someone here at work had a pair for blocking out when we had that proper eclipse a while back..
lil teeny black spot in bottom right corner of sun.. cant see with naked eye or with my oakleys on, lol

how rare is this type of eclipse?

the next one after that isnt until 2117
as you can see they come in pairs 8 years apart.

you needed special glasses to see it.... it was there... without them you wouldnt have noticed.. which is why it was only discovered in 1631..

Last time it was viewable here was in 1769, next time will be in 2046 or something..
