He definitely opened the door but the West is far from back, it ain't even at how it was back in '99-'00 with Dr. Dre, Tha Eastsidaz, Warren G, Xzibit, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, etc. getting gold and platinum plaques.
So far only Game and Snoop got certified plaques but a lot of West Coast artists are dropping this year so we'll just have to wait.

I give Interscope's marketing machine and Dr. Dre's stamp of approval and 50 Cent's song-writing a lot of the credit. No offense to Game, but without that foundation laid out for him, I highly doubt he could've done the same thing had he not been in the position he's in.

yeah but if dr. dre wouldve used those beats for himself it wouldve been another dre records "whoo hoo" thats dre. hes supposed to do that. if 50 cent used those lyrics for himself another hit for NY. the fact that game is up and comin artist FROM the west coast is what makes it special. i agree with u though but give game credit for being FROM the west coast and steppin up.

One west coast artist, with an east coast sound, with the best producer in rap, with the biggest rap star in the last 2 years (50 cent), with constant exposure on every music network because of his G-Unit affiliation, sells 2 million records. Wow. The west is really back. Lets see someone with "real" talent make it from the ground up without all the pre-packaged fame. Your arguement is a joke. Game was the one dissing all the big west artists before his album sold. He dissed Xzibit, Daz, etc etc. The west will be back when they start getting new artists without huge affiliations on the charts.

Man i gotta give Game props for doing what he did. He was a nobody, and he arrived where he is now, being on top of the West Coast with Snoop Dogg and all the other OG's. Even tho' i'm sure it's not him the guy responsable for his own success (it's obvious it's a combination of Kay Slay/Dr.Dre/Interscope/50 Cent/G-Unit), he still did a good album (far from being classic, but still a solid debut one) and he's still on MTV, in the covers, you know.. he's still big. But till the day i'll see real talented rappers from the West Coast (Crooked I, Sly Boogy, Bishop Lamont, Balance, etc..) getting the right recognition from the media, the West will still be dead, commercially speaking. The truth is that 2005 West Coast is the same 2004 West Coast (Dre, Snoop, Pac, Dogg Pound, Xzibit, Suge, Cube, etc..) PLUS Game. Nothing really changed, Game was just good enought/lucky to add himself to the list. The West aint resurrected yet till young cats will not get the same recognition Game had (thanx to Kay Slay/Dr.Dre/Interscope/50 Cent/G-Unit). You know what i mean?

Man what i said is that Game doesnt have the "power" yet to change things. The only ones who could really change things in the West Coast are Dr.Dre (if he use his "power" and the people he signed for his label to promote another West Coast rapper like Game, or maybe two) and Snoop Dogg (by organizing the West Coast Conference he did a lot to contribute to a West Coast resurrection). But that aint even enought. The key is not the fact West Coast fans hates on each others. The key are New York radio stations and dj's, MTV, BET, XXL, The Source, the media in general, international promotion, big labels watching your back, etc.. and usually those keys are in New York rappers' hands. Game created a buzz because he got loved by New York radio's and dj's. Because of 50 Cent and G-Unit. Game didnt do everything alone, and he yet doesnt have the power to do to another West Coast rapper what 50 Cent did to him. That's what i'm saying. West Coast doesnt have enought "power" to dominate the media. And with no media and with no promotion, you cant compare to Nelly, Ja Rule, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Jay-Z, Outkast, etc..
It's a business, man. Game was been extraordinarry handling his own business, i gotta give him that. But that's it.

None (and i mean litterally NONE) in New York, in 95% of the United States and in 100% of the free world knew him. Now he's a G-Unit. All of a sudden he's on Kay Slay mixtapes, he goes to NY clubs and he's respected, he goes to radio, he's working on a solo album and he'll probably be "the next Game", with 50 Cent calling him a "real gangsta" and a "brother". And i'm sure in some months there'll be another dickryder like you who will say "Spider Loc resurrected the West". The point you are missing is that 50 Cent and G-Unit created them both and USED the West Coast to make money.

I'm not a Game fan AT ALL. I tried to get into him when he was burning up the mixtape scene in hopes that he would "bring back the west" but I'm just not feeling the final product. Its not so much the music because I can accept an eastcoast beat... its his wanna be gangsta image, his booty lyrics, his crappy delivery... all of the name dropping that people call "paying homage." It's sickening.
Him dissin damn near the entire Westcoast killed any chance of me being a fan. We'll see next go round. Maybe him standing on his own might change my opinion but as of now, hes a mark and aint done shit for the Westcoast accept condon gangbanging and endorse fruitless beefs (publicity stunts.)
Now hes sporting a butterfly tattoo, claiming to be about peace. Hes all image. No substance.
Another problem is that he's takin this G image to a whole new level. Yea, Snoops one thing but he's old school. Kids now ah days shouldn't get those kind of messages from "the new school." (my opnion)
Tonio said it best... his success is a result of Dre's involvement and Interscopes master marketing. Not his talent. If you call me a hater, then so be it.

I heard that Obie and Game on Power 106 last night...it was pretty hard to listen to. They both sounded off beat. I don't remember changing the station that fast before. I don't hate Game, I just ain't a fan...
