Everybody please put your westcoast bias aside as much as possible - it's time to vote for the biggest hiphop classic tracks of all time. Everyone gets to pick 3 tracks from this huge list, and yes, it used to be even bigger.
Taken off the list:
De La Soul - Me, myself and I
EPMD - Strictly business
Gang Starr - You know my steez
Geto Boys - Mind playing tricks on me
Geto Boys - Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
Ice Cube - It was a good day
Jay-Z - Izzo (H.O.V.A)
Jay-Z - Big pimpin'
LL Cool J - Mama said knock you out
LL Cool J - Doin' it
Mobb Deep - Shook ones pt. II
Nas - NY state of mind
Onyx - Last days
Outkast - B.O.B.
Redman - Time 4 sum aksion
Xzibit - Paparazzi
I know it's very likely I even forgot about some classic tracks, but I guess that also means they're not THAT classic, considering the fact they're being forgotten ;D
So... If your pick of (one of) the biggest classic tracks of all time would include one of the tracks I just listed as "taken off the list", select that "Other (taken off the list)" option. It's sort of a list of honorable mentionings: tracks I thought that were just not good enough to make it with the REAL classics. I know it's kinda lame to have 50 Cent - In da club listed with real classics like "Rapper's Delight" and "I know you got soul", but I also know damn well 50 Cent is going to get some votes here.
So... Take your picks, and please don't mess about. This poll should have an interesting outcome.
-
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' but a "G" thang
2Pac & Dr. Dre - California love
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Deep cover
-
Where is The Message? :o
-
Dr. Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringin
Dr. Dre (ft. Snoop Dogg) - Still D.R.E
Snoop Dogg (ft. Tha Dogg Pound & RBX) - Serial Killa

next to nuthin but a g thang and gin & juice i voted for public enemies fight the power. pe got so many dope track... straight classics. it takes a nation of millions to hold us back is IMO one of the greatest rap cds ever made.
-
From your list, I voted for G Thing, Juicy and Gin & Juice
-
G thang: First gangsta single to go platinum right?
Fuck tha police: Most controversial song of 80's
Rappers delight: First ever platinum rap song right?
-
I always thought "I know you got soul" was the biggest classic hiphop track ever created, but it's only got 2 votes so far (of which one was mine). I also realised I forgot to put Warren G - Regulate on that list, but then again, it's not really that much of a hiphop song.
It's damn hard, picking 3 out of a list of 28 classic hiphop tracks that are all worth a 6/5 rating. My votes went to
Eric B. & Rakim - I know you got soul
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' but a "G" thang
Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's delight
-
my 3 songs:
Nuthin'but a G-thang
I know you got soul

-
man WHAT THE FUCK, i wasnt happy woth that list... especially after reading the tracks you considered for jay-z, he's made tracks 500x better than those...
Hey, they're generally considered his biggest hits - I don't even think Jigga has ANY track that should be considered on that list. Just tell me what tracks on the list I forgot about, according to you ;D
-
out that poll i choose:
Big Daddy Kane - Ain't no half steppin'
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin & Juice
Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's delight
-
2Pac & Dr. Dre - California love 9 (10.1%)
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' but a "G" thang 22 (24.7%)
Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy 7 (7.9%)
-
From the list I voted for these tracks:
Dr. Dre - Keep their heads ringin'
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin & Juice
Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.
But I dont know why you took some of the better songs off the list.
-
i tried to choose from the lists so i picked
Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg - Nuthin But A G Thang
Snoop Dogg - Gin & Juice
but i just had to pick "others", just for...
SOULS OF MISCHIEF - '93 TIL INFINITY

-

out of the list I chose:
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' But A "G" Thang
Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy
Slick Rick - Children's Story
-
2Pac & Dr. Dre - California love
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' but a "G" thang
Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy
-
Run-DMC & Aerosmith - Walk this way (I picked this because of the impact it had on the mainstream. It opened up rap to a whole new audience and legitimized it by showing that huge rock-n-roll artists accepted the music. it was hard as hell for anybody to say rap was a "fad" after this)
Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' But A "G" Thang (This took rap to the mainstream. Nuff said)
N.W.A. Fuck the police (One of the most important tracks ever, gave voice to anybody thats ever been harassed by the police, and made the federal government take notice)
-
Nuthin but a 'G' Thang
C.R.E.A.M
Rapper's Delight
-
California Love
Nuthin But A G Thang
Gin n Juice

-
Voted:
Nuthin but a G Thang
Fuck tha Police
Other - Not listed - Forgot about Dre
-
Eric B. & Rakim - "Eric B. Is President" (bigger than "I Know You Got Soul" for sure, it was Ra's first single too)
Big Daddy Kane - "Raw"
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth - "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" (shocked it wasn't up there, it always gets mentioned as one of the best ever)
-
Although I love the Westcoast music....I have to say RUN DMC....they laid it down for Hip Hop...making hip hop enter the mainstream.
-Croyd
-
Damn, no one voted for "La-Di-Da-Di"? That is a huge hip-hop classic. There is no song that has been sampled more (lyricwise) than that one.
-

-
man WHAT THE FUCK, i wasnt happy woth that list... especially after reading the tracks you considered for jay-z, he's made tracks 500x better than those...
