Title: Dr. Dre Originals
Post by: Lil Jay on February 06, 2005, 12:27:13 PM
I thought some of you might wanna hear some of the original tracks Dre sampled for some of his biggest hits he produced.... I was amazed at Hoboglabotribin', that shit sounds just like G'z & Huslaz (which became a classic just because of Snoops flow really)... these are only snippets

» George Clinton - Atomic Dog (Snoop Dogg - Who I Am? (What's My Name?) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010601.wma)
» Leon Haywood - I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You (Dr. Dre - Nuthin' But A G Thang)  (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010606.wma)
» David McCollum - The Edge (Dr. Dre - Next Episode) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010600.wma)
» Joe Cocker - Woman To Woman (2Pac feat. Dr. Dre & Roger Troutman - California Love) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010605.wma)
» Issac Hayes - Bumpy's Lament (Dr. Dre feat. Kurupt & Nate Dogg - Xxxplosive) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010604.wma)
» George Clinton - Mothership Connection (Dr. Dre - Let Me Ride) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010602.wma)
» George McCrae - I Get Lifted (Snoop Dogg - Gin & Juice) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010603.wma)
» Charles Wright And The Watts 103rd Street Rythm Band - Express Yourself (NWA - Express Yourself) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010599.wma)
» Rufus Thomas - The Breakdown (NWA - Kamurshol, Eazy-E - Easy-Er Said Than Dunn) (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010607.wma)
» Bernard Wright - Hoboglabotribin' (Snoop Dogg - G'z & Huslaz)  (http://westcoast2k.net/mm/drdre/10010598.wma)

awesome post! I had already heard a lot of the george clinton ones.  That g'z and hustlaz track, dre used that sample for the beginning but, once the hook starts he added a some more sounds to it.  So I guess the only original beats he did for doggystyle were the shiznit and lodi dodi.

Well listen to the beats he's made recently, he rarely samples now, and look how dope it is.  Besides who wasn't sampling in those days, at least he added stuff to a lot of those samples, he didn't just jack them, puffy style

Wasn't that bad- never pretended that they weren't samples (although disclosure wasn't the best)

Anyway, Dre has- on the whole- left sampling behind...unlike most.

Hey, I mean it is sampling, as long as it's done in a classy way & mixed properly, it's all good. The most obvious ones are the OG's for "G Thang" and "Gz & Hustlaz". These days, I gotta say though, I appreciate a fresh production, sample free. With the help of their musicians, few producers nowadays can put together a sick instrumental from scratch.
