But Fuck it, here goes,
Some people here say that R. Kelly is a perv and so is Michael Jackson, and I agree. It is wrong to exploit kids that way. In due time they will pay for what they did. But what I've noticed is that while you're sayin that you're also bumpin Game, Snoop, 50, Tupac...ect. They also rap, sing, talk about violence towards other people, talkin about how they shot this person, sold this many drugs, pimped all these hoes....ect. Don't get me wrong, I like their music, but I think that we need to look at things both ways as well. Rape is wrong, murder is wrong, sellin drugs is wrong, and I'm a firm beleiver in what goes around, comes around. Well just had to get that off my chest, let the hating begin ::)

Obviously to rape is wrong, to murder is wrong, etc.. But you have to understand that probably 0.01% of those rappers actually does it. "Gangsta" rap music is like "Gangsta" movies. For damn sure to murder somebody is wrong, but The Godfather is no doubt a masterpiece. You know what i mean? I'm Italian. I know it's "gangsta" to think about italian mafia, most people from all over the world thinks it's good to be from mafia, or respect mafiosi, probably cause they've seen all those movies about italian mafia, etc.. At the same time, some people might think it's good to call a girl "hoe", or to diss the police, or to diss whites, to be a racist, to sell drugs, etc.. But IMO it's all up to people's intelligence. Stupid people will be affected from "music" or "movies", intelligent people (i'm a litte example: i'm a lawyer, but i do listen to gangsta rap music) will still recognize what's real and what's fake, what's good and what's wrong, who's intelligent and who's "created". Let's not criminalize gangsta rap (again!): it's all up to people's intelligence. One of my fav track ever is Downtown Assassins, from Snoop's Doggfather. 0% said in that song is real. 0% said in that song is intelligent. But still it's a good damn song.

Damn, i was going to post a lot of shit but i cba.
All i can say, is kel' and jacko aren't guilty until proven otherwise, and i think these studiogangstas (you mentioned 50, snoop and game) don't have that much influence on most people when it comes to the lifestyle. Do you know ANYONE who went pimping, just because Snoop was talking about it, or sold crack because 50 once did so?
-
I think it mainly comes down to immaturity. I agree with the last poster, nobody's gonna run out and start pimping because Snoop said so....... and something like a pimp exists in the world without Snoop. However, it's pretty immature to listen to that kind of music, in my opinion. I'm just looking for something more mature that I can relate to better.
-
there's nothing wrong with violence.
the guardian recently pondered why no political assassins have been inspired to greatness by g-dub and i share that sentiment.
-
"there's nothing wrong with violence"
I peacefully disagree

is listening to immature music necessarily an immature action to you? I'd disagree...

Like everything else, it's relative

define mature music 8)
-
the only reason rappers rap about rape, murder etc....is because thats what perverted muthafuckas like us like. we're the ones that go out and buy it. most of them dont even do the shit they rap about. but they see how popular NWA got and thought....hmmm.....thats better than a nine-to-five

Well while I may not agree with what you said I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
Let's take Snoop for example. He used to sell drugs, he did time in jail for that and all. But then he quit slangin rocks when he got a chance to be a professional rap artist. Now he uses what he grew up around as source material for his raps.
That part, my friend, isn't any different from playwrights, novelists and poets. The music is entertainment, so what if there's explicit stuff in there? You can see the same shit in all kinds of entertainment - video games, TV, books, movies - shit, even on the news every day. The reason why they use that shit is because it's entertaining and it sells. It ain't nothing more than a fantasy sold to the people because they find it entertaining.
So fuck all that bullshit about rappers saying negative things. If that's so wrong why isn't there talk like that about novelists and such? It's just entertainment. We choose to hear it too, nobody forced me to listen to Chronic 2001.

as in, it depends how listening to it would influence you? i'd agree with that, but i don't feel extremly immature listening to Niggaz 4 Life for its sound and i know very well how immature a lot of it is
-
I agree to a degree, but it's all entertainment. However if you are raised right you know it's all entertainment and won't be affected or influenced at all by it.
