Last year, we were all arguing about whether GTA was the biggest selling franchise of all time, I claimed there's no way in hell it is, because Mario would smash all of them.
Finally, I found the sales figures I needed, can somebody find some current sales figures for GTA?
Nintendo of America mentioned last week some of the franchises that will be making the jump to the new Revolution, and mentioned some sales figures along with it.

The top selling Nintendo Franchise of all time, is the Super Mario series, with 181.17 million units shipped worldwide.
There is NO FUCKING WAY GTA has shipped that many copies.
Second for Nintendo is the Pokemon' Franchise, which Nintendo also owns, at 100 million units shipped worldwide
Anybody got the GTA lifetime sales figures?

I figure 181 million is enough to be any company's top franchise, but it the article doesn't say top gaming franchise it says top Ninetndo franchise. Now I'm certain that it's way higher than GTA, but I wonder what, if anything, did sell more? If arcade sales count as well as home sales, I could see it being Street Fighter. Not too many more franchises come to mind. I can't imagine Quake or Doom selling that many. Final Fantasy may be up there. Megaman sold a lot, but I don't think it was over 180 mil.

That doesn't suprise me. At one point in time I had Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr for the Atari and Super Mario Bros 1,2,3 for the Nintendo.

for people that think GTA sells more than mario, they muct be on crack
1st super mario franchise has no limits on who can buy it, unlike the GTA franchise
2nd, Mario brothers is world wide, a poll done in the late 80's said that Mario's popularity rivaled that of mickey mouse's... GTA III is catching a ban in japan even before it's released there and has caught ban's in other countries

I would imagion Mario 3 on it's own our selling GTA's entire franchise. I love GTA, BUT, Mario 3 everyone had to have and I remember it being like a rear cultural video game take over.
GTA might be up there with the Street Fighter series though, but that's hard to say. Only being on PS2 I think hurt the total sales of GTA 'cause when it finally hit X-Box the interest was lost. Now I'm still picking it up, but I mean it's not like when it first came out period.

Street Fighter has to be higher than GTA. Think about how many versions there were. Like I said above; Street Fight may be the biggest one.

It's a hoax. I read an article about it somewhere... they used some emulators and shit to change the aspects of the game, and edited together several versions of them playing it to make it appear they beat it that fast.

I don't know. I saw the video a few times, and it seems to make sense. I even tried it. I didn't do it quite as fast, but I wasn't so far off that I'd think it was impossible.

Well of course the Mario franchise sold more. The number of Mario games completely crushes the number of GTA games.
