped "College Dropout is CLASSIC" and I still feel the same way. Def. agree with Nima, the best album by far dropped this year, and will still be one of the best for years to come IMO.

What I can't understand, is how it's possible to dislike Jay-Z and still be a Kanye fan.. :D :P
As a rapper, Kanye is Jay-Z light, but with production skills as well..
Not to mention, Jay-Z albums often have some of the same vibe as CG..
-
yep 8)
i was about to make the same post some days ago..but forgot about it..lol

LOL did anyone read the .nfo of Kanye_West-Unreleased_Joints_Vol_2-VLS-2004-RFL? ;D
ÛÛÝ Dear Kanye West ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I hate to say this , but I hate you. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I hate the fact that you sample just as much as P. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Diddy did when he was called Puff Daddy. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I saw that you had a car accident and for a minute ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ you made me feel kind of sympathetic and a little bit ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ psyched up that you made a song with your mouth wired ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ shut, then i realised what a mediocre rapper you are. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I hate that every damn time I turn on my radio or ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ television I hear your voice, something you produced or ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ see your face. Yes Kanye, I do hate you ! ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Did the whole World get brainwashed by you ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ for a minute?... ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ the sped up vocals thing was ok for a second, ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ but has been done to death. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I often wonder if you wasn't associated with Jay-Z ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ how many kids would check for you? ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ their is nothing new or original on this album. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ "Kanye" is NOT the saviour of Hip Hop. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Your album is weak and boring, as a rap listener since ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ 1982 I have seen too much hype over substance & this ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ is a clear case of that. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I feel like you are struggling to match words ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ together like a colorblind person struggles to find ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ a matching pair of socks. Instead of nodding my head ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ to most of the songs, I sit, puzzled, staring at my ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ stereo trying to fiqure out what you are saying. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Maybe if you had stayed in college a little ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ longer you would be able to come up with a more ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ complex rhyme scheme- not the grade school word ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ play your working with now. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Kanye , stick to producing man , and try formulating a ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ joint without sampling all the damm time. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Your appraoch and marketing is spot on , the way you ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ tried to make yourself accepted by the "backpack" ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ and "jiggy" community was very clever marketing. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ However i find it hard to believe i am the only ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ person who thinks your album is weak , you have the ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ weakest flow and are lame when riding beats. Your ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ is like a cheap Talib Kweli with an even worse flow ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Face it , you can't rap and can barely even rhyme ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ I find it amazing that people think your CD is good ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ at all... ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Just because you reviewed it 300 times yourself, ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ calling it 5 stars... ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Personally i don't believe the hype... ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ it's no wonder the price of this CD isdropping like ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ a rock , ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ because it's terrible . ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ In fact , it's the most OVERRATED CD I've heard ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ in years! Your flow is garbage. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ A friend of mine had the audacity to compare this ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ abominable collection of trash to 'Illmatic' ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ...ILLMATIC!! Touching again upon his subject ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ matter, I must say, that your lyrical content ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ is nothing more than the sum total of years of ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ recycled verbal trash. The paucity of lyrical ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ invention and uniqueness is disturbing, unacceptable ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ and just plain garbage.. I 'spose the 'R' was correct ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ when he said that no one could 'Follow The Leader' ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ....you sure as hell couldn't! ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ That everyone rates your CD a ridiculous 5-stars ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ is not indicative of its true worth, but more ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ evident of the state of major label hip hop as ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ being in the lyrical doldrums. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ That we've been plagued with lyrical redundancy ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ for so long is the reason why College Dropout ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ is lauded as the next best thing. It's absurd. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ The fact that reviewers are giving this album ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ five stars and claiming how it's a move for ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ hip hop in the right direction just shows how ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ sorry hip hop has become over the last decade ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ But even more desperate than that is how you ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ constantly throw "material things" in our face ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ to prove you've made it. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Man I remeber when people said that rappers like ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Willie D(from the Geto Boys) were trash, but at ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ least he had the decency to make a song called ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ "Go Back to School". You have a whole nutha agenda. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ You would love for everyone to become uneducated ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ idiots like yourlself. In theory, I guess it ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ makes perfect sense-cause only a brain-dead ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ zombie would spend £15 bucks on a cd like this. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Dumbed down for the masses-that's what this music ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ is. You are rapidly becoming the poster child for ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ the staement "ignorance is bliss" ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ You need to finish your degree because once people ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ find out you have hoodwinked them, your career will ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ be over. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ P.S. I'm not being a hater, I'm just tellin' it like ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ it is. ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ ÞÛÛ
ÛÛÝ Rocket Man. ÞÛÛ

