Title: Funny Thing About Kam On "U Ain't Fresh"
Post by: Eddie G. on July 03, 2004, 10:41:00 PM
Remember Kam's classic verse on "U Ain't Fresh" from Balance and Options?  One of the lines that always comes to my mind is "How you tite, you don't even write your own rhymes?"  Well, I was reading the booklet the other day, and it says "Written by DJ Quik and E. Sermon," there's no writing credit for Kam.  So did he really not even write that shit?  He's a huge hypocrite if he really didn't write it.  But my instincts tell me it was a fuck up on the credits.

I'm like 99.9% sure KAM has written the verse. It's totally his style...so yeah, I think the person who typed the credits fucked up.

Kam got get-back
So get up off my dick, rat
Nigga, that shit whack
You want a hit track?
Where Quik at?
Knick, knack, patty whack
I only bone dimes
How you tight?  You don't even write your own rhymes
It's been a long time
Since you last heard from me
Like Bill ass Hillary, "what's up?"
Still love me, pretty young thang?
City I'm from bang
What's up, nigga?
Real G's don't wear titty and tongue rings
You's a fruity-o, you make the most excuses
And keep a studio full of ghost producers
Young boss heard
You was tryin' to floss, nerd
Hollerin' "which side is the realest?"
Who you steal that from? (Mausberg)
The street slang thief is your chief employment
You live a life full of grief after brief enjoyment
Fake gang bangers, when you see us, tuck all rags
Adios, buenos dias, fuck y'all fags!

quik and sermon couldn't write rhymes like that. <no need for dickriders to get mad, its just the truth.  it follows his rhyme scheme, too.

erick sermon didn't diss dre in his verse.  his verse was on some abstract generic shit.  dre fell off anyway.

cats sleeping on erick sermon but he's one of the few cats on the east coast that always reached out and showed love to artists on the west coast.  erick and kam go way back (like 93 or so) with that.  and this was at a time when he didn't need to do that as epmd and hit squad were holding it down out east.  redman too for that matter.  redman loved to sample west coast artists for hooks and skits and shit like that.  showing love to cube and cypress hill.  don't sleep on def squad.

Like Smartass said, neither Quik nor Sermon could write a verse that good. I remember noticing that too, always thought it was a fuck-up.

In XXL, Quik denies it being about Dre but in the next sentence, more or less admits it's Dre. He says something along the lines of he was dissing someone who was the greatest producer in rap music and then when asked about who he thinks the greatest producer is, he says Dre. I recall Quik saying the Dre situation was based off of him having haters in his circle who said "Dre said this about you".

It was towards Dre, he was backtracking after they got together to do "Put It On Me".  In a song on Mausburg's album, "No More Questions" i think was the song, he says Andre you owe me at the end of the third verse, but the name is beeped out.  Then in another unreleased song, "Status" i think, he says something about owing Mausburg for a verse, i think he's talking about the Snoop song "Groupie", but I could be wrong.  He was def. dissing Dre and possibly snoop for a short time there.

On the song Status Quik was dissing Ice Cube.
