unless autorun is disabled...
" new Beastie Boys' CD called "To the Five Boroughs" (Capitol Records), is raising hackles around the Web for reputedly infecting computers with a virus.
According to a recent thread at BugTraq, an executable file is automatically and silently installed on the user's machine when the CD is loaded. The file is said to be a driver that prevents users from ripping the CD (and perhaps others), and attacks both Windows boxen and Macs
The infected CD is being distributed worldwide except in the USA and UK, which prevents us from giving a firsthand report. However, according to hearsay, we gather that the Windows version exploits the 'autorun' option, and that the Mac version affects the auto play option.
"
so its ok for the US and UK, but the rest of ya'll best beware!

On one hand I think they are damn right to do that. That would prevent people from bootlegging the album. On the other hand though, I hope they get suid because what they do is a crime.
-
^ Yup, that's a huge crime! And I don't think they're right to do that, because people sometimes just listen to the disc on the PC, why not?
-
It would be cool to take that cd to school or something, wouldn't it? :D
-
Isn't it legal to make copies of something you own? I know it's like that for video game roms.
-
Thanks for letting us know.

No.
It's criminal, totally illegal.
At least I know which CD's to boycott.. :)
I thought Beastie Boys was fans of downloading, they had music for free to download on their website, but I guess their label doesn't feel the same way.

yeah old news, could have been useful a month ago

I doubt that it has something to do with the Beastie Boys, because the virus isn't on the UK/US versions. Probably they're racists. SPREAD THE RUMOURS!! ;D

^^^^Lol!
Thanks for the news Seer...

I have a few CDs like that now, they usually make u listen to the CD through these special players.
-
Two things pop to mind. If it's only on the new Beastie Boys CD, that means a total of 14 computers have been infected.
Second, I think it's pretty clever, hahah.

a bunch of old white men rating rap albums, hold about as much weight as the cat on the block pushing nickels and dimes.

i think I would rather take the opinion of some old white men from rolling stone than some frequent poster named Smartass (who obviously doesn't know shit) on Dubcc
