Right.. I've been working on getting my mind right back on track with the upgrade of wcc to the new forum software.
this all got screwed up before because i had to move the forum to a new host before i wanted to, i had been hoping to do the upgrade/move in one step.
If you have any suggestions, ideas, queries etc outside what I list below please speak up now as I'm starting to set down the final final plan.
- no posts, user accts etc will be lost.
- new layout. won't be dramatically different, but will be tarted up a lot.
- the actual board itself will be faster, and less prone to slowdowns
- new sections and moving around of stuff..
we can have sub forums there'll be some to cover things like 'key style'.
plus some new sections (suggestions? )
like the "gear" one, and one for sharing audio links
also some sections will not be viewable by guests (esp audio links one)
- more smileys
- 'quick reply' facility

its a completely different set of scripts than this forum uses right now. more like moving to a new forum than an upgrade.
its gonna be a whole whole lot faster.
HOWEVER.. the speed problems in the last few weeks have been due to hackers attacking the hosts servers. we're already running a lot faster, and without the frequent problems like we had on the old host.

We need a little questionaire before you sign up, just to make sure people are proper material for the board. I.E., questions like
"We're all Christians here.... .how about you?"

If we are gonna get an audio section, you should take it one step further and only allow people to enter if they've posted over 100 posts for example, or else there's gonna be a SHITLOAD of registered members that don't even contribute to the board. Just a suggestion

Good idea IMO.
The stuff Seer already posted sounds good... No complaints there.

That's a good point. I do that on other forums, I'm registered, but only so I can download music.

what i mean is, users and posts will be untouched, just converted.. no loss of anything.. (i.e. the vault and everything else will remain intact!)

That's a cool idea. This site I visit has a thing called "Spoiler text" it's a little code you can insert like the Italics or Bold on this board to make the text the same color as the page background. You have to hilight the text to be able to read it. It's cool when you are talking about movies and such so it dosen't give away parts of the movie.

well its not broken or nothing, but when you're lookin for something and got the "subject" field checked it will find you the word in the "message" and not "the subject"...stuff like that

I don't know if it would still be usefull since all the "net fights" problems seems to be over... but just in case, to avoid some conflicts, I think it would be good to be able to ignore a user so you don't see his posts

the search should be good.. they' rewrote the entire forum from the ground up for speed.
i also forgot the HUGE amount of extra features, and i'm still learning some!
for example, there are a huge amount of personal, and global statistics,
along with how many posts someone has made, you can see how many were polls.
(talking of polls, there are now -unlimited- options)
and
you can see how many posts were new threads, how many were within threads,
how long someone has been online *ever*
you can see the hours someone is often active
when they were last on.
which boards they post more often within!
oh and i can spot alias's with a click of my finger, it has stuff built in to tell me about em! there is a full tracking system for users, ips al kindsa stuff.

Here's a overview of the suggestions:
1. share audio links (Audio section + maybe request section...)

(Jome suggestion: Have a request section as well, with same rules as above ^^. If audio section gets too big, make subsections e.g. "Outbound Music", "Westcoast music"..)

18. My suggestion:
If you hit "show all posts of this user", you will only get 10 or 20 replies, and if you wish to see more, you'll have to hit "page 1, 2, 3, etc.."
If a user have 7454 posts, it takes FOREVER to find them all..
19. My suggestion:
Avatar limiter.
Possibility to limit avatars/sigs to a certain size, either in MB or in length/width.
I'm tired of scrolling both vertically & horizontally when browsing a thread, and I bet it's not easy on 56 K'ers as well.
Maybe a "No avatar/sig before you hit 100 posts" or something, newcomers usually seem to have the biggest avatars.

I have a plan of the structure here, the layout is 100% complete!
The only thing we're short of is a final logo
after that i just have to upgrade wcc, install the theme.. etc etc..
i'm hoping to do it all on saturday :)
