LISBON (Reuters) - Cannabis in the Netherlands is almost twice as strong as in the rest of the European Union, where the drug's potency has remained stable, the EU drugs agency said on Friday.
Politicians' worries over the health risks of stronger cannabis prompted the Lisbon-based European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction to examine marijuana and hashish available in the bloc.
"Today's report shows that effective potency of cannabis in nearly all EU countries has remained quite stable for many years," the center said.
The potency of cannabis in most EU countries has remained at about six to eight percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main active ingredient.
The only exception was in the Netherlands, where potency had reached 16 percent by 2001-02, mostly because of supplies of intensively produced home-grown cannabis.
However, this did not affect the EU average since most cannabis consumed there was produced outside the bloc.

great suprise, while the Netherlands is the only place in the world where you can smoke weed like drinking tea or something. how can you compare a country where you can go into a coffee shop and choose between 10 different sorts of weed/hash and ways to consume it to a country like germany where youre searched for weed by police randomly on the street, and if you have something with you youre fucked BIG TIME.

there is still a small taboo on smokin weed. the older folks 40+ dont like it. my parents would freak out when they know i smoke it.

I think my dad knows I smoke it.. and im pretty sure he's cool with it.. he's just never said anything to me about it, but im sure he knows about it..gives off hints sometimes lol...
like yesterday i showed him these big sunglasses i have.. the aviators or whatever, and he's like "oh ya.. to hide the red eye" lol..

Now, THAT'S a risk.
I dunno about Dutch or American narco-dogs, but those in Norway can tell it from your clothes if you have been in the same room with somebody smoking in the last 30 days..
That's IF, Holland actually have narco-tests.. lol

I was reading somewhere that some dutch politican was trying to classify dutch weed as a "Hard" drug cause it had so much THC in it...
Back when I used to smoke, I went to amsterdam and had a great time. I've smoked a LOT in my lifetime and I can safely say that I've never even been close to being that high.

I've never smoked weed even though I'm Dutch. It doesn't interest me in any way. I do have an unhealthy addiction to chocolate though :D ;)
By the way, weed might be easily found in the cities,but over here in 'the country' it's even easier. Everyone knows where you can get this or that. Ask your average person for cocaine or heroin and they'll give you directions to the closest location to get it. The police doesn't really care about most drugs unless it's really much.

yup the dutch weed is really strong... I heard like 20 times stronger than the hippie stuff 35 years ago. no suprise, they can grow it professionally, without bothering about police or anything. I'll be in Amsterdam in a few weeks. Not only god knows what I'll be doin the whole day.

I am sure you get searched a million times to make sure you aint smuggling anything out of the country. If they don't then i would by massive amounts of weed and fly home
