Here it is new article about the Revolution and more coming to the DS....WI-FI!!!!!!!!!!!
Nintendo President Outlines Bold Vision To Attract New Audiences To Video Games
Mar 10, 2005
Game Developers Conference Attendees Hear First Details about 'Revolution,' Upcoming Wi-Fi Service for Nintendo DS
SAN FRANCISCO, March 10, 2005 – Thousands of video game developers in a standing-room-only crowd today heard Nintendo President Satoru Iwata outline the company’s bold vision for the future. Iwata, a veteran video game designer and player himself, made several major announcements during his Game Developers Conference keynote speech, "The Heart of the Gamer," including such highlights as:
---Nintendo’s next game console, code-named "Revolution," is proceeding on schedule and will include both backward compatibility and Wi-Fi features.
---Nintendo soon will offer a free Wi-Fi connection service to Nintendo DS owners.
---Iwata demonstrated several new software titles using the innovative features of the Nintendo DS, including voice recognition, touch-screen control and wireless connectivity.
---Iwata unveiled new images from the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda adventure coming this year for Nintendo GameCube.
"This is Nintendo’s plan: make our existing game world better," Iwata said. "For us, this is a passion. This is a mission of adventure."
Revolution: Iwata announced that Revolution will feature built-in Wi-Fi protocols, which will allow users around the world to connect with one another wirelessly. Revolution’s technological heart, a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway," and a graphics chip set from ATI code-named "Hollywood," are being designed to deliver game experiences not possible to date.
"We’re excited to be developing the graphics chip set for Revolution, which continues our longstanding relationship with Nintendo," says Dave Orton, ATI Technologies Inc.’s president and chief executive officer. "As the leading graphics provider, ATI is committed to delivering exceptional visual performance that enables consumers to interact with new and visually compelling digital worlds. ATI is proud to support Nintendo’s innovative contributions to gaming."
Nintendo DS: Iwata announced that the Wi-Fi protocol for Nintendo DS will provide users with a link to other players across the country or around the world. Once the service begins later this year, Nintendo DS users will be able to connect to the service wirelessly at Wi-Fi hot spots, whether they’re at home, in a hotel or at a coffee shop. As one of several Wi-Fi games, Nintendo’s in-house development team is creating a new Animal Crossing game for global Wi-Fi play.
On the keynote stage, Iwata also took part in a spontaneous eight-player wireless contest of Mario Kart DS to demonstrate the local area network capabilities of Nintendo DS. He added that shipments of the DS game system have now surpassed 4 million units to North America and Japan in the 16 weeks since launch. With the system set to debut in thousands of stores across Europe within hours of his address, that number will approach 6 million units shipped by the end of March.
DS software: The speech featured a live demonstration of two Nintendo DS software titles that Iwata said represented types of entertainment that go beyond the traditionally accepted definitions of "video games." One, Nintendogs, asks owners to nurture and interact with a variety of breeds of digital puppies. Puppy owners can issue voice commands, play games and train their puppies while developing real emotional bonds with them. Nintendogs is set to launch later this year in North America. The second title, Electroplankton, offers an otherworldly array of sights and sounds aimed to soothe or stimulate players with the innovative use of both the touch screen and voice interaction. "This is designed to produce harmony, not adrenaline," Iwata said.
Zelda: Iwata wowed the crowd by showing previously unreleased footage of the stunning Legend of Zelda adventure for Nintendo GameCube. The game will launch later this year, and is expected to be the most sought-after game of 2005 on any console. To see the video, http://www.zelda.com/universe/.
Nintendo will announce more information about both Revolution and the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi service at the Electronics Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles in May.

I doubt it dude, EA Games engineers who have access to developer kits & specs for all the 3 consoles, say that PS3 will most likely blow X2 and NR out of the water, due to the mindblowing hardware called "Cell" and other extra features, and Sony isn't known to slack on the software side..
They say it will be 10x more powerful than the most powerful consumer desktop PC today. :o
EA Games isn't biased either + they're number 1 on games in the world, they usually know what they're talking about.
X2 sounds sick as well though, NR is just a ?-mark yet..
As for shitting on Sony, I think we will see when PSP rolls out in big numbers/promotion, with movie titles and PS2 graphics, I think it will 0wn DS..

only time will tell.

from what i read EA has development kits for nintendo and microsoft, and not ps3...and they're just speculating that since sony is still working on the system that it should be more powerful
this news came out before the recent Xbox 2 announcements....that EA rep went on to say that the PS3 processor will run at about 4.something Ghz... microsoft has announced that they're multi processors will be able to run over a teraflop of data
advantage...Xbox

Graphics Graphics Graphics. The graphics don't need to get much better, gameplay is where the revolution needs to be.

processing power is directly related to gameplay... they can't do 0.000001% of the things they currently do without stepping up the processing power of the systems... if you want a more realistic world that you can immerse yourself in, you need processing power... imagine all the people that can be put into a world like grand theft auto now that the processing power has been multiplied 10 fold.
gameplay and graphics are to a game just like lyrics and music are to a song... sometimes they can be a little bit off and you can still have a good experience...but if one is off by two much, the product sucks
-
I totally, 100% disagree with that. Chess is by far more entertaining than 95% of the videogames out there, and it's just moving little figures around on a board. You know why kids don't play chess, though? ... because of all the advertising dollars, and peer influences telling them which games to play.
-
i think graphics are important, however i wouldnt base it on which system is the best.
To me
Amount of Great games > Graphics
-

LOL. I love it Trauma unlocks the secrets to the unviverse. Hey Trauma ; Who killed Kennedy?
I guess I was the only 6 year old who legitimately enjoyed playing Mario and Zelda instead of Chess and shuffle board. Everyone else was brainwashed. Wait, maybe I was too. :o Noooooooo!!!!!!!
-
chess is awesome. plus it has more replay value then zelda and mario

For a 6 year old?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C'mon man. Be realistic. Some things are for different times in your life. When you are a little kid you like any TV show that's a cartoon, and play with blocks. When you get older you like other shows and need more adavnced items to entertain you. Casablanca is ten times the movie Scarface is, tell that to an average 14 year old.
I love chess. I just don't think any little kids would have more fun playing it than video games. (outside of Bobby Fisher and every other child prodigy)
-
You totally missed my point, and besides, I said 95 percent, bitch. Of Course Mario & Zelda are in the top 5% of Video Games. Hey, do me a favor: Stay the fuck out of threads I reply to, and get off my nuts.

