[LYRICS]
[Dr. Dre]
Things just ain't the same for gangstas.
Times is changing, young niggas is aging,
Becoming old gees in the game and changing,
To make way for these new names and faces, but
The strangest things can happen from rappin, when
Niggas get wrapped up in image and actin,
Niggas get capped up and wrapped in plastic,
Zipped up in bags when it happens, that's it.
I've seen em come; I've watched em go,
Watched em rise, witnessed it and watched em blow.
Watched em up high, suddenly watched em grow.
Watched the lawsuits when they lost the dough.
Best friends and money: I lost them both.
Went, visited niggas in the hospital.
It's all the same shit all across the globe.
I just sit back and watch the show. (The watcher)
[Chorus:]
Everywhere that I go
Ain't the same as befo' (The watcher)
People I used to know
Just don't know me no more (The watcher)
But everywhere that I go
I got people I know (The watcher)
Who got people they know
So I suggest you lay low (I watch)
[Dr. Dre]
I moved out of the hood for good, you blame me?
Niggas ain't made me if niggas they can't be.
But niggas can't hit niggas they can't see.
I'm out of sight, now I'm out of they dang reach.
How would you feel if niggas wanted you killed?
You'd probably move to a new house on a new hill.
And choose a new spot if niggas wanted you shot,
I ain't a thug, how much Tupac in you, you got
I ain't no bitch neither.
It's either my life or your life,
And I ain't leaving, I like breathing.
Nigga we can go round for round,
Clip for clip, shit, fo'-pound for pound.
Nigga if you really want to take it there we can,
Just remember that you fuckin with a family man.
I got a lot more to lose than you, remember that,
When you wanna come and fill these shoes. (The watcher)
[Chorus]
[Dr. Dre]
Things just ain't the same for gangstas,
Cops is anxious to put niggas in handcuffs.
They wanna hang us, see us dead, enslave us,
Keep us trapped in the same place we're raised in.
Then they wonder why we act so outrageous,
Run around stressed out and pull out gauges.
Cause everytime you let the animal out cages,
It's dangerous to people who look like strangers.
But now we got a new era of gangstas,
Hustlers and youngsters livin amongst us.
Lookin at us, now callin us busters,
Can't help but reminisce back when it was us.
Nigga we started this gangsta shit.
And this the motherfuckin thanks I get?
It's funny how time fly,
I'm just havin fun, just watchin it fly by. (The watcher)
[Chorus]
(The watcher)

[LYRICS]
[Jay-Z]
Jeah.. uhh.. it's what I do for a livin nigga
Eat for a livin nigga (watcher)
That's how I live for a livin nigga.. (watcher)
Okay, let's do this (the watcher)
[Verse One: Jay-Z]
Things just ain't the same for gangsters
But I'm a little too famous to shoot these pranksters
All of these rap singers claimin they bangers
Doin all sorts of twisted shit with they fingers
Disrespectin the game, no home trainin or manners
I was doin this shit when you was shittin Pampers
I was movin them grams 'fore you, knew what a hand that hand was
Duckin the vans, radars, the scanners
'Fore you knew what hard white to tame was
I was hittin the turnpike, aight with the bammers
I was nice with my hands, cuss aight with them hammers
I was prickin my finger 'fore you knew what a Fam was
I had it laid out 'fore you knew what a plan was
Three hundred mill' later, now you understand us
Y'all ain't see us comin through Vegas
You ever seen so much cham' bust in one night
Grand fucked up one fight
I was on the Peter Pan bus
You was Peter Pan up in your room, y'all fuckin with whom?
Allowed me to be taught
You cowards is just now learnin the shit that we talk
You niggaz ain't know about a Robb Report
Bout a high speed Porsche, i.e.
You niggaz ain't know how to floss 'til I came through the door
like "Eric B. for Pres," respect me in this BITCH!
You can't disrespect us cause you got a little check cut
You was suckin for so long, fuckin your little neck up
Now you too big for your britches, you got a few little bitches
You think you Hugh Hefner, you just ridiculous
I blew breath for you midgets, I gave life to the game
It's only right I got the right to be king
Niggaz that got life really like what I sing
Cause they know is he really like, niggaz feel my pain
Know the shit I DON'T write be the illest shit that's ever been recited
in the game word to the hyphen in my NAME!
J, A, Y, DASH, Hoffa
The past present nigga the future, proper
The holy trinity of hip-hop is us
We give, Dre his props BUT that's where it stops
It's the Roc
[Chorus: Truth Hurts]
I know, you got your eyes on me
I feel you watchin me
But it ain't hard to see that you can't see me
You try, but what you think you saw
Ain't what you thought you saw
You bed-da off not lookin at all
(Everywhere that I go, ain't the same as befo')
(People I used to know, just don't know me no mo')
(But everywhere that I go, I got people I know)
(Who got people they know, so I suggest you lay low)
[Verse Two: Dr. Dre]
I'm still on top of the game
Still droppin flames, still cock and aim
Still at the top had the Roc for the fame
over setbacks, there's been a lot since I came
You seen it all, how I got, how I gained
The momentum when it dropped, how I got through the pain
When I roll and shock, they watched me reclaim
the streets, they made a special spot for my name
Dre, haters wanna stop to my reign
But the music lives in me, every drop in my veins
The pride and the pain
All the way back from the rise of my name
See the world clear through the eyes of the mane
See the world chear for the rhymes that I gave
When the beat bangs it'll drive them insane
The eyes that I played
The best to emerge in the game is The Watcher
[Chorus]
[Verse Three: Rakim]
I'm "Rated R," my brain contains graphics thangs
It turn traumatic teens into addicts, and fiends
It's like, watchin a movie through a panoramic screen
Which means, I can see the whole planet in the scene
Cash is the topic, the object, a fatter pocket
Some take the crack and chop it, but those that haven't got it
take away the added profit, it's catastrophic
I take the gat and cock it, and I'll sit back and watch it
These New York streets is ugly, I keep it gully
The world is mine and can't nobody keep it from me
Yo, my neighborhood is never sunny
In the place where the number one cause of death is money
You can try copin
I've seen enough shit to leave your frame of mind broken
I'm still alive and scopin
Be another hundred years 'til my skies close in
And I'ma die with my eyes open, the watcher [echoes]
[Chorus] T

the watcher!

