I needed a spare key for my car, so I had to order it through the BMW dealership. I got the cheapest key they had, no little light in it or anything. And it was $71.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never go to dealerships for anything, but that's the only way you can get a new key for a BMW (or so I was told). They take your VIN and then get it cut according to that.

that doesnt sound too bad... try pricing the same thing up at Audi..
i've heard quotes of around $500 US (270 pounds)
and we call dealerships "stealerships" over here now.. lol

i only use dealerships for original parts now..
everything else goes to a backstreet specialist
even though i work next door to a large VW dealership...

You can get a key cut at Home Depot or whatever hardware shop you have in your area. I got a spare cut for my car. What year is your BMW? A lot of them are starting to come with a microchip so only that key can start the car. Maybe that is why it was so expensive.

yeah some keys are fuckin killer nowadays. My sister just got a Lexus IS 300 and that key is crazy as fuck, i can just picture how much that shit would be to replace.
