Title: Name Dre really wanted to use for Aftermath Rcds..
Post by: infinite59 on August 10, 2002, 05:34:31 AM: He wanted to call it Black Market Records. But there was already a small label using that name in 96. I think it's the label that has XRaided. Dre offered them like 10,000 dollars, but they kept uppin the annee so finally he said "Fuck it" and picked another name for the company. I think Black Market Records was an iller name then Aftermath.

Dre explains this situation in the best magazine article ever, his cover story when he left Death Row, July 96.

But Aftermath fits best, because of all the shit in '96, and it being the Aftermath of Gangsta Rap, and the fall of Death Row. Aftermath was just that, the Aftermath of Death Row, and Gangsta Rap.
