Title: Lottery Winner Shot Dead By Police
Post by: mrtonguetwista on October 13, 2004, 01:59:00 PM
LOS ANGELES -- A Los Angeles man who won the lottery four years ago was shot to death by Seattle police during a fight outside a bar Sunday.

A police officer said he opened fire after 32-year-old Rick Camat shot a semiautomatic pistol at a car that was leaving the area, refused to drop the weapon after being warned and instead pointed it at officers.

Camat's relatives dispute the officer's claim. They say he fired a gun into the air to break up a fight he witnessed outside the bar, and police never issued a warning before shooting him.

Another officer who was at the scene contends the brother's account "differs vastly from the statements of dozens of witnesses who were at the scene."

Camat was one of 13 Starbucks employees in LA who split an $87 million jackpot in 2000. He moved to Federal Way, a suburb between Seattle and Tacoma, six months ago.
