What an incredibly violent film, lol.....but still a great movie. I always liked Brazil and wanted to go there but after watching this, I don't know man, lol.
I liked how the movie was done, Rocket being the main character and telling the stories of all these people, that was nice. Oh and one of the most disturbing scenes ever had to be when they caught the 2 kids and put them in the corner and shot them in the foot and etc.. wow that was fucked. Li'l Zé was one fucked up guy.
"City of God's" final part, a gang war involving a character named Knockout Ned (Seu Jorge), is where the film gets to be wearing. Personality becomes unimportant, the violence level escalates to the point of exhaustion and the whole project suffers from, pardon the pun, overkill.
Exactly^^ but since this is based on a true story, I think the director is just trying to open up this whole world of poverty and violence to the rest of the world and let everyone know that this is something major. And at the end of it we really see that there won't be a complete end to it after Li'l Ze is dead and this is a continuing cycle which is really sad. Go rent it, buy it, whatever...me personally I own this on DVD.

Its a extremely good film, I liked the way it was structured and it was also very well directed. The offshoot tv series "City of Men" is also worth picking it for anyone that enjoyed the film.

But yeah Brazil is pretty dangerous still man... Ive been robbed 3 times since I got here in August. Once this guy robbed me with his gun and took my Air Foce Ones that I bought in the US and he took my fucking Cell Phone and Wallet. The other 2 times it was only some spare change that I had. But man ive seen alot bad shit since ive been here... shootings, robberys, and all kinds of shit. To all the badside of Brazil theres a good side. We got the Hottest women in the world, beautiful beaches and cities, good food and plenty of other stuff.
'Cidade de Deus'(city of god) took place in a 'favela' (basically a slum) called 'city of god',and yes its a true story. But warning....Not all of Brazil is like that though lol...Thats only in the Favelas but theirs still some crime in the middleclass and rich nieghborhoods.

Believe me man, It's worth your hard earned money if you decide to buy it.
But some people always gets turned off with foreign films because of the subtitles but it's still worth checking out.

this is definitely one of my favorite movies. It had me glued from start to finish with all the amazing acting, story, and great directing. It's definitely worth buying if you're into that kind of shit. i guess you can sorta compare this to Goodfellas because the story stretches over a long period of time and is told from 1st person view like Goodfellas is. Also there is a LOT of killing

yea i bought that shit, cause its release was a lot later in usa then the rest of the world, and niggas was talking about it on here, and i was hyped , so as soon as i saw it, i bought it, 1 of my fav dvds

I used to go to Blockbuster to try and rent it but it was always checked out so i said fuck it i'll just go buy it on dvd.
Last week i went to Blockbuster (Haven't been there for awhile) and guess what? All their City Of God copies were checked out.

that movie is the shit! a couple of friends and me watched it when we were stoned as fuck we didn't understand it one bit though but we still knew what was going on.....great movie
