Its usually just tracknames and sometimes scans of the album/mixtape/dvd covers

ok let me break it down a little bit...

whats posted is normally the contents of the .nfo that comes with a rip.. the full rip does contain the mp3s etc etc..

what happens is this...

step 1 : rippers put the albums on top sites. these top sites copy the albums around the world really fast. generally only rippers and couriers (people who copy them around between top sites) and people who run them have access to these top sites.

since the law enforcement agencies have cracked down lately these have become a lot harder to get access to..

step 2: some of the couriers put these things on dump sites (aka dumps) which are easier to get access to than top sites..

step 3: people using either top sites or dumps either 1) copy these albums to other peoples ftp's or 2) put them up on bots in irc..

so to get the rips quick it depends how far up the chain you are.

the main source for people without access to a top site or dump is IRC. 

however.. it can take days for something to appear on irc from when its ripped.. othertimes its very quick if its something that wanted a lot.

if u know someone who has access they can do whats called an FXP (ftp to ftp transfer) onto an ftp you give them passes for (this is what couriers) do... but the thing s.._you_ dont get acess to the place with all the goodies.. so its up to them to send what you want.

i find knowing a few people with FTPs thatswap between each other and using IRC gets me most things..

you dont get stuff for free... you have to put yourself in the food chain to stay 'fed'
