Dammit you beat me to both of these Nintendo releases today, I jus came on to make a Gameboy micro thread. Well here are the specs so far:
* Launch is slated for this Fall.
* Silver in color for now, expect all sorts of rainbow-flavored variations.
* Dimensions: 4 inches wide by 2 inches tall and 0.7 inches thick.
* Weight: 2.8 ounces (80 paper clips’ worth of weight).
* Processor: Same as GBA SP.
* Form factor: “Gleaming shoulder and start/select buttons that literally shine”, removable and customizable face plate.
* Screen: 2-inches, backlit and the “best Game Boy screen ever” with adjustable brightness controls for use indoors or outdoors.
* Marketing angle: “We’re making the gorgeous Game Boy Micro for image-conscious folks who love video games, the ones who want the look of their system to be as cool as the games they play on it” according to George Harrison, Nintendo of America Sr. VP of marketing. It’s clear that they’re going after the kids who are too cool to carry around an obvious gaming device but who don’t mind carrying something that looks like the cell phone that they’re already carrying.
* Accessories: built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery; supports standard headphones.
* Software: the Game Boy Advance has nearly 700 titles available, all of which will be playable on the Game Boy Micro.

^ No, you can't. All you can play on it is Gameboy Advance games (the small ones). Look for this thing to be cheeeeeaaaaap too. Everybody's gonna get one.

i might jus pick up a sp then, wont the sp screen b atleast an inch bigger or more?
-
^ Yes.
You've got basically, the DS is the flagship system (handheld) and has new DS games , 2 screens, and plays Gameboy Advance Games, too.
The Gameboy Advance SP, with a large backlit screen, and plays all the gameboy games, or
The Gameboy Micro. Only plays Advance games, but the trick is it's really fucking tiny. About the size of a pack of playing cards, and doesn't weigh hardly anything. To compensate for the tiny screen, they gave it an adjustable backlight (like the Sega Game Gear) where you can turn the brightness up or down. I think it's aimed at image conscious people who want something small and sleek, probbaly trying to get more of the female market.

I think its just gay and nintendo trying to get more money
-
why would anyone buy one (new version of SP) when there's newer technology out (DS)?
-
nintendo is just havin a hard time facin the facts that they are slowly fading away wit their wack ass consels and gay ass games so they keep tryin harder and harder to make somethin new
wats da point of releasin this shit wen u released the DS not even a year ago?

1. It'll be cheaper
2. It'll be smaller
3. It's aimed at an entirely different market.

The Gameboy Advance, SP, and DS have sold nearly 30 million systems in the past 3 or 4 years. That's PROBABLY what they're thinking about. Money. Lots of it.
-
Firstly,it looks TERRIBLE & secondly, when the hell are they gonna release a version of Gameboy wit 4 basic buttons (not counting the L & R buttons).
-
nintendo's starting to look a whole lot like sega did right about now. too much hardware and not enough software.
-
Hmmm. I don't understand that, I think basically you're talking out of your ass.
First, the Gameboy advance, which is what this thing plays the games for, has 400 games available already. So, you say 'too much hardware, not enough software', but there's 400 games available for it before it even comes out.
Second, you have absolutely no idea what games are available, or which are coming out. You're just saying there's not enough software. There's plenty of games coming out for the advance, tons of games coming out for the DS, and plenty of gamecube games coming out.

past month nintendo sold more ds than psp and ps2 combine lol

I would hope so, it's been out for 5 years.
Do more people have a PS2 than a Gameboy Advance? No... even though they've been out around the same amount of time, sales of the Gameboy Advance (and Advance SP) have outpaced even the PS2 (and the redesigned PS2).
#1 selling system right now? Gameboy Advance.

Think with some sense. The PSP came out what, a month, two months ago? The DS has been out 6 months, and is still selling more than the newest thing out (the psp) and the most popular console around (the PS2) COMBINED.
Of course you'd rather live in a fantasy world and think this is insignificant.

Nintendo basically has the video game world in a choke hold. I think after all these years, Nintendo knows what it is doing. They released the SP with the idea of a whole different market than the normal Advance, and then released DS with the idea of a different, more older market. Now they have the Micro, and I see that playing to a whole different market. We'll see what they pull off next. But since right now they are not in the top two of home systems, why not dominate what they have dominated for along time, and add to that. The hand held world has been dominated by Nintendo, even though in the past Sage had their Game Gear, NES had their Turbo Grax games play in their hand held systems, and Sony now has the PSP. If the Gameboy can hold up Nintendo, eventually they'll find a home system that will compete with Sony and Microsoft. So who knows.
