My mum doesnt have anything against it,she likes 2 listen 2 it from time 2 time. She's rather in2 commercial rap,I guess thats no surprise here. She likes for example Eminem,50,Snoop Dogg,a bit of Dre,u know, all the rappers that people listen 2 when they really aint that much in2 hip hop as we are.One day I turned on Regulate by Warren & Nate real loud & she was like "Im surprised u listen 2 that type of music",lol.I dont know if she knew if this was rap or not,I guess she was just surprised that there are such laid back & great songs like this.I had 2 tell her it was G-Funk & all that, but yeah, she really liked that song. But sometimes she just hates rap & likes 2 criticize it,lol.Anyway on the sideline she thinks Snoop is an idiot, even tho she likes some of his songs. She says he looks like a joke & all that. When he's on TV & tryna look hard she just laughs at him usually. This is what happened 2 me 2day,I just turned on What Would U do by Tha Dogg Pound & my mum just walked in2 my room & when she saw Snoop lookin how he looked in that video clip she just started laughin her head off, lol. That kinda gets on my nerves but I gotta deal with it.So what about yall parents?

my parents hate that gangsta rap thing, i do to actually. but they like most of my music from time to time like; mos def, talib kweli, common, N*E*R*D* etc. so its all good. my parants say most rappers dress like idiots. my dad always says somethin like: have you noticed that basketball jersey is more like a dress. for godsake it hangs over his knees, what an idiot. its kinda true actually.
-
i remember when i was lil ma dad used to bump ol skool rap . but now if i play nu skool . he says its aight , but not as good as ol skool

Maybe she subconsciously remembered I Keep Forgettin' by Michael McDonald. That's where the sample came from.

I dont know,maybe?

I have a great story about my parents introduction to gangsta rap - sorry it's long but its a funny story....
It was 1993 and i was on vacation with my family. Anyways we were at the mall, and I had my Chronic tape in my walkman - I never went anywhere without that tape. So I go into a music store and ask my dad to hold the tape while I go in so they don't think i stole it. So my dad looks at the tape and sees some of the song titles and asks me what kind of music it is. So I tell him, and i figure that was that. Well then my whole family piles back into the van, and we continue driving. Then my dad says "I wanna hear what this tape sounds like, put it in the stereo. So immediately i'm like fuck, but i have to do it. Now keep in mind, when i first got the tape, i was only listening to the side that had Dre Day, Nuthin but a G thang, etc. I hadn't even listened to the other side yet. So my dad grabs the tape and throws it in. It just so happens that he plays the B side, and it is perfectly set on the skit where the chick goes to the doctors office to see dre. as we all know, dre fucks her, loudly i might add for a good minute or two. Well my whole family hears the whole thing and are in shock. let me just say, it was one of the most akward moments of my adolescent life. But, now my dad has a lot of respect for how talented a producer dre is - so its all good.

lmao, that shit had 2 be hilarious
-
I had a similiar experience but wit my Restless DVD,I was watchin the part where Xzibit raps Fuckin U Right & as yall know theres lots of tits, ass & all that in that scene. So I was watchin that scene & my mum just walks in my room & Im like "It aint what u think,I can explain"lol. So I told her whats goin on & thankfully they showed Xzibit rapping in that scene a few more times. She didnt say anything but man I thought I was gone.

I have no clue! My parents know I listen to urban music and all, but we never had a talk about it or something.
-
my mom loves rap lol its pretty funny. you hear her fuckin rappin the lyrics and shit and if we go any where on long family trips and shit i gotta burn her mix cds. she especially loves that one fucking song, we all die one day. lol my mom is 41, and im 18, and when i hear her goin i got a 12 gauge mossberg to pump up your chest. that shit is madddddd funny
-
haha,Id love 2 hear that
-
They like rap. Not the violent stuff, though.
-
My mom isn`t against it and she doesn`t say anything when I listen to it.....but my dad is like "don`t play that so loud".....I have a story too about this but it would take ages to write....
-
My parents used to be into it when they were younger, most of my OG hip-hop CD's were passed on to me from my dad. Bother of them listen to R&B for the most part, but they still bump 2pac, Warren G, and Quik from time to time.
-
not really, he likes how it sounds btu he says the rappin ruins the songs. He did like a couple of songs tho, he likes big poppa by biggie
-
my mom hates the "bitches n hos" shit but likes some of the more creative stuff my dad likes rap but my parents listen more to reggae than anything else
-
I donno, probably think its shit but then again so do i(not including west cost).
-
To quote my dad:
'Turn that bloody noise of!'
'I can't believe you like that!'
'Horrible!'
'I think those people throwing their hands up is soooo dumb' (He obviously doesn't know about gang signs and such)
But in some very rare instances, he's said 'I don't think this one's that bad'
My mother feels the same way,but she hardly says anything about it except that she doesn't like most of it.
As to rappers they know, they've heard of Eminem,Dre & Snoop and I think that's where it stops.
-
my moms gets down with hip hop. a lot of the hip hop songs sample a lot of the older songs, so shes able to recognize them and shit. she liked aaliyah, nate dogg, john legend, dj quik.. few others.. she even watched the 2pac thug angel dvd.. she doesnt like shit with hella swearin in it though..
-
My mom dont hate it.. If im in the car with her she'll let me listen to it. My dad dont care either but my dad is pissin me off. He makes gang signs and shit somtimes. >:(
We went out to eat and we had a black guy for a waiter.. my dad was like "its aighhhhttt" when they said they didnt have something. I wanted to fucking hide. :-[
-
my dads says its crap, that the same beat is repeatin all the time.
and my mom crys all the time cos my stereos r so loud, so shes like "u always play that rock n roll" and im like "its called hiphop.." but its all good.
-
Rock & Roll Mofo!
-
My mom actually introduced me to the Chronic. I liked Dre on the radio, but at the time my dad was not interested in me getting tapes with cursing, so my mom got it for me. She loved Let Me Ride, and Ain't Nuthin' But A "G" Thang. But remember she is a former gang member. Eventually though, she just went back to her oldies.
My dad listened to it because I did. He knew the commercial stuff, and he loved Coolio and 2Pac. Now he doesn't like it, and he tells me how it's turned to crap... lol. His now gone back to his regular old country music, but if some old 2Pac is on, he wouldn't turn it off.
Now my grandma is the best, both my grandmas. My mom's mom, she listens to it and laughs at all the cursing. My dad's mom, who has the worst mouth, she thinks Snoop Dogg is over exposed... lol. She's like, his always on my damn TV... lol.
-
Both my parents hate it, I listen to other music with my Dad though sometimes.
-

