Post by: Mr. Humonculous on February 08, 2005, 01:20:36 AM
Interview with Dre'sta

WorldWideConnected.com: What have you been up to recently?

Right now, I been in the streets right now, most recent, I just had me a beautiful little baby girl like 2 days ago, you know what I’m saying, I’m getting my blessings from god right now, Christmas time and chillin, but right now I’m in the streets doing my thing. We in the streets, phunkin the streets with these mixtapes and just taking it from the ground up and we gonna make sure that we get heard this time you know.

WorldWideConnected.com: Are you working on anything right now?

Yea, we got Dirty West mixtape volume 1, 2 and 3, volume 3 almost complete, we got Six Mill, we got, The Subway Volume 1, Six Mill’s mixtape we working on right now, which should be wrapping up, and I’m working on my album Dresta The Gangsta solo album which will be called The Ghetto Messiah, we working on the Young Hoggs album right now, as well as solo projects with The Young Hoggs, working on Six Mill’s project, we working on a lot of things, we doing a Compton unified mixtape, a compilation we working on right now, with me, The Young Hoggs, King T, Guerilla Black, Game, everybody gonna be on there.

WorldWideConnected.com: Who’s handeling the production for your album?

Right now, I got my boy named Ervan Pope, he does a lot of dope producing with Kanye West, and J Wellz, but he is really doing it big, like the overseer of my project, he is like my main producer, him and Six Mill, I got production from Jelly Roll, I got cats from everywhere, from Denmark, you know, just a lot of people man, a lot of different producers, I’m doing something with Rhythm D, who did Real Compton City G’s, I’m talking to my boy Robin Hood out the streets, just fucking with a lot of street cats, cats that’s real grinders, that’s real niggas you know what I’m saying.

WorldWideConnected.com: How did you first hook up with Eazy-E?

I been knowing E since I was in junior high school, I used to live on the next street from E, and that was before he was Eazy-E, that was when he was little Eric, you know what I’m saying, E already knew about what I was doing, and he was working on that Dr Dre 187 Killa album, and that album was done when I got there, but he had this one track, and he was like “Man I need somebody to get on there with me, Dre and them dissed me, and I’m tryna do a song back at them”, he gave me the track, put BG on there, came back the next day with a hit.

WorldWideConnected.com: Yea man that song is classic.

Exactly.

WorldWideConnected.com: What’s your relationship with former Ruthless artists like Big Hutch, MC Ren and all them cats?

Man you know, them my cats, them gon always be my cats, right now, I feel like there are a lot of cats that’s gon resurface through the Ruthless era because you know, Ruthless is officially shut down now, it’s like a lot of cats are just you know, grinding, stick to they guns and tryna, you know tryna be heard, it’s a lot of cats that don fell off, and they grinding, but I ain’t talk to Big Hutch lately, I got a lot of love for all them cats you know what I mean, but right I gotta be focused on Dresta you know what I mean, BG Knocc Out coming home next year, I’m just focused on Dresta, Young Hoggs and Industry Phunk right now.

WorldWideConnected.com: What are your feelings towards Snoop, Daz, and the DPG camp?

I mean shit, we alright, we still, you know, I ain’t seen them in a while, we squashed that beef in 98, 98 we squashed up all the little beef, you know, we felt we grew up and everybody started getting mature, so right now, I don’t have no evil feelings for them, a couple of them Kurupt and Daz, I really admire them cats, them my dogs, you know what I’m saying? I don’t really uh, I don’t go out my way to try to go and talk with people you know what I’m saying, just cause, we cool now whatever, I don’t go out my way to get on songs with everybody, if I get on songs with somebody it’s gonna be somebody I got love and respect for, you know what I’m saying? But me and Kurupt did a few things recently, so there’s gonna be some things out there sooner or later.

WorldWideConnected.com: Can you tell us exactly what happened at the golf course with Nate Dogg?

