Title: does anyone know how the tupac/LL beef started?
Post by: BIG.DADDY on April 25, 2005, 09:25:40 AM
I just got my hands on the Makaveli 2 bootleg and he makes references to LL in a couple of the tracks. How did this begin?

LL Cool J dissed 2Pac on the song I Shot Ya, i dunno why, probably because of that East Coast/West Coast shit. Pac had no problems with LL before that diss, in fact he back when he made Me Against the World, he praised LL in one song.

wrong, wrong, wrong.  In a book on Deathrow, they say something happened at an awards show where LL had to tell Pac not to start shit there or something or another and Pac took it and ran to the studio and said what he said.  But before that, he gave props to L.  I don't think that I Shot Ya was about Pac though.  That was Biggie's Who Shot Ya.

The problem with Pac was that a rapper only had to say something that could be even slightly taken as a dis and he would launch off on one.

The lines Pac took offence to on LL's 'I Shot Ya':

New York appeal, in L.A. they gang bang
But if you touch a mic your motherfuckin ass hang
That's facts, niggaz don't recieve no type of slack
Cause if they do, they ass is always runnin back
Not this time, but next time I'ma name names.

lol relax. It's both the things. LL dissed him in the line quoted by the guy who posted there ^, and when they met at the Awards, they had a though conversation. Then Pac dissed him on LIL HOMIEZ and other unreleased tracks. The guy asked us why did the beef start.

The same reason all of Pac's beef's started.  He was an insecure little man who had to fight with EVERYBODY.  All of his beefs were bullshit, and that's how he ran his life, it's also why he's dead.

Real talk on the most part.

The beef with Biggie was some deep shit IMO - if you believe someone had you set up to the extent that you would be killed, that's hardly a bullshit beef.

But all that extra shit with Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, Nas, Dre, De La, Fugees, LL and so on and so forth - bollocks. Like Trauma says, they were the product of a little guy who wanted to make himself look bigger. That shouldn't detract from what he achieved artistically, but it's true.

yup, i always thought Suge was pullin the strings on Pac WAY more then people like to think. Everyone liked to think Pac was this thugged out, on his own kinda guy. Naw, not IMO. Pac never gang banged, and i think the idea of this Death Row gang backin him up appealed to him. He seemed almost infatuated with it. If you notice, Pac almost seemed to become more a "thug" the more famous and rich he got....dont that seem kinda backwards? lol

^^^ pac had his beliefs, whether they were escalated by suge is another matter, suge pulled him out of prison, he was a strong outspoken dude before suge came along.

Wrong. 2pac gave props to LL in a song, in 1995. Later he started to beef with Biggie, and that's when LL dissed him. So 2pac went to the studio and he spoke about it in a pair of songs, recorded the same day, probably in 10-15 mins. That's 2pac. Dont forget we're talking about unreleased tracks. C'mon now.. And remember LL dissed him first after 2pac gave him props.

About the beefs he had, some were stupid, i agree. But i disagree on this one, expecially cause he never dissed LL in public.

Whatever, anyone can think what they want, but the majority of people around the world, every magazine, and any poll that rolls along still praises and recognizes 2pac as the GOAT so i guess thats all it boils down to at the end of the day.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.  Read Tupac's bodyguard's book.  He outlines what happened between LL and Pac.  It was an award show and Pac was about to start something with somebody (not LL) or something like that and L stopped him and Pac took offense to it.  Also, when I Shot Ya came out, I remember a lot of people saying he was talking about Ice T.  I could be wrong but back then when it came out, that's what people were saying.

Pac was fake. He was a Revolutionary Born and Raised in the East Coast turned Thugged Out Gangsta from L.A., virtually over night. He was a puppet for Suge Knight and did what he was told.

He's still a little man if he let Suge manipulate him like that.

He's dead.  ... mainly because he fought with everybody, and talked non-stop shit.  I didn't say he's not the GOAT!!!!!, I just said he's DEAD.

GOAT? Not IMO.  Suge's Puppet? I don't agree with that either.
Pac was a very intelligent person, you can look at recordings he did as a teen and hear the kind of things he's reading and talking about to see who smart he was.  Tupac started making Gangsta rap when he went to Death Row.  He thought Biggie made an attempt on his life, so he shot back lyrically.  The media made him out to be a gangsta rapper after the shooting.  At that point I don't think he'd released anything that ran that way.  When he was healed and ready to start making music again, it was after a long period of dealing with what had happened to him and paranoia.  He then starts making songs to get at Big.

Pac was the type of person that didn't believe in saying something and not living it.  So he stopped making revolutionary music and living like a revolutionary, and started making gangsta rap and playing the part.

The most overused statement about Pac though is that he was planning to make a switch to more of a message... I don't see any proof of this in his music, other than unreleased tracks that were unreleased for a reason that his mom took and placed an RnB beat under.