Just like with BP, the original definitely. Jay-Z's flow was sick as hell, and Rakim came hard as hell on part two, and it just sounded good to hear the beat twisted. However, the message of the original track, especially with it bein #2 on the album, was just more than perfect.
-
The watcher 2 is just lyrically vicious and the remix on the instrumental is just aggressive. If I had insider id make a poll.
-
the watcher!

The Watcher II is an awesome track, but you can't fuck with the OG Watcher. Beat-wise, it's way better...the little keys played during the chorus, the strings in it...incredible production, and Dre delivered a classic joint to open up Chronic 2001.

Agreed! I Mean by No Means At All am i saying the sequel aint Beautiful! I rewind that Rakim verse 3 times everytime i listen to it! The Beat is fucking banging! That "Pulp Fiction" guitar lick is WONDERFUL!

the watcher
although, if i could see any 2 verses live, it would be jay's verse from pt 2 and em's verse from we aint.. they both flow crazy on those tracks and i think they'd be :o :o :o live

the OG watcher
-
I dont know about this one. Rakim's verse on the watcher 2 shits on anything from either track. Dre's flow on the watcher 2 was better than on the OG. But, Truth Hurts sounded like crap, and Jay-z had a verse that was too long. The watcher 2 would've been alot better with dre, rakim, and hittman. i'd have to go with the OG watcher just because the beat is better and its a good song throughout.
-
The second one by miles. Rakim murks both Jay and Dre, and shows what he could've done over a whole album produced by Dre. And honestly, I just never really felt Dre as a solo rapper. I prefer the second's beat as well.
-
I voted 4 the watcher the 2nd one was good but i prefer the 1st one. :) :) :)
-
Why not add Dr. Dre Feat Hittman and Rakim the Watcher 2 OG to tha mix and Eminem's The Watcher One Half? Or Even The Watcher 3 wit snoop freestylin over the beats i got them so if ya need them ask and ill hook them up
-
The Watcher
-
both r classics imo
having a dre solo is dope
but havin jay, dre and rakim on one cut
thats just legendary
and truth hurts killed tha hook
-
What's up with these retarded polls lately?

Could you up those? thanks
-
The Watcher without a doubt
-
im goin with the OG
but watcher 3: feat Snoop, Dre, Hittman was tight
-
The Watcher 2 has one of the most bad ass instrumentals ever in hiphop.
-
original is best 8)
did jay z write the watcher for dre? think i herd that sumwhere...
-
Yea Jay write most of Dre's stuff.
-
part 1, no doubt
-
did jay z write the watcher for dre? think i herd that sumwhere...
I'm pretty sure Rakim wrote Dr. Dre's verse.
-
to me watcher OG is both lyrically and beat wise sicker than the first, say what you want about the cats who spit on the second, but the lines dre spit on the first are straigh up classic, every verse..........
"things just aint the same for gangstas, cops are anxious to put niggaz in handcufffs"......and so on, aint nobody fuckin with the OG watcher lines
peace
-

no Eminem wrote The Watcher
-
i could be wrong but i doubt em wrote the whole watcher joint
-
Im pretty sure Jay-Z wrote The Watcher and mostly likely the second one too. Listen to Jay's Takeover, he uses excerps from the watcher.
-
The watcher part 2 by far. Rakim's verse was fuckin sick.
-
The Watcher
-
ay the watcher 2 most definetley got scott storch on the keyboards thas a beat curz 8) :monkey_dance2: eminem wrote the watcher 1 reet? hoffa he wrote dres 4 watcher 2 n hiself
-
Watcher 1 definitely, it had a bigger impact on my Dr. Dre listening history. Plus, I played out that James Bond theme long time ago. But I agree, Rakim had the best verse out of all verses, Pt. 1 or 2.
-
at first i thought that the Watcher was much better than part 2, but then i noticed the new added elements. part 2 just has a different vibe than part 1; not sure which one i would prefer now.
-
watcher 2.... everyone kills it and the beat is better
-
The Watcher on 2001 is definatly tha best 8) no doubt.
-
Rakim was sick on the 2nd one, I still prefer the first one even the way Dre raps it kinda has that Rakim vibe to it so you can pretty much tell he wrote it and Dre delivered it perfectly
-
Cool thread.
I'mma go with The Watcher from 2001. Don't get me wrong Watcher 2 is a dope track and one of the best off of BP2, but it's a bit too long and I'm not feeling those James Bond effects.

yeah i agree with that.
Eminem wrote nice verses for dre, so i guess i'll go with the watcher.
-
who really wrote "The Watcher"? I am seeing Rakim, Em and Jay all mentioned in this thread. :-\

i was always under the impression that jay wrote ,dre's verse. Em does background vocals, im also pretty sure at one point he was on a version of it.
I say that because at his concert in brixton back in 99 he did a "freestyle" over it which clearly wasnt a freestyle.

The Watcher!!

I think you summed it up perfect. The lyrics on part 2 are awesome, but part one just works so perfect on "2001" as an album track.