*Laughs* Man… the Def Jam video shoot, Montell Jordan, at the time we were signed with Outburst, so we had a deal through Def Jam, we was invited to the video shoot, and when we got there, we weren’t expecting no Dogg Pound and all them niggas to be here, but when we got there, it was me and my little brother, and there was about 15-20 Dogg Pound, and Nate Dogg tried to run my little brother, he didn’t try to run him but he tried to go a little too close to him, and my little brother just told him, “Nigga watch where you going”, and they had so many other cats, and it was just us 2, he tried to dump on him, play hard, jumped off the golf kart, and tried to throw feet at me and missed, and my little brother, walked over and knocked him out, you know what I’m saying, so I just told him “Man you don’t wanna fight me, my little brother just put you on your ass”, but you know, they did the Beef DVD, and they showed you bits and pieces, they didn’t show that all the stuff that had happened, there was more to that than what they shown, they just showed you all them cats running, you know what I’m saying, there was more to that than what they shown, I didn’t even consent to put that Beef DVD out, I was in prison, when they put that out, you know what I’m saying, but when I got out I found out it was QDIII that was involved with putting it out, so it is what it is, I look at it as promotion, that’s god’s way to keep Dresta name alive you know what I’m saying, after this incident happened that was all people were talking about, and that is something Eazy thought me a long time ago, as long as people talking about you, that’s all you want, don’t care if it’s talking bad or talking good, as long as they talking about you.

WorldWideConnected.com: What do you think about Dr Dre these days?

That’s a touchy subject man, it’s a touchy subject because it can go different ways with me, you know what I’m saying, I come from the era, I was raised on NWA, I was raised on Compton music, I was on that shit before NWA, I was making tapes in the streets in 86, in 85, you know what I’m saying, as a kid, so you know, when Dr Dre and Cube fell out and left NWA, I rolled with NWA, because I felt it was Compton you know what I’m saying. When Dre left Eazy, and went to Death Row, I wasn’t mad at him for what he was doing, but at the same time, when he went and dissed Eazy, I felt like he went ahead and diss Compton, u disrespecting the man that made it possible for all of us to eat, you know what I’m saying, he said his business wasn’t right or whatever, but he left Eazy and got fucked out of 300 million by Suge, you know what I’m saying, I mean, I respect Dre as a producer, as a engineer, as an ear for music, as a musician I respect the shit out of Dre, you know what I’m saying?

WorldWideConnected.com: Yea.

But I feel like Dre, is just, I think the monopolized him right now, I feel like they monopolizing, I mean, I’m not trying to get caught up in all that, I don’t want to hold no evil feelings towards nobody for what they do, they in they position if god wants them to be where they at right now you know what I’m saying, so my whole focus is, I don’t need Dr Dre to sell 1 million records, I don’t need Dr Dre to have a hot record on the streets, I got what it takes you know what I’m saying, my basic thing is like, I just shot a shot at Dre on my next mixtape, Volume 2 that will be coming out, I didn’t shoot no shot at him dissing him, I just said what the fuck is Dr Dre waiting on, you know what I’m saying, I know you hear it nigga, call me nigga, let’s clear it nigga, don’t think it’s about the money, I got the spirit nigga, you know what I’m saying, I’m shooting my little shots here and there to let the nigga know I’m paying attention, I know that ya’ll doing what ya’ll gotta do to keep a mutha fucka not heard, but now we figured this shit out and we know how to get in the streets and be heard, without no distribution, no nothing, so now the public and them peoples are going to be able to step up to the tapes and be like “This shit is fire, and we love that”, you know what I’m saying, basically we just in the streets right now trying to be heard, within the next 2 or 3 months, guaranteed the next 2 months, I will have over 100 songs from Dresta, The Young Hoggs and Six-Mill hittin streets with these mixtapes.

WorldWideConnected.com: You talk to BG Knocc Out recently?

Yea I talked to him recently, I just had his daughter at my house last night, that’s my little brother, he in the penitentiary for those that don’t know, he been there for about 8 years now, a little over 8 years you know what I’m saying, he got his mind right, he strong, he still young and healthy, and he ready to come in and knock some heads in with this rap sh*t, so basically what I’m doing is, I’m trying to set everything up for right now so give ya’ll something to look forward to, and how we gon be able to drop a Dresta solo project, a Young Hoggs project, a Six Mill project, a Dresta, Young Hoggs and Six Mill project, a BG Knocc Out project, a BG Knocc Out and Dresta project, you know what I’m saying, there is a lot of things we gonna be able to do in the next couple of years, we shutting it all up, by focusing on the streets, our main focus rightnow is the streets, our focus right now is the people in the streets.

