Before everybody starts to disagree with me this is MY personal opinion. In terms of beats, rhymes, flow, content and substance this album has no or very little competition. For those of you who have not heard the album before, I highly recommend that you check this out. You will not be disappointed...Peace

That's a pretty big statement Donald
-
ok
-
I've never heard the album and I'm going to tell you your opinion is wrong.

Well as long as your post makes sense,C2!
-
i'd put Guerilla Funk over it for sure..
-
still rasist? if not i'll check the album anyway he's good
-
It's an album with a strong message. You can like it or not. But in no way it's "the best westcoast album ever created", cmon.

Someone please give me a legitimate record put out by another artist that is better than Sonic Jihad...and explain why

Devin The Dude- The Dude
why? becuase he talks about getting high and drunk with friends, mackin bitches, and boo boo'n
-
Yeah, the Devin cd is amazing but it definately doesnt touch Jihad. The Dude has a few songs which are intelligent but not an entire 16 track album's worth.
-

For real? I love that album as well but its a little short IMO

The Chronic is an entertaining album and had a huge impact on westcoast hiphop. I'll give you that...but does it make you think about anything substantial(minus Lil Ghetto Boy)? Does it bring truth to the hip hop game and the world? Does the album mobilize your thought process? The bottom line is IT DOESN'T. Go listen to the album before you comment, C2!

I can't disagree with you because I have not heard the TQ album yet. Unlike C2Kuckles, I don't form opinions on albums before I hear them. But anyway, Mauzip, what about a rapper with an album better than Sonic Jihad?

I understand what you mean, man. But the fact is that this album, like i said, got a strong message. But it's not the Bible. It's Paris' opinion. So you can agree with it or not. But i agree it's not an "empty" album. It has a message. It's def an album to listen to and to discuss about.
-
am i the only one that doesn´t think that Sonic Jihad is Paris´ best album? :-\

I've never heard the album and I'm going to tell you your opinion is wrong.
i love this guy....lol

Don't be a fucking moron. Although I'm setting a pretty big challenge for you here. Still.
Maybe, some people just care for the fucking music and not for the lyrics. Or let's say, for the overal sound, instead for some over-the-top left wing politics. I don't know what the fuck you were trying to achieve with your post. 'Cause you aren't right.
Oh yeah, and you caring for deep political issues does not make you any better than people that don't.

Let me get this straight. I'm the fucking moron because I appreciate music with substance to it? This album is not just about Left wing politics, it's about life and the issues that shape it. I don't buy cd's just because I like a certain beat...That's what most females do. If you aren't listening to the lyrics than apparently you're not a true fan of hip-hop. And by the way I never said I was better than anyone else for caring about political issues, but you making the last post you did is making me feel otherwise towards people like yourself.

2Pac - All Eyez On Me
2Pac - Me Against The World
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - E. 1999 Eternal
^^the 3 best rap albums
-
in my opinion. sonic jihad is a good album, but it's nowhere near it's predecessors the devil made me do it and sleeping with the enemy.
paris' discography is full of solid records, though. i love his work. :D
-
Sonic Jihad is in the top 7 of west coast album in the last decade. The album was a Fresh Air to me, I remember the First Paris Album I got Bush Killa and that blew my mind. But Sonic Jihad had hard rhymes with a straight killa kali beatz with a message. Every head from L.A. to The Bay should have that album.
-
To some, an entertaining album is grounds for it being a good album. To me, I don't need messages in my music when I'm listening. I listen to music mainly to relax.
-
Donald, atleast someone at this forum is giving props and respect to Paris for staying real while the rest of these rappers just stay real dumb! Paris is old school, he's from the generation that believed that hip-hop could be entertaining and still be very political and even educational.
Yo.. but Donald, you challenged everyone to present a West Coast album superior to Sonic Jihad, you said "The Chronic" wasn't superior because the Chronic didn't elevate and uplift your mind, well what about Rass Kass "Soul On Ice"?
-
Ice Cube - Amerrikaz Most Wanted
Although the statement Donald started this topic with was pretty controversial (some would have said plain wrong), and certainly open to debate, some of the people who have replied have just come up with stupid suggestions of better albums. I mean comon Mauzip, TQ? You even listed the fact that he had four videos as if that was some indication of it being better than Sonic Jihad. Now I personally don't even think Sonic Jihad is Paris's best, or near being the best westcoast album ever, but Donald is entitled to his opinion, and at least hes backing it up with legitimate arguments, which is more than can be said for most of the topics on this forum claiming artists/albums are classics, and top five of all time, etc.
-
Don't forget, "The Chronic" was actually very political. Dre says in the album, "No Medallions, No Dreadlocks, No Blackfists/.... it's just that gansta shit!", which to me is saying that the streets were fed up with being conscious, and that it was time to start busting guns.
At the time of it's release, racial tension and violence was boiling over on the West Coast, the Rodney King trial and the LA riots were hot topics at that time, as evident in Dre's track "The Day The Niggaz Took Over", the theme to this song is the LA riots! In that song there is a line, "Break the white man off somethin lovely/ I don't love them so them can't love me". Lyrics like this were prevelent throughout the Chronic album, and could even be considered as lyrics with the potential of inciting a riot, this is no small thing, a riot is civil war.
-
The Chronic is the greatest westcoast album ever. There is no questions. It set up everything that made the westcoast the dominate coast. Also N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton and 2Pac - Me Against the World and Makaveli are all very strong CDs that can uplift, entertain and start revolutions with.
Paris is a great choice to bring to the table in terms of arguments, but in westcoast hip-hop, it's the same as the NBA, we all Jordan is the greatest, all there is now is an argument over who's the best. Same with westcoast rap, there will never be nothing greater than the Chronic, but the battle for 2nd is still a great argument.
-
Sonic Jihad isn't even Paris' best album, I'd put The Devil.. Sleeping.. and Guerilla Funk over it.
-

I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from in terms of artists that actually bring something to the table. About Ras Kass's Soul on Ice album...I agree that with that album he stands out from damn near eveyone else but the entire album IMO doesn't match up to Paris's. To everyone else that replied(good or bad, agree or disagree)thanks and keep them coming.
-
sonic was a cool album yea but i wouldnt even place it in my favorite top 10 westcoast albums. guerilla funk was even better. btw no1 and no2 are chronic and doggystyle.
-
yo.. A.G.... devin the dude is from the south!
