Title: Computer Help (Hard Drives)
Post by: _That_Cracka_J on May 05, 2005, 12:04:43 PM
A few months back I had an external hard drive for my computer and I assigned it drive letter: E.  Later, I installed an internal hard drive and didn't think I'd need the external again, so I assigned it to letter E.  It let me do it because I didn't have the external connected at the time.

Well now I need my external drive and was wondering what would happen if I plugged it in and Windows sees that 2 hard drives are assigned the same letter.  What will happen?

it will automatically assign the next available letter to your external

my external used to be F: but then i partitioned my hard drive again so that took F:

then depending if i have my USB jump drive in the external is either G: or H:

Right-click MY COMPUTER -> "Manage" -> "Disk managment" on the left tree
Then right-click the disk you want to change, and "Change driver letters and paths"
