I have girls in my classroom. Well, the other day we had a discussion about music and all 3 girls I was talking to said they love Drop It Like It's Hot and Let's Get Blown. So I told them that these 2 songs are not half as good as Snoop's previous work, especially not Drop It Like It's Hot. I told em to download previous Snoop Dogg albums, but they were like "no, cause these are the only good songs by Snoop". I'm like WHAT THE FUCK, Doggystyle is seen by many as the greatest album ever and you claim you don't even like songs like Who Am I and Gin & Juice? The saddest part of this story is that these girls are good examples of how people (or actually girls in general) look at rap nowadays: they refuse to listen to older music and they only listen to what is 'served' to them.
R.I.P. rap fans all over the world :'(

i had the same discussion with someone today
he told me the only snoop song he love was drop it like it's hot and he added that's probably the only reason i'm going to snoop concert
so i told him give the ticket to some fans or people who know more about him(i suggest him to give it to me :) ) and the sad part is he didn't even go to the concert
i could have been at snoop concert right now... :(

thats what girls think all around, they go with popular music, what ever the radio plays and what ever is on mtv thats what they like. theres very few down bitches who would like old west coast shyt...
-
Alot of boys are like this too.
-
thats very true there are a lot of lames who would rather hear lil jon or sum other trendy shyt than to hear the classics...
-
you should have put it in their butts
-
you should have put it in their butts
wtf? wat does that have to do with wat hes talkin about?
-
responding to the discussion, i know exactly wat ur talkin about. but whenever i talk to most people about rap music i assume they feel that way about the music, its hard to imagine some girls that probly listen to mostly pop music appreciating a good album like doggystyle or other classis like the chronic, etc.
-
^ doggystyle, ::), duh..
-
Alot of boys are like this too.
-
yea, thats the way it is with POP music
'drop it like its hot' may be rhythmic, but not gangsta at all!
its a pop song.
and it had some success in the charts, mtv etc... and ppl who like listen to pop get their opinion from the charts
i know A LOT of those ppl, and they buy whatever is played on MTV and the radio
thats what they like
and they completly doenst understand why im listening to the music i listen to
they are just not open for something thats not played in the charts - even when its good
they dont know the difference between good and crap music
the two categories they have are: in the charts and not in the charts
sad, but thats the way it is :(
and i feel very sorry for those ppl, who listen to the charts
btw.: wanna know how to find such ppl?
whenever you ask someone: so what kind of music do you like?
"ufff, i mostly listen to everything - nothing special"
whats your fav. artists??
... that person will count now the artists of the top ten songs of the charts...
and thats no bullshit - its true! ::)
-
^ doggystyle, ::), duh..
-
Bitches have no common sense. But i dont care, theres not one decent female rapper out there.
Girls just listen to whatever is catchy
-
give em some disturbing sounds as a new hitsingle wit some random music video and after a while of some heavy mtv rotation they will love it and bump it and bump it.
they won't check for older shit cause there's no point for them to do it, it's not about dope music, it's about bumping the newest hit
it's sad but it's been that way
-
'drop it like its hot' may be rhythmic, but not gangsta at all!
It's not about being a song 'gangsta'. I don't give a shit whether a song is gangsta or not, as long as it sounds nice. It's just... Drop It Like It's Hot is not even a tenth as good as for example G'z And Hustlaz and they refuse to even check for it!
-
its not sad for me, i could care less what bitches listen to as long as they get down.

Sad, but true...
Also the other day I was at my sister's house and was talking to my 14 year old neice. She's always listened to Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, etc shit like that....She has never liked rap.
Well, I was looking at her CD's and she had the regular kinda shit that I just mentioned, but she also had Snoop's last 2 albums (PTC and R&G). I asked her: Snoop? She said: Yeah he puts out good music now. Now I know that most of my friends like the old Snoop and hate the last two albums----Seems opposite with the younger generation. :'(
-
i had kind of a similar situation. the other weekend i was with some homies and i was bumpin sum quik and they were like "lets turn this garbage off. You have any g unit?" i wa slike yeh i have g unit but im not turning this off. 8)

