Title: Some car stereo help/advice
Post by: Sikotic™ on March 23, 2005, 02:48:23 PM
Aight, so being the cheap ass that I am, I bought a bunch of used CD changer parts and got that shit to work. I had the shit installed but turns out the muthafucka installed it wrong and now my original 92 audio stereo no longer functions properly. I went in and got the radio to work, but now I don't have a fuctioning CD player.

So basically fuck the CD changer and fuck the stereo, I wanna buy a new stereo head so that I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Are there any brands you guys reccomend that are cheap and reliable?

get an IN DASH 6CD CHANGER! Those are the shit, they usually take up 2 slots, but you'll never need to worry about having an extra CD changer in your trunk or glove compartment. I think i've seen a Kenwood like that for ~250.

Bought me one of these suckers 2 weeks ago:

Nuthin fancy, but the sound is good.
Can play mp3 & wma CD's, but I opted to connect it to my mp3-player through the AUX line out.. fuck a CD changer.  8)
Then I bought one of those universal mobile holders to hold the mp3-player, works like a charm.

I would go for a Pioneer either way, they own the car stereo genre.

sikotic, there are many brands out there to consider
one thing thats important when it comes to car audio, is that its all in the installation, you could have the best deck out there, but if its installed wrong, it could sound bad, or mess up some audio components on the car
as for cheap decks, well many brands that make high end stuff, make inexpensive things as well
Examples are Pioneer, Alpine, Panasonic, all of them make affordable things, now if your the not the biggest audio person, then thats fine, a cheaper deck of course wont get you mp3/wma playback but thats up to you,
As for sony, not the best brand, considered by many as the cheap way to go, then again, my brother usedto have a deck, as long as you take care and install properly, you won't realyl haev a problem, i've seen plenty of people with sony decks, no problems for years, it can be different for many people though
clarion can make good stuff too
I was looking up things earlier, for looks, style, feel free to go with pioneer, now, if you want clearer, more functionality with audio, go with alpine

me, personally, I have a panasonic 9800, its got a 60 watts RMS X4 to each channel, yes its 60 RMS, the one below that is only 26watts RMSX4, its a really good deck, and has an internal amplier, works really good for me though, because I hooked up component speakers, its a good choice if u want amp/deck at the same time, but its $500, but it was well worth it
heres a pic of mine:

clarion, pioneer, panasonic, sony, Kenwood, they have all things that will work fine
just have them installed right, now to make sure they fit in your car properly, you can either order or check info from crutchfield.com, when you order a deck from them, you get the kit thats designed to fit your car, that way you dont have to purchase other accessories,
if you got any other questions about car audio stuff sikotic, just hit me up

Head units are a whole other thing. The subs and speakers are junk at best buy but they sell high end Alpine, Pioneer Premier etc. and BTW the high end Pioneer i bought there 4 years ago still works perfectly. Plus i work there so I know whats Junk and not junk.

first off, fuck the homie down the block that says he can hook up your shit. I've did that twice and in the end it cost me more than havin it professinally installed. Secondly,Kenwood is the shit and reliable as hell in my experience. Niot just decks but mids and amps as well. Subs I would go with Kicker. Thirdly, savin and spendin a lil extra definatly pays off in the end.

best buy does not carry high end products, only entry level lines

you cant find fosgates power line there because its higher end, u can only find their entry level "punch" line

you wouldnt find a higher end alpine deck that runs about 500 bucks only the entry level ones that are 300, 200 or less
