Boo Yaa TRIBE: "Bang On" was their 1st single (and it was banned from MTV a few weeks after being released.) They never released a 2nd one...
213: Whatever happened to Joysticc being the 2nd single? Were the label execs afraid that Snoop would get too much exposure before the release of his own solo album, 'cause it could "overkill" him in the media?
(There's another West Coast album which didn't get a 2nd single, but I can't think of it right now..)
-
Good question. WSC went gold with just one single. They definitely should've followed up on that.
-
Was the Boo Ya single really banned or didn't they just play it any more?

I thought they had Gangsta Nation and then as a follow up Lights Out?
-
^^^^No, Lights Out came before Terrorist Threats (it was the single for Mack 10's Ghetto, Gutter & Gangsta...remember?).
Yeah, the WSC album was the one I had in mind: "You Gotta Have Heart, "Get Ignit", could've been tight singles...it's a shame.
Other examples: Knoc, Yukmouth, etc...
-
X's ''Weapons of Mass Destruction''. Haven't heard anything on the status of ''Saturday Night Live'' as the 2nd single in a while...beginning to doubt that it will ever emerge. :-\
-
wsc had lights out and gangsta nation as singles
pimp the system was released as a promo single

pimp the system was released as a promo single
Didn't know that...but what's the use of a single when you don't have a video for it...it's all about visualisation. The fans want to see the artist...
Judgement Day
Cold World
Scent Of A Woman
^^^^Some songs from WOMD with "hit-single potential"...
-
never saw a video for WC "Flirt", or for Warren G "Ghetto Village", Knocturnal "Him Or Me"...theres tons
-
^yeah i was gone say that Warren G track. i remember you reported that there was a remix with Nelly & Snoop Dogg that they were filmin a video for
and the 2nd Eastsidaz album didnt have a follow up (which was a dumb move cuz there was hella good ones to choose from)

What about "Criminal Set"?
-

it will get airplay, hopefully :P
in the states more promo singles are being released to radio stations than in europe and you also find less cd singles in record stores than in europe.
-
True...
-
we as fans need to demand the singles...call your radio station....make internet petitions....write letters.....holler at the video shows....
maybe we have more impact then we think? we gotta take it further than just bitching on a forum....but I feel you though...

wsc released " so many rappers in love" as a promo 12". i´ve heard that that they planned to do a vid 4 it aswell but i guess that never happened.

If an album doesn't have good numbers after the first single, a second single is damn near out the question. Plenty of artists don't release video's for their second single if they haven't done good numbers.

^ took the words right outta my mouth.. :)

Yeah, I understand. If they're a relatively new artist (or a veteran) and their album hasn't performed to the label's expectationsand drawn in respectable numbers they probably can't afford to spend on videos and promotion for a second single. Either that or the record label pulls the plug after the first, as I suspect may have happened with 213.

Exactly, it isn't just west coast gangsta acts that don't get videos for their second singles, Dilated didn't, Slum Village won't, neither in all probability will Mos or Kweli, its just the way the industry is at the moment.

Yeah, but it was a double a side single, and the both those videos were pretty low budget, theres no way he'll get a video for the second single (if there even is one)

the world famous beatnuts have never had more than 1 vid per album. so they started doin that thing where they have two half videos for two songs. thats hella lame
-
Sometimes it's the second or even the third single that becomes a hit and propels album sales. Look at Tribe Called Quest with "Scenario", that song was the third single off that album and became a huge hit. "I Get Around" was the second song released off of 2pac's "Strictly for my NIGGAZ". "Holla if you Hear Me" was the first single and it got no airplay at all. The Fugees first single, "Fugela" got no radio play and very little video play but "Killing Me Softly" caused the group to sell 10 million records.
To me, it seems that not releasing a second single is a bigger risk than releasing one, that second single could blow up.

Tray Deee said in some interview that Snoop and the record company torpedoed that one on purpose so they wouldn't have to pay him and Goldie Loc