Just because I humorously reply to your absurd claims does not mean I'm on your nuts. You may have said 95% of games, but that wasn't the point I was making. At 6 years old I liked Gyromite better than chess, (and that game sucks), because I was young. Kids don't like videogames more than chess because of advertising dollars. They like them better because they're aimed at kids. Chess is not. If you replace chess with comic books then you'd have a logical argument.

fuck nentendo, microsoft- stick to windows. its all about sony playstation 3

And let's not forget..
BLU-RAY discs.. PS3 will have Blu-ray discs, which can hold 25GB on a single layer disc, and 50GB on a dual layer..
Now THAT'S more than enough space for crazy soundtracks, High-Definition gfx, and HD movies, extras, trailers, demos, etc.
X-Box will use 9GB dual layer DVD's, it might be enough today, but I can picture Blu-Ray having a big ass advantage in 2-3 years when Blu-Ray takes gradually over for DVD, and BR-players become common. If BR really becomes successful and gets inc. in PC's, with poss. for burning BR on your comp, then it's game over.

::) honestly....how much do you think people are willing to put on a blu ray disc? we already know musicians can for about 400 songs in mp3 format on a cd but they will never even use that... to think a movie needs 50 gb is crazy
-
and honestly i used to like chess when i was in middle school but i've found games that were alot better and had more strategy than chess
take Worms world party for example...
you might like this game trauma.... the graphics are only adequate but the gameplay lasts forever.... i had a whole US Naval ship addicted to this game and was even able to talk to the LAN administrator to put this game on the LAN so all can play on the ship
-
I still play my PS2 way more than my Lame Cube.

Bill Gates, XX years ago: "15MB should be enough for everybody to last forever."
Trust me when I say that 20+ GB will be needed in future discs, if you're American you should know about a little thing called HD-TV...
DVD's today are compressed, the future craves big ass TV's with high fucking definition, and that demands space.

but there's two other technologies that are similar/better than blu ray and sony usually has a habit of making useless technology... minidisc, a certain type of dvd r disc, umd....
anyways, the need for a new type of media is stupid right now... just like how musicians don't even use up all of a cd, videogame makers don't use up a dvd.... and rarely does a movie need more than one disc unless you want 5 different versions of the director saying stupid shit about his movie
-
plus you should look at more of the new technology taht's coming out instead of hopping on a bandwagon Jome...
Mpeg 4 format will allow compression of a HD movie to fit on a dual layered DVD
this one company has designed a hybrid of dvd with dvd on one said and HD dvd capabilities on the other, without the need for a new player
then you have Blu ray which is only backed by Sony, disney and Fox while...
HD DVD is backed by most of the other movie studios such as Paramount, Universal, New Line and Warner Bros... both of these formats will require new players and neither will be compatible with each other but they will be backwards compatible for regular dvds
Finally Jome....since you think bigger is better you should check out HVD being developed in japan... these disc are the same size of a dvd but can hold 100 Gb to 1 Tb of data and will be availible in 2007
but anyways...games have yet to surpass the DVD phase and movies have no need yet to pass the DVD either, it's just companies want you to buy the latest thing that they tell you is the best... all i know is with Blu ray players selling in Japan for over $2,000, the price tag on the PS3 won't be pretty
-
Since tha PS2 was released people have been anticipating tha PS3...........i wanted a PS2 but i didn't get one i'll wait for tha PS3 i'm sure that shit will be real, real, real expensive :(

he's just saying it's really popular around here.... but it really isn't... i don't know too many people that really care about HD... My cable provider sends most of the channels in HD but i just don't watch that much TV to run out and get an HD TV

We all know that Blu-Ray will become mainstream, and priced about the same as DVD is now, DVD was pricey as fuck back then too..
With Sony, MS, etc. behind it, and PS3 in full effect, BR will become cheaper and cheaper.
Btw, Compression means that you're taking away quality, that will never be the best solution: The more compression, the worse quality.
And nobody is jumping on any bandwagon, it's just that having 25/50GB discs on hand is a helluva stronger card than dual-layer DVD..
HD-TV is coming more and more, people want better pictures, bigger TV's, and better sound.
Dunno if it's the poor American economy that keeps people from buying HD-TV's, but it's coming everywhere..., slow but steady.

it's not the economy, no one sees the use of it... it's pretty much just being forced upon the public, i honestly don't know a single person thats craving HD everything
the only thing taht sucks is this batter between HD DVD and Blu Ray... if you look at the two sides, they are pretty evenly matched moneywise... i for one am not in the rush to go out and buy a blu ray disc player or a hd dvd player only to find out that it's on the losing side
-
another thing i kinda don't get is why microsoft supports blu ray, but xbox 2 isn't going to use it.... i know it would be buying the oppositions technology, but that happens all the time (shit my sony computer has panasonic and toshiba parts in it)
it's just going to suck buying these $300 - $500 game systems and having 3 different techonologies
-
nintendo is too soft to shit on anything