that shit happens all the time in america
-
well nobody I hang out with really likes anything new by snoop dogg, but they all like doggystyle. but I do know what you mean, its them younger fools that just ain't knowin.
-
depends who u talk to and depends how long they been listenin 2 music, most girls i kno like snoops old school songs like gin n juice, whats my name, etc but it all depends on who they are, where there from (obviusly a ghetto girl and rich agirl are gunna have differant answers) and how long they been listenin 2 rap
-
i fuckin hat egirls like that too they will listen to whatever they hear in the clubs and shit no real fans and shit and fingazz that is on sarkastic's jmg cd cover is a bad motherfucking producer but that is a diferent story. RIp to all the real Gangsta rap fans. damn :'(
-
I guess time has really changed. How anyone could like Snoop's latest albums over his old ones is beyond me.
Oh well.... Their loss as far as I'm concerned. 8)
-
They listen to this cuz it's in the charts!!!This is the probleme, they don't listen to this cuz they like Snoop, or something like this, no they listen to it cuz it's popular at the moment. Popular=Pop. By the way i think "Drop it like it's hot is" is a pop-song, not cuz it's in the charts but cuz it isn't gangsta!
-
the other day i was talking to this girl about going to a game concert
and shes like oh is 50 gonna be there i was like no its just a club show
and shes like oh well it wont be that good hes needs 50 to do his songs
i almost smacked the bitch right across the face right then and there
-
Well, maybe old school hardcore rap just doesnt appeal to some?
I mean, so its commercial....its appealing to the majority.
I've tried to get my gf to listen to Masta Ace and Immortal Technique, but she loves Ja Rule and Ashanti.
Rap, no matter what, is rap, as long as its getting continual exposure, so be it.
I listened to all of Gang Starr's latest stuff before i go to Step In Da Arena.
To be honest with you, i liked A moment Of Truth a lot more than Step in Da Arena.
But its just everyone's different musical preference.
-
Now what's exactly the problem? They don't like old rap? Every time they're playing songs like Pac's "California love" or House of Pain's "Jump around" in the club, everyone's going crazy. Maybe Snoop's old shit is just a bit too 'real' for the average pop audience to like it. In fact, I like "Drop it like it's hot", I won't deny. It's nothing gangsta or whatever, but it's a good song.
I guess Snoop is making good marketing moves. It seems his newest albums really are popular to the modern pop-audience. He's just doing whatever sells best. I know for sure these people at your school wouldn't like songs like "Murder was the case" if they heard it today. They're not used to it, but let them be that 'ignorant' if that's how they want to be. Just keep in mind you're being a lot more special, since you're deciding for yourself what to like instead of just listening to whatever pop garbage is hot at the moment.
-
maybe the older stuff you listen to just doesnt hold up today. you love it cuz you were there when it dropped. i've been listen to hiphop for over fifteen years, but back then when i heard whodini or Afrika Bambaataa, i was like, 'what the fuck is this?' some things just dont age well.

doggystyle is as catchy as you can get, so that's not the problem. they really don't give a shit about the lyrics, if they can even understand the lyrics at all.

I have girls in my classroom.
:o

I dunno maybe some of you guys are just way too young. I have never seen a girl that didn't go crazy over Ain't No Fun at a club/bar/party.

Well, man the first thing you gotta realize is that music is entirely subjective. That's just how it's going to be, these girls are NOT going to listen to Doggystyle, because they just don't want to.
Second, you cannot hear ALL the good music in the world, man there's been album after album after album of good stuff come out for decades, none of us know much about the entirety of good music... so even suggesting 1 album is like a drop in the ocean, you can't get too worried about it.
Third, if you DO get mad at them for being ignorant about his earlier work, you're being hypocritical. Musicians have been making great music since the days of Bach & Mozart, and every generation ignores the music of the past and focuses on the music of their era. That's just how it is... it takes an amazing amount of talent for any artist or musician to stand out and pass the test of time, Snoop & Doggystyle, no matter how good they are, will not be talked about 200 years from now... he'll be forgotten.
-
People I know, like his old music, understand why it was so popular. However, when your at a party, Drop it like it's hot is well... whats HOT right now. Granted, if nuthing but a g thang comes on, the crowd will always love it, but you can't expect everyone to know every snoop song. You may not like NSync, but I bet a lot of people here could at least sing one Nsync song if it came on. When your drunk, high or whatever... if a catchy song comes on, you'll start singing... Drop it like it's hot is catchy. And yes, this song will be considered a Snoop classic...
plus there girls man. a girl never takes her music seriously. they tune into top 40 and that's it

I'll be straight up honest with you about this one. When I first heard the whole Doggystyle album (which was not in 1993 because back then I didn't even have any cd's or whatsoever, I guess I'm just too young) I only liked like half of the songs. Think of songs like "Tha shiznit", "Lodi dodi", "Serial Killa" and "Pump Pump" I didn't like back then. They just had to grow on me. They weren't funky enough or laid back enough in my ears to instantly like them, but damn sure I like them now. Same will go for the girls in your class. Put on Tha Shiznit and most likely none of them will like it. Just because you're a 'hardcore rap lover' doesn't mean they are. It will either have to grow on them, or they might not ever get to like it. Don't hate them for that, they didn't actively see the G-Funk era rise and all that. They're living now and they like "Drop it like it's hot". I guess I'm just special for liking music from back when I was only 3 years old, music I never grew up to. You can't really say The D.O.C. blew up huge in the Netherlands in 1989, can you? It's just, most people don't care enough to peep older albums from artists who have been around for a while now, they like now. That shouldn't be making you sick though.

its not sad for me, i could care less what bitches listen to as long as they get down.
DEEEEEEEEEZ NUTZ
hahaha

yea it seems like a lot of girls arent as serious music as guys, its a sad generalization, even though i know a couple girls that are into music as much as me, but most, as the dude said, listen to the top 40, and consider themselves open minded about music casue they like nsync and nelly..
and btw, jsut in case yall give a fuck, its kinda of funny, the 1st time i heard doggystyle, like 2 years ago, lol i know, i loved it , and then like the more i bumped it, the more i loved it, i listened to the chronic, and exept nuthing but a g thang, it was ok, a lil too gangsta for me, i didnt understand it, cause the snoop is a lot more easy listening, but now, after listeing to the chronic sooo many times, i like it a lot more than doggystyle, but both are 2 of my fav rap cds..

Wow, you never heard doggystyle or chronic, until 2 years ago? I saw in another thread that you have never heard daz RR&GB. And you go into countless threads asking who very well known rappers are. I'ma bet that you became a fan of rap when eminem became popular.

I think the giveaway line when talking to a girl about music is "I like a bit of everything", once they say that you know they are just into whatever is hot in the charts. However, if they are really hot and you're in a club, what do you care what she likes, and long as shes shaking her ass to it. Its only really if if i'm looking to have a long term relationship with someone that chart music preference would ever put me off someone.
