After absorbing something of a working over of late from fans and the media, Frank Warren has finally delivered a WBA world title shot for unbeaten junior welterweight star Ricky Hatton.
What's more, 'the Hitman' will enjoy hometown advantage as the fight will take place at the Manchester Arena in his hometown of Manchester, England. The likely date will be October 2, which will suit both Showtime and Sky Sports, who screen Hatton's fights in the US and UK respectively.
Just yesterday, Hatton was quoted in the Express newspaper as saying he would leave Warren, who has promoted his entire career, if the Sports Network boss didn't deliver the Harris fight. But delivered it is according to reports.
This is undoubtedly the hardest fight of the 25-year-old Briton's career. Harris, 24-1-1 (15), is leagues above the kind of fighters Hatton has been doing in of late, and he can't wait to come to the UK to face what he feels in an over-estimated, protected fighters
Harris told SecondsOut's Paul Upham: "This is fight that I really wanted. This is the fight I wanted from the time that I won my world title. I'm prepared to go to England to fight him. Hatton is just fighting fighters who had a career and who are now going out of boxing. He hasn't fought any solid junior welterweight like me. Ricky Hatton is just a normal fighter to me."