ROTFLMAO!!!!
all my dads homies and employees are black, so sometimes to be cool with them, he trys to be "Oh thats so tight".. & "Yea Cuzz" it just sounds soo funny comin from his mouth, just picture a very dark mexican sayin that, thats my dad....
-
LMMFAO at these stories and shit...I have never actually laughed so much in a thread at wcc before...this stuff is too funny, I can actually picture parents doing all this mad shit. The Chronic tape in the car and the "its aigggght" stuff had me rollin.
Anyway, my Mum and Dad just let me listen to what I want and respect that. My Dad prob doesn't feel rap music as much as my Mum because he gets pissed off alot at the loud beats. My Mum likes Kanye I think, she likes the All Falls Down and Through The Wire vid's so thats cool. They both don't like the swearing involved and I don't really like em hearing it, thats why I only really listen to rap music in my room or away from my folks.
lol, heres another lil funny story. I had Shyne on the other day and my bedroom door was open. My Dad was in the bathroom and he walked past my door singing "What...you...gunna...do...when...shit...hits...the...fan", lol. He did it in like a crazy paused voice, lol funny as hell.
-
My Dad likes it, cuz all his friends listen to it or rap *cough* Weasle Loc *cough*
My Mom Likes All Pop Music And Any Rap They Play on KIIS FM (THE FORBIDDEN STATION, IF THIS STATION IS EVER PLAYED IN MY CAR, THAT PERSON IS BANNED FROM LIFE!)
They dont give a care what we listen to, my lil sister is all EMO-CORE and my lil brother is a Techno Junkie, im the only one who listens to hip-hop @ home, (It used to be my older brothers & sister too, but they gone now)
-
my mum pretty much hates the music i listen to, mainly because she feels that the language used is unnecessary etc etc...altho, she does like some 2pac stuff, namely Dear Mama, almost had her in tears lol...

Haha same with me

My mom doesn't usually say anything. Except in the car, in the car she always asks me to turn it down or off. But my dad can't apparently hear any other words in the songs except the cuss words. He's always like "How can you listen to this noise? All they do is say fuck shit motherfucker." He doesn't like the beats either, he thinks they're just repetitive drum and bass sounds. BUT, on two occasions he's said he liked the instrumental - these songs were Warren G's "G Spot" and DJ Quiks "Tha Ho In You". Not that surprising, they're mighty soulful tracks. But the rest of the time is just criticism towards the cussing and the beats "that just go bang, bang, bang, bang..."
But I couldn't really give a fuck if they liked it or not. I like it, that's what matters.
-
they like sum shit but when i play em sumthin they usually concentrate on the music much more than on the rappin unless sumbody got a special accent or an incredible flow or sumthin. they ain't happy with sexist or stereotypically violent rap, but I'm really old enuff for them not to think it spoils me or whatever
-
I've got a story to tell.
Growing up, my parents hated rap music period. They thought it was evil or what not and on top of that, I grew up in a strict religious household. At any rate, I managed to keep my love of rap music secret (this is during the late 80's and early 90's). Anyway, all shit hit the fan when I was around 18, this is in 1993 mind you. My parents found my copy of Onyx "Bacdafucup" tape on my floor in my room. I thought I had lost it but they kept it hidden for a month or so. Then one day they just blew up at me over some drama me and some friends got into that they found out about when they listened to my conversations on the phone. That inevitably segued over to my taste in music, where voila...the bacdafukup tape magically appears in my mother's hand. They accused me of trying to be a "gangster" and they rifled through all my tapes in my drawer in my room. Amerikkka's most wanted, gone. Fear of a Black Planet, gone. Straight outta Compton, gone. Niggaz4Life, gone. The Chronic, gone. Cypress Hill, gone. They threw out anything that had a warning label attached to it. I was devasted. It was like losing a loved one.
I think they've softened up a little bit on that. I even played some of the beats I made and they liked it. Back then it was a whole other story.
-
lol...I don't think my parents feel hiphop that much, sometimes my mom becomes interested in certain samples she hears through the beat, when they sample all kinds of oldies that sound familiar but u can't put your finger on it, she can also apriciate a rapper's vocal clearity, and delivery.
-
they dont give a fuck. they dont even understand a word.
-

:D Its real funny for u.. It used to be OK for me but I drew the line when my dad starting doing gang signs. :-\

You guys have some sad ass parents.
Sadder are the people trying to get their parents to listen to Hip Hop.
