Raptors trade Carter to Nets
TSN.ca Staff with ESPN files
12/17/2004
Vince Carter's days as a Toronto Raptor have come to an end.
ESPN reports that the New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors have completed a trade that sends Carter to the Nets, pending league approval.
In exchange for Carter, the Raptors receive center Alonzo Mourning, guard Eric Williams, forward Aaron Williams and two first round draft picks.
Carter was placed on the injured list with a strained left Achilles' tendon last Friday and is to miss at least five games.
Reports surfaced in July that Carter was not happy with the hiring of GM Rob Babcock nor with the selection of Rafael Arajuo with in the NBA draft and asked for a trade.
Carter has almost three years plus an option for a fourth left on his contract, which pays him approximately $12.6 million US this season.
Mourning, 34, has two years left on a contract that pays him $5.4 million this season and $6.4 million for 2005-2006. Aaron Williams, 33, makes $3.1 million this season with an option for $3.3 million next year, while Eric Williams, 32, signed a three-year, $12 million contract in August.
More to follow.

This trade could look shitty on the surface for the Raptors, but they are getting some expiring contracts I believe with some of these guys, so they'll have some nice money for next year. In my opinion though the 2 first round pics are what makes the trade, especially if Jersey finishes low.

im shocked to see vince end up in jersey

not much in return for now for vince, but i agree the draft picks will be good. i thought the knicks were going to make a push for him. i assume carter being injury prone player hurt his value.

lol me to man, I really thought he was going to the knicks. Isaiah Thomas wanted Vinced really bad, and rumour has it there was a little bidding war goin on with the knicks and Jersey to get Vince..

what you talkin about? this is GREAT FOR the raptors..vince isn't much of a player anymore.

Damn...The trade with Portland (for Shareef) seemed more reasonable, but this could also work out for both teams...Alonzo Mourning is a lot better than he's been playing, after a long absence from the NBA, and I believe that he is only going to improve within the next year...Both teams will be playing on about the same level as they were before the trade, so I believe that New York or Portland should have really made a run for Carter, because he would have fit in better with those teams...Oh well, should be interesting.

I agree man, I like the trade myself, but for some people that haven't watched alot of Raptor ball they might say we got ripped off. They hear the name Vince Carter, and think he's a lil bit better then what he is, and more like the player of old, which he's not. Jersey won't see him driving the lane much, but they will see him throwin up alot of fadeaway jumpers.

Damn! Wonderful trade for the Nets. I mean they have Kidd, Jefferson, and now Carter, and they all can run. Plus Carter is a very good shooter, so.. It's a good trade for them. I'm happy about it. Carter had to leaver Toronto, things were falling down there. Raptors have a good player in Mourning, another player i like in E.Williams, and they will have draft picks and contracts expiring. Good for them too. But i like the "new" Nets with VC & Kidd.

the nets should be tight

No doubt.
This is a wicked deal for Toronto, and they still get to keep Jalen Rose. Now they will have a HUGE frontcourt aswell. Donyell Marshall, Chris Bosh Mourning and Williams are all solid front court players. Rafer Alston, Jalen Rose and Eric Williams is a good back court aswell.
Im so happy Vince is gone now, that pussy did nothing but get injured, cry and complain for the 2 years.

U Know whats Funny? Vince's First Game Is Going to be @ TORONTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
you all have to look deeper than how well vince plays. the man fills the seats. now that vince is gone, why would anybody want to watch a raptor's game?
