Dr. Dre 2001 was released and debuted at #2 on the billboard charts. I always felt that if it weren't for the fact that MP3 early downloads and bootleg CDs were just emerging and starting to affect rap sales, this album woulda debuted at #1. Even though this album went multi-platinum (which is all that really matters), it was just funny to me that this album never made it to #1.
I listened to the entire album this past weekend, and this is definitely an album that I think has replay value and may never get old. Even though the sound was something new at the time 5 years ago, I don't see any of the music on there soundin dated at all.
I hear a lotta people say that you can't really call an album "classic" until you hear it 5 years after it came out...and I will have to say that this is definitely a CLASSIC.

yeah its classic, my only complaint is them pointless skits he had in there. but hearin tracks like "Xxplosive", "Fuck You", "Bitch Niggaz", and "Akrite" made it worth it.

I feel u. Well the first skit was pointless to me, the one at the bar, and then "light speed" was the only average or even weak song on the album to me. The other skits were pretty tite, the porno shit was hillarious, and the Eddie Griffin shit was pretty funny.
If I could change anything else about it, I would put a Snoop verse on "Lets get high" cot damn that shit woulda been fire.

This is album is a true classic. No throwing the word around, it is a classic. It's still in my weekly rotation. I just push play and wait until I hear Chong's voice at the end. No skipping, nothing. I haven't had an album blow my mind away since this album dropped. When I first heard the "Xxxplosive" and "Forgot About Dre" beats I was speechless. Damn I hope I get the same feeling when Detox drops.

Man, I remember the day I bought the CD like it was yesterday. I ditched class with one of my boyz and got both Dre and Kurupts's Streetz is a Mutha CD. Two of my all time favorites of all time. A lot of people saying the skits would be the only weakness but I was actually feeling them. The only weak point of the album for me was "Light Speed". Coo track, but the others were far superior to me than that one. Anyway, classic CD and I have no doubt in my mind that Detox will be another one.

I can't complain about the skits, can't complain about light speed. I knew this would be a classic from the very first time I heard it, there's not much about this cd that could or should have been done better.

Wasn't posting, but I was browsing damn near everyday during lab at school. I was never apart of any of the activities on the board, but I remember all the beefs and sh*t there. Funny stuff, can't believe its been 5 years already. I was 18 when I started and i'm 23 now. What a trip....................

Ah Yes. A classic for sure - instant classic I think. I remember coppin the CD the day it dropped only to gettin it taken away the next day at school!

I don't think bootlegging on the internet hurt sales of this album at all. bootlegging on the net wasn't big back then.

I think this album's way too overrated,I dont see this as a classic album.Its got a few classic songs but some of the songs are just plain average in production & some of the rappers on certain tracks couldlve been replaced with other mc's.As for Light Speed,thats 1 of the highlights of the album.Dope Fredwreck production.

i was in grade 8..some dude in my science clas sold me his copy for 5 bucks ;D..3-4 days after iit released..his parents got it for him but he was into rock and shit 8)..worked out well for me

Classic no dount, I agree with murrow too i think it was an instant classic. Still D.R.E. remains to be my favourite Dre song ever, and favourite westcoast song-mainstream/gangsta anyways.
Only complaint is maybe one or two skits which we're useless and Bitch Niggaz, found it to be wack.

There's been alot of big selling albums that never reached #1.....
The Chronic, believe it or not, never reached #1....its peak position was #3.
2Pac's Greatest Hits has sold almost 10 million, but it never reached #1 either...I think it debuted at #5 then peaked to #2 once.

I was anticipating this CD more than anything. This CD is mos def. a Classic for me. The dope thing about it is, I'll go thru fazes. Like I'll put the cd in, and I'll just bump "Bang Bang" for like a week cuz I'm feelin it. Then a month later I'll put the CD back in, and I'll bump "Big Egos" for a week.
oh and it was Korn's "issues" that kept 2001 from reaching #1. When was the last time anyone talked about that Korn album >:(

look at the beats fred was making at the time.. remember streetz is a mutha dropped the same day as 2001.. it wasnt until kurupts next album he switched his sound up.

Whatever,Fredwreck himself said he produced a cut for Chronic 2001.His production sounds the same to me,I dont hear anything different in his production from them to now.BTW,how do u know its just a rumour,any proof???

the only thing i've ever seen is that one of the songs fred did on kurupts NEXT album sounded a bit like lightspeed from 2001.
fred started (and quicky stopped) sounding like dre on space boogie.. which dropped TWO YEARS LATER
