Radiohead's 'OK Computer' has been voted the greatest album of all time in a poll by Channel 4 viewers.
The 1997-opus beat the likes of the Beatles' 'Revolver', REM's 'Automatic For The People' and Oasis' 'Definitely Maybe' to the crown.
Viewers may have been struck by the consideredness of the charts, with the likes of Talking Head's 'Fear Of Music' in the charts, and Robbie Williams languishing at 91. It was all very confusing. In fact, the only two things that made DiS News spew bile were the fact that Alanis Morissette was at no.16(!!!!) and Pet Sounds was only no.33. Disgraceful.
The top 20 is as follows, and you can check the full 100 at the Channel 4 site here:
1. RADIOHEAD - OK Computer
2. U2 - The Joshua Tree
3. NIRVANA - Nevermind
4. MICHAEL JACKSON - Thriller
5. PINK FLOYD - Dark Side of the Moon
6. OASIS - Definitely Maybe
7. THE BEATLES - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
8. MADONNA - Like a Prayer
9. GUNS N' ROSES - Appetite For Destruction
10. THE BEATLES - Revolver
11. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
12. THE BEATLES - The White Album
13. QUEEN - A Night at the Opera
14. COLDPLAY - Parachutes
15. OASIS - (What's the Story) Morning Glory
16. ALANIS MORISSETTE - Jagged Little Pill
17. LED ZEPPELIN - Led Zeppelin IV
18. THE VERVE - Urban Hymns
19. JIMI HENDRIX - Are you Experienced
20. THE SMITHS - The Queen Is Dead
Where's Tupacs "Me against the world" Peter Frampton Comes Alive, Dr Dre's the Chronic, and Led Zeppelin'S PHYSICAL GRAFFITTI?

Its an british pole so there will be little hip hop in it.
I did own ok computer but gave it away as i never liked it, i personally believe thriller should have won it.

Thriller the best album off all time? You guys clearly haven't listened to enough albums. I have hundreds of albums and I still would never dare choose a best album of all time because I haven't listen to every album. If I were to do so THriller would be no where near no.1. Shit, it's not even the best MJ album, Off The Wall is.

NO DR DRE - THE CHRONIC :'(

NO DR DRE - THE CHRONIC :'(
Open your eyes... It might be a supreme album for hiphop, but there's more music outside of that.
Where's Obie Trice's Cheers? ::) 8) ;D

-
yeh bs list, saw this in the paper
almost 100% rock music
no diversity at all
-
did you notice how most of the albums on that list are from British artists?
i'll give pink floyd and the beatles their dues, they definatly deserve to be on there. but coldplay and oasis do not. queen........ehhhh they deserve to be there but NOT THAT HIGH

it doesn't have to be deverse i love rap music but between the catalouges of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the Beatles you have 2 times as many classic albums between these 3 groups than in all of hip hop....true shit.

itīs not such a bad list, but you do notice very well itīs british. "Ok Computer" is great - amazing, but best ever, naw IMO. But really, we could argue for a long, long time, and there are few persons who agree with such lists....Rolling Stone USA had "Sgt. Peppers" on no. 1, that was more or less cool with me, Rolling Stone Germany had "Blonde On Blonde" there, which i disagree with too, plus they almost dickrode Dylan (a great artist no doubt) throughout the whole list...right here Dylan didnīt make a top 20, the Beach Boys and Bruce Springsteen didnīt, they were all Rolling Stone top 10...and are all American. In Rolling Stone though, the best Pink Floyd album was no. 97, which i find very inadequate...so yeah, thereīs always people missing, people you think theyīre overrated, etc...so well, overall, i donīt think this listīs that bad
-
You could tell fuckin students done the list.
-
the worst list i ever saw was done by Spin magazine...
they put Eminem - The Marshall Mathers Lp as the second best album of all time coming second to the Beatles - Sgt. pepper...
-
WTF is u2 doing there?!?!?
-
You could tell fuckin students done the list.
Bunch of dreary boring cunts that they are eh? I shit 'em.
None of the Top 5 would get into my Top 25 albums.

i have over 500 purchased albums so i dont think u can come at me with that one. I personally believe MJ best album is thriller with off the wall and dangerous a close second.
-
the best mj album imo is thriller, off the wall had some VERY cheesy 70's moments
-
Only 3 Beatles albums, nothing by The Doors, no Van Morrison (Moondance is a top album of all time), no David Bowie, no Dylan, no Pet Sounds, no Takes A Nation Of Millions, and Zeppelin IV which I feel is not nearly as good as I & II. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
-
truthfully i think led zeppelin Vi is the greatest album ever, and stairway is the greatest song, 2nd id put revolver, and pet sounds also some were in the top 5...

I wasn't responding to you. You never said Thriller was the best album of all time. I think Off The Wall was better, but I don't have a problem with people thinking it was Thriller. I do have a problem with people thinking Thriller is the best album of all time among all artists. I though the onlt stand out songs were the 3 big singles, Bille Jean, Beat It, and Thriller, and Human Nature. The rest was just run of the mill 80s trash, with the rare Wanna Be Starting Something, that was 70s trash. In my opinion. The McCartney song was good at best, and absolutely horrible when compared to work he had done just 12 years prior.
For the record I was coming at you with anything. I never said "I own al these albums therefore I can make a list an no one else can't". I said I own all these albums and I still wouldn't dream of naming a single album that is better than all the others.

Have you heard any of Zeppelin's other albums? I think IV is overrated and Stairway is not one of their best songs, but that's just me.........
-
^ yea, ive heard most of their albums, and they are all pretty fuckin good..
-
i dont see how ready to die isnt better than anything led zeppelin did.