WorldWideConnected.com: You and Knocc Out dropped a classic with Real Brothas, but that album is out of print right now, will you ever re-release it?

Yea, I’m looking into that right now, I will probably re-release it under Industry Phunk, with a few new tracks on it and everything, because I own the rights to it now, so it’s just like, I been trying to figure out what I want to do with it now, I will also put out a bootleg, a Dresta bootleg album which will have songs I did with other artists over the years, it will have all them songs on one album, as well as re-releasing Real Brothas, and I have like 2 videos that we shot for songs off Real Brothas, that we never put out, so we gon put these videos on our website and through DVD’s that we working on right now. We got videos for 50/50 Luv and a video for Compton Swangin’, that ain’t never been seen before.

WorldWideConnected.com: What’s up with you and Big Wy from Tha Relativez?

Big Wy, Big Wy, that’s one of my Blood cousins man, you know what I’m saying, right now, me and him ready to make green, and I been knowing Big Wy for a long time, and we always respect each other, ain’t never been no disrespect at all with us, it’s always been a respect thing, and he is just somebody that admires what I do, and I fuck with him because he fuck with me, he always been real with me you know what I’m saying, we both are kinda pushing towards the same common goals, and that’s just to be heard, not just to be heard, but to be heard all over the world, and niggas on the streets know that there is someone on these records that is representing them you know what I’m saying, it ain’t got to be a mutha fucka that fell from the sky, talking about they be woopti wah wah, but don’t nobody know them, don’t nobody tell you what they done, or where they grew up you know what I’m saying…

WorldWideConnected.com: Yea.

So we giving the streets someone that we know the streets is gon feel, mutha fuckas that’s been here and have been through the fire, my whole thing with me is, my whole album is, people are gonna see who Dresta is as a person, inside and out, right now, my aim is, that gang bangin, not so much of gang bangin’ but, at my black brothers in the streets, my black niggas that don’t know the truth, my whole thing is that I’m trying to spread the truth, just telling people that you don’t have to be out here killing each other just to make it somewhere.

WorldWideConnected.com: What’s up with The Young Hoggs?

Oh, The Young Hoggs doing they thang, we just did a big photo shoot and we gon’ be dropping some pictures for the next mixtapes, and you know, just getting they face, I want to get their face out there, as well as getting my face out there, so we got pictures, we got bands, we about to start rapping with the 28 inch spinners on them and all that, we trying to hit the streets hard, because we going on a promotional tour from New York all the way back down to LA, and we just doing our thang, we just getting in the streets.

WorldWideConnected.com: What do you think about the state of West Coast Rap right now?