As I read the above letter to kanye "Selfish" by Slum Villiage came in SIRIUS sattelite radio television thingy, A track produced by Kanye with no..NO sped up vocals, just straight up production where Kanye spits on the second verse and KILLS the track, the best verse I've heard in a long time might I add. That song alone discredits everything in the above letter to Kanye. Props to Kanye for being in demand and slaying the rap game in front of and behind the mic, keep doin ya thing.
-
LMFAO @ that letter. that is sum funny ass shit.

A "light" Jay-Z? Are you serious. They're completely different. What makes Kanye stand out is that he's relateable. While he does have some typical Hip Hop content from time to time, he usually spits shit people can be like "Oh yea, I did that..." Most rappers talk about pushing crack, pushing Bentleys(which Kanye does, too), Pimping and various other things I don't do. Kanye may not be complex, but he's a VERY good emcee. You don't gotta be Chino XL to be considered a dope emcee. Kanye comes with dope lines, great hooks, good concepts and just an overall genuine vibe. He(along with 9th Wonder) is bringing back that Golden Era feel, without over doing it. Hands down, College Dropout is the best album of the year, I don't see how it's not. Aside from the skits, I only skipped that track with Luda, the rest got major play.

Jay-Z is no Ras Kass neither, Kanye is similar to Jay-Z in many ways, and if you ask him, I'm sure that he will tell you that he's very Jay-Z influenced..
Jay-Z is considered "God MC" by many, even many rappers, he's considered top 5 by MANY people, he comes with dope lines, good hooks, and all the other stuff you can say about Kanye..
Kanye is a good rapper in many ways, but overall he's years & multiple albums behind Jay-Z.
"They're completely different" is not true at all, there's plenty of similarities.
-
Oh ok, so any rapper who comes with good hooks and dope lines is Jay-Z light? LMAO.
Listen to their content. Kanye talks about his being self concious, his family, his accident, getting girls, Jesus, school, working 9 to 5, social issues, etc. Jay-Z is more on some random player shit. He talks about hustling in the street, sometimes he'll get introspective, for the most part it's just generic studio thug music.
-
I personally think Kanye is very good as a producer. We forget also that Dilated Peoples This Way has no speed vocals, and same with Get By by Talib Kweli. As a producer, Kanye also did the Alicia Keys You Don't Know My Name, and that new Brandy song. Kanye is doing his thing, and what's wrong with his production style. Dr. Dre has had the same style since B-Please, and most every producer has their style they stick too. Kanye's is more of Hip-Hop on a commercial level, it works for him, let it be. No hating.
-
this is NOT the best album of 2004, kanye west is GOOD @ rappin but just an avarage producer IMO
-

I'm not saying they're sound-a-likes, but there's similarities..
Take a listen to some newer Kanye tracks, what does he rap about..
Picking up girls, model chicks, about being famous & becoming a big name, drinking, clubbing, driving fast cars, ordering Bentleys, fashion stuff, shouting out his people, etc..
Kanye is going to be rapping more and more about stuff like this, the bigger he gets, and the more fame he gets..
Jay-Z changed from poor street hustler slangin crack to big-time rich C.E.O. playboy mogul dude, and Kanye looks ready to go the same way.. they rap about what they live like, not only like they did when they didn't have it all.. (http://community.allhiphop.com/images/smilies/fragend013.gif)
-
Jay-Z is garbage don't compare him to Kanye West in anyway.
-
he's a new fad....in the last year i've heard the term classic thrown around far too many times...GRODT, Black Album, College Dropout.... funny thing is that only time can say what is classic or not...
i still see clubs play something off of doggystyle or chronic and fill the dance floor. now that's classic music....
i'm not saying these albums aren't classic, but we'll see....doubt it though
-
I still think that Royce Da 5'9" has the best album this year.
