i was in japan from 99 - apr 2001
i was on a ship from 2001 to aug 2002 and for 6 months of that i was in the arabian gulf and straights of hormuz...for the war and also alot of piracy still goes on there

how was the food?
-
how was the food?
in Japan the food was great...steak and lobster tails every friday...authentic ramen soup... the japanese chefs did an outstanding job and that base is known for having 1 of the top 3 best Galleys in the whole military
the food on the ship was the worst shit i've ever had to eat...they would order more onions than any other food product...seriously hundreds of pounds of onions...and they would throw it into everything... the hamburgers would taste more like onions than meat....pineapple and pineapple juice was in everything too... the orange and fruit punch kool aid would taste more like pineapples... food was rarely ever hot and you're lucky if it was room temp... eggs were runny to the point of almost being undercooked.... it was just the worst food i've ever had to eat

it all depends..you start off in bootcamp getting about $150 a week, then in japan since the cost of living is so high it went from $300 - $400 a week... then depending on where you go in the ship it increases, i was making $650 tax free a week during the war or anytime i was in the gulf.. about $500 in guam and about $550 near australia
now i get $75 for 4 hours in the reserves