Right now, I think West Coast Rap is at a beautiful position right now, and I think this whole industry is cycling, it leaves and it comes back, you know what I’m saying, it’s just like in life, everything has to come back from where it originated from, if you listen to West Coast music, West Coast music is so big now that it ain’t just West Coast artists doing West Coast Rap, you know what I’m saying, you listen to the 50’s, you listen to the T.I. and them down South, same thing for the East Coast you know what I’m saying, I think West Coast Rap kinda took over the industry without people seeing it, don’t nobody want to admit to it, but I think it has, and I think we at a beautiful position right now where there is cats that’s growing up and mature, and also with all these companies merging and firing and re-hiring people, there will be different people at the seats, so they will be able to get this thing moving you know what I’m saying, I think we at a beautiful position, I think the sooner we all realize that we got to come together in order to make it big, you know what I’m saying, that’s when we are going to be able to make it the way everybody wants it to be, til’ then you gonna have people that do it and people that don’t, the West Coast is so caught up on hatred, and hating each other that we don’t wanna see the next man get up, everybody wanna knock the next man down, so that they can shine, but they don’t know that we all gonna shine together, anybody that is meant to shine will shine anyway, you know what I’m saying, but it’s a lot of cats that ain’t dealing with real talent, a lot of them is gimmicks and other bullshit that can’t really bring any real talent to the table, you know what I’m saying, like right now on my mixtapes, I’m basically getting at the whole industry, you don’t want it let’s do it, I need this beef shit, I need that, because when I was doing it with Real Compton City G’s and all that, we were looked down as if we were doing something wrong, now it’s that cool to beat somebody on record now, so now I’m like fuck it, let’s take it back to the elements of you know, if you a rapper, you feel like you really do this, because I know I really do this shit, so if you a good rapper, come to the table, let’s do this shit on records, mixtapes whatever, let me get my little shine then I’ma go through the next step, if you don’t wanna do it like that, let’s just make something happen, I feel like, if you don’t feel what I’m saying right now, you against me right now, so I’m against you, if I’m talking about let’s get together and you ain’t with that, then you ain’t doing shit for this whole picture you know what I’m saying. As a whole, I think West Coast Rap just need to keep doing what we doing, I think right now, if we understood how much power we can have by cats helping the right cats get in the right position, we just got KDAY popping right now, KDAY is there to help support West Coast Rap, but we need to utilize these machineries, instead of utilizing them, one of us could get a break, or get something to pop, but instead of pushing for everybody to get pushed in the right light, everybody goes for their self you know what I’m saying, so West Coast Rap need a makeover, it really needs a makeover in a real way to where a lot of these cats is in the right position, and I ain’t just talking about the rappers, I’m talking about mutha fuckas, like, mutha fuckas in executive seats over here, they come from the streets out here on the West Coast, that ain’t doing nothing for the artists, and the artists don’t get heard right you know what I’m saying, my whole thing is, I think the West Coast is at a good position, if we matured and waking up and stop hating on each other I think we at a beautiful position.

WorldWideConnected.com: Who are you feeling the most from the West Coast right now?

It’s hard for me to say, I’m suck a fickle person, I’m not really a West Coast listener, I listen to everything, but then right now, I’m working on so many projects I don’t even like to listen to people’s music while I’m working, because I don’t wanna use what I heard on somebody else’s record, right now, I mean you really can’t see, The Game is hot, Eminem, the Encore is like the rawest song on the streets to me right now, but, I don’t know, seems like he is just getting away from West Coast East Coast, he is getting into music, because mutha fuckas ain’t just loving the Coasts right now, I mean New York New York, that song was popping right there, that was a good song for Ja Rule because he needs some of his street credibility back, but I think, Rap as a whole is a mature, it’s like all the young rappers are now the grown rappers kicking they feet up and shit right now, Jay-Z about to take over Def Jam, and we need shit like that to happen on the West Coast, but the cats that’s in the position to do shit like that either don’t have the business thing, or they just don’t wanna help anybody else get to the next level, a lot of these cats is scared of real talent, because they feel like that the real talent will come and drown them out, that’s why I surround myself with The Young Hoggs and shit like that, I associate myself with people that ain’t gonna do no bullshit or are half ass rapper, I don’t want no fillers on our shit, I want every song to be a banger.

WorldWideConnected.com: How do you feel about The Game?

Yea that’s my little homie, that’s another one of my Blood cousins, you know, some people don’t know, Mausberg R.I.P., me and Mausberg was gonna do a group album together before he got killed.

WorldWideConnected.com: Word?

It was going to be called The Blood Cousins, Dresta and Mausberg, it would be the first time a Compton Crip and a Compton Piru came together on a record, and did something like that, you know, Black Wall Street, I love them over there at Black Wall Street, I’m Compton til’ death man, I don’t care what side you claim, where you from, I know if you from Compton I’m with you for death.

WorldWideConnected.com: Yea I was about to ask you about Mausberg, because I know you were on Non Fiction, that track you did with him was hot.

Yea and if you see the way we did the song, that was our whole approach, just getting at the industry, young dude got killed, but you know, there is a reason for everything, but you can look out for, my first single might be a song called “Letter To My Homeboy”, and it’s a song dedicated to 2Pac, Eazy-E and Mausberg, it’s a beautiful song, and it might end up being the first single, I’m not sure right now.

