Title: records sales dont mean shit!!!!
Post by: koolnutz on March 02, 2005, 08:18:05 PM
i dont understand why some rap fans put so much emphasis on the amount of records a artist sells. that seems to be important to kids now. it was cool if a artist sold alot of records, but back in the day what mattered was how good the album was and comercial  artist were dissed.  mc hammer and vanilla ice sold alot of records, probably more then most artist do now, but that dont mean shit they both suck!!! i put 50 cent and eminem in the same category as mc hammer and vanilla ice. Even snoop fell the fuck off, putting justin timberlake on his record?what kind of shit is that??? that would have been a no no, back in the day.....

Man some of the best rap groups of all time never even went gold. but fuck it, i dont listen to the radio or watch mtv. Alot of these rappers  going platinum sound all the same, so somebody out there is biting peoples styles, biting was a no no back in the day too, but now it seems to be acceptable! ???

peace

it gets me off. if a record dont sell more than gold that i aint gettin off. if it went plat. i feel real good. if it goes 2x or more than i gotta smoke the whole pack afterwards. and if it goes 10+ then i almost go into a coma afterwards. thats why people care about sales. (or just me)

You can sell records without being commercial. Look at E.1999 Eternal that sold what, 6 million?
There was not one song on their ment to be commerical to sell out. That album only had hardcore cuts on it(Mo Murda,Shots 2 the Double Glock, E.1999, Down 71, Land of the Heartless, ect...).  I know times have changed, but sometimes(not anymore) album sales mean that it was a good album.

yes they do. they determine whether an artist will be kept on the label, how many videos they will get, but they dont determine how nice someone is.

Well, if you're a fan of some artist, you wish him all the luck. So you'll be happy for that person if he sells lots of records.
