I just listened to this album again and it has to be a 4.5/5...No Dre production but Daz, Pooh, Sam Snead all come with tight beats, and lyrically this was probably Snoop's best effort...Downtown assassins is just 8)
-
Doggfather sux, Daz did a couple of heaters, but I will say it over again, DJ POOH IS WACK
-
I guess im middle of the road here. Definatly not classic or even near classic, but not wack either. Overall, a good album and still my second fav Snoop album.
-
Word, It is Snoop's second best album by far.
Snoop is like Suge, he never recovered after the Death Row era.
-
classic. definitely. love this album.
-
I thought The Last Meal & Topp Dogg were better. I didn't like this album.
-
easily his second best. last meal is a close third tho
peace
-
2nd best, not classic. some very dope songs. and dj pooh is a sick ass producer.
-
The production is decent nothing special but i thought Snoop was better lyrically on this album overall but DoggyStyle is still a better album overall.

Doggfather
Downtown Assasins
Up Jump Tha Boogie
Doggyland
I love this album!!
-
Its not a classic
-
Its not a classic
for me it is!!
-
This album is fucking Classic , Doggyland is the tightest song , i really think after doggfather snoop should have gracefully ended his career , with them two albums
-
Doggfather is the shiiiiet.! "Sixx Minutes" w Tray Deee and "Downtown Assasins" are just sick. Paid the Cost and even R &G take the backseat to this. Snoops best album without Dre.
-
this album is the dopest shit that came out that year besides 2pacs projects.....and dj pooh is tha shit .....his comilation bad news travels fast stays in my stereo...
-
downtown Assasins is tiiiiight
-
doggystyle is what 'classic' GANGSTA rap should be
last meal is what 'classic' gangsta/intelligent rap should be
doggfather is a good album, but last meal blows it out of the water in my mind... and just barely beats out doggystyle

-
Personally I don't think the whole LP is a classic, but there definately are straight up classic songs there. Vapors, Gold Rush, Downtown Assasins... 8)
-
this was a dope album...

this was a dope album...

The BIGGEST problem with this album isn't the beats or the lyrics.
It's the fact that NO ONE knows how to mix Snoop's vocals better than Dre. Snoop's voice is too low in the mix on nearly every track on this album. Listen to Snoop on a D-R-E track and then listen to him on a Pooh production - Pooh had no idea how to make his vocals sit in the mix right. Fucked up the whole feel of the album for me.
-
doggystyle is what 'classic' GANGSTA rap should be

beg to differ on that kinfolk
classic gangsta rap is.. mc eiht we come strapped.
but doggfather was a good album...i liked it...alot.
-
yeah, a top 3 Snoop album, solid and had some heaters but Last Meal was Snoop's 2nd BAOAT
-
last meal is what 'classic' gangsta/intelligent rap should be
Am I the only one who struggles to see how Last Meal was intelligent rap?
On topic, Doggfather is a dope album, it was always fall into the same category as Nas's It Was Written, because although they were both dope albums they were disappointments compared to the albums they followed, meaning that people never really gave them the credit they deserved.
-
this album is lovely. so many classic songs on this shit. awesome.
-
My favorite Snoop album.
-
This thread has been made about 5 times in the past couple years, but yeah, it IS a classic, or at least a personal classic to me. Downtown assassins, wake up (OJ)- tray deee RIPS that shit!!!!
the album is listenable from front to back, not one skipper! I actually didnt like the album at first, it was so different from what i expected-- when the albium was released we were all expectinjg dre beats and shit, so it was a letdown at first to say the least. However, back then without internet you didnt have access to lots oif new shit so we kept listening to it, and it became a classic in my eyes
-
It's not a classic, or even close but it is a really good album.

That's the truth. I remember when I first got this album in 96, I was wondering why I could barely hear snoops voice, still this is Snoop's best album lyrically, even though kurupt and bad azz ghost wrote a some tracks (blue berry and another one). Stands outs for me were:
Doggfather, doggyland, downtown assassins, sixx minutes, OJ(wake up) w/ Tray Dee, groupie....shoot there were a lot of tight tracks
-
Doggfather is a classic. The question for me is, why are people hating on Top Dogg?
-
doggfather is easily my favorite snoop album.
-
yall are crazy, listen to doggfather again, you will appreciate it more.
-
4.5/5 album..........most niggaz would only hope to able to release an album of this quality as a first album........obviously dogystyle was what snoop had to follow up which was one of hiphops finest moments y'all, whether u like it or not
-
91 out of 100

LOL @ Last Meal. You can't even compare the two - Snoop barely got a word in with all the guest appearances on that album.
-
I break fools off like lepracy!!!
-
whatta fuck this thread again???? ....how tha fuck can u say that this album is a classic...its horrible...Snoop sounds like he been smokin crack through the recording sessions...no flow no nothin...
Peace
