..in the UK at least...
anyone picking it up? i'm gonna later..
I picked up "hero" the other week.. and have had "crouching tiger, hidden dragon" for a long time..
all three are supposed to be very similar... although this one is by the same director as 'hero' so will be very colourful...
-
One of the fellas in work was trying to talk me into watching these kinda movies last week... along with another one dropping soon... can't remember the name, but it stars someone touted as 'the next Bruce Lee'.
-
after watching Kung Fu hustle, I think im going to start watching the serious kung fu movies...going to rent hero first
-
i havent seen kung fu hustle..
i watched "shaolin soccer" the other day.. was hella funny..
how "serious"? .. theres so many different types of kung fu movies..
bruce lee stuff isnt altogether humourless.. but not funny like a jackie chan movie..
these hero/crouching tiger type ones are very artsy...

ong bak
That's the one. Meant to be great from what I've read.

ong bak has some of the best fight scenes ever...shit is just brutal.
I'm waiting for that new jet li movie, "unleashed"...heard its dope.
-
sounds good i'll check "ong bak" out..
i'm not a big "jet li" fan for some reason.. i dunno why.. will check for his shit though.. he was ok in "hero"..
(i do own about 4 li movies.. a once upon a time in china set, the fist of fury remake.. and another one)
i'm beginning to think this guy is a "1 trick pony".. he makes beatiful movies with great scores.. but they seem to dwell a lot on the arty side of things.. and while there is a moral message.. in the case of the movie this threads about.. it pretty much just follows the heart of this girl.. you just dont know until the plot twists happen... 'hero' is more colourful... the fight scenes arent all that.. again they look good athetically.. the sfx are better but more often than not its a repeat of stuff done in CT/HD (he produced that and directed the other two...)
i'd prefer something less arty and more gritty.. proper action actors... it seems nearly any one can star in these movies if they're a bit bendy...
i just read the precis of ong bak.. and it sounds like a good ole kung-fu revenge movie.. looking forward to it finishing downloading :D
bruce lee directed good movies.. i can but dream what it would be like if had he been filmed with the beauty this guy can acheive
my favourite kung fu movie of all time still remains as jackie chans drunken master... simple but skillful... and funny...
