which of these 2 classic do y'all think was better? well first off theres no doubt in my mind that these are THE 2 greatest hip hop albums of all time. I think that the chronic was a more influential album because it came out first and showcased everyones skill and put the spotlight onto the west, but jsut because it is more influential to the rap game does not mean its the better album. I thought doggystyle had everything a rap album should have: flawless rapping, no filler songs, top notch production, storytelling, straight gangsta shit. I serious can't think of anythin wrong wit the album. Doggystyle is a more complete album then the chronic is because whereas doggystyle has no filler songs i think the second half of the chronic gets a lil boring but still dope as hell just not as good as the first half. So My pick would be doggystyle because its the greatest album of all time, but the chronic is not too far from it.

I agree with most of what you're saying. These two albums are hard to pick from becuase they almost go hand in hand with each other. But if I had to pick, it would be Doggystyle.

Easy, The Chronic. Where as you say the second side of the Chronic is boring, remember that the second side is straight Gangsta Rap, with Funk samples, not like Doggystyle which is Funk with a Gangsta Rap twist. The Chronic laid the blueprint for a great album, and in Dr. Dre's way, he experimented with many sounds, and tried to put together a classic album. Doggystyle basically took whatever made The Chronic sell 3 million copied then, and made it to a whole CD. It's not like The Chronic, where you can tell the difference, Doggystyle songs where what people craved after The Chronic, and Dr. Dre delievering, which was more G-Funk beats, and Snoop's smooth flow over it and the Immates in the background. But The Chronic to me, 'cause it had a wider range of sound.

doggystyle 4 sure!

Doggystyle, no doubt.
Besides the RBX features I barely listen to the Chronic anymore. The beats did not have that much lasting value for me.

My opinion hasn't changed. Songs on the Chronic that were popular, Dre Day, Nuthin' But A G Thang, Lil' Ghetto Boys, Let Me Ride, those song were the foundation of the Death Row sound. But other songs on there were true Gangsta Rap songs and they went HARD. I think Doggystyle now has a dated sound. When this thread was made, people wanted that old G-Funk sound. But now Doggystyle sounds dated and "so 90's." But the Chronic may have some songs that sound of that era, those songs along with the rest of the album hold up very well. The Chronic can be put next to many other classic Hip-Hop albums and shine.

Doggystyle is still a top 5 album to be...but so is the Chronic.

I read a lot of these discussions but this is like the perfect argument on why The Chronic is better. It had more range as far as different styles beats as it was more of a producers album where Doggystyle was more taylor made for Snoop. The Chronic had the g-funk shit with the baselines & moog synths but it also had eastcoast style production shit on there too with the layered samples stacked on top of each other over hard drums. It's like he did beats on the Chronic that he couldn't do on Ruthless as they wouldn't fit with that NWA shit.

what beats on the chronic wouldn't work for NWA?

I couldn't picture them on none of the Chronic beats really. They style wouldn't fit the rhythem of those beats.
-
i'd see MC Ren shining on damn near any of those beats
esp Nigga with a gun, that sounds like a niggaz4life type of beat.
-
Yeah actually I can hear Ren on that & Lyrical Gangbang & maybe Eazy on Stranded on Deathrow.