WorldWideConnected.com: How do you feel about Lil Eazy?

That’s my nephew man, that’s family, we supposed to be doing more together, than what we been doing, I just been out of prison right now, 15 months, 16 months, so I’m just like getting back on my feet, and trying to do my thang, and he is doing his thang, but I know God gon put us together at the right time, what I really wanna do right now is, I know Lil Eazy doing his thang, but I really wanna set up a album with Dresta, BG Knocc Out and Lil Eazy.

WorldWideConnected.com: That would be dope.

Real Compton City G’s Reincarnated.

WorldWideConnected.com: What are your feelings on Guerilla Black?

Guerilla Black, I don’t really know dude, but I can’t really speak on it, and if somebody from their camp get to hear this interview or look up this interview, there is a busta in ya’ll camp cuzz that’s running his mouth, you know what I’m saying, I’m not gonna speak on his name, but the nigga know he is, the nigga ran his mouth and I almost took it out on Guerilla Black, you know, I’m from Compton, I been to Compton all my life, I’m 33 years old dawg, so if he from Compton, he said he from Compton, I should know somebody, that knows somebody, that knows somebody that knows him you know I’m saying, I haven’t really done my research yet, I’m asking questions, but recently I got a call from King T, telling me he talked to Guerilla Black, and him and Guerilla Black had a big conversation, and Guerilla Black gon bring more to the table and do more shit with Compton artists, but you know, I don’t know man, I can’t speak on Guerilla Black, all I gotta say is if God gave you the blessing to do whatever you do and you got God first in your life, then it’s meant for you to be there and doing what you doing, I can’t get mad at the dude, I’m more grateful for Game, and Guerilla Black and Spit Fiyah and all these other cats that got deals right now that from Compton, because that just shows you that it gives other niggas in Compton the opportunity to be someone in the rap game, because now all these other big labels will be saying “We need a Compton act, we need a Compton act”, you know what I’m saying, so I’m not mad at that, I think it’s good for Compton, I ain’t really gonna go no further into it, but it is what it is you know.

WorldWideConnected.com: Who would you like to work with in the game?

Right now, man my whole thing is, my main people I would like to work with right now is like Jay-Z, or Scarface, shit I’d love to do something with 50, I’d love to do something with Eminem, you know what I’m saying.

WorldWideConnected.com: What are your thoughts on the present Death Row camp right now, because I know you did some stuff with Suge a while ago.

I mean, me and Suge were always cool man, even when Real Compton City G’s was out, me and Suge were sitting down having dinner you know what I’m saying, but, when I went to prison this time, Suge did some talking on me when I wasn’t around, that I didn’t appreciate, and I don’t fuck with Suge because of that, you know what I’m saying, but I don’t really have hate towards the Death Row camp, I mean he got cats over there that don’t rap that I got love for, a whole lot of love for and got love for me, I think Suge can be a powerful dude, he a powerful dude, as far as the name, but I think he can get his name back right if he uses his money and his mind and his time right. Suge could have had Dresta over there, I could have been at Death Row, if the money would have the been right you know what I’m saying, but at the time, he was in jail, and when we were working the money wasn’t right, right now, I can’t see myself going to Death Row or fucking with Death Row, I don’t have animosity towards the camp though, I got love for a lot of cats that’s over there.

WorldWideConnected.com: Where would you see yourself right now if you never met Eazy?

If I had never met Eazy?

WorldWideConnected.com: Yes.

Shit, ain’t no telling where I would be right now dawg, I mean I know I had problems like that, but Eazy gave me the opportunity to be heard, in the creative name, without that name I’d be nothing, I’d be in the hood probably gang banging right now, getting more bullets put into my body.

WorldWideConnected.com: Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

10 years from now? 10 years from now man, shit I’ll be 43 man I’ma be sitting on a big ass yacht somewhere in the ocean, my dream is to have a studio on a yacht, so I can do my album on the ocean, I just think that’ll be a nice and tranquil place to go and record, so that’s where I see myself in 10 years, producing acts and develop acts and running a company.
