he did it with snoop and he did it with hittman. you think he has one? the net and rap were just getting popular when 2001 was in progress and soon complete, now its hard to keep things a secret, and artists try to expose themselves as much as possible (not always a good thing).
but do you think dre has someone that he recognized as having lots of talent, took under his wing and has been working with on detox?
I hope he does, cuz no doubt dre has an ear for talent. snoop is obvious, and I think hittman came way tight on 2001 and I woulda rather seen him the next big thing on the west rather than game. so I hope dre has someone kept a secret and we won't hear until the album comes out in 2050.
-
Bishop, maybe?
-
did you read anything in my post?
bishops been heard plenty. I'm talkin bout someone nobody has heard.
-
snoop wasnt a secret protege, dre already gave him a mainstream debut with deep cover.
-
I dunno, I know what you're saying about the internet just becoming popular around the time 2001 was being recorded. We all first heard Hitt on "Housewife", which was originally just a Kurupt remix. So we all knew about him, but we didn't know how much he'd be on there.
So this time may be different, because of the whole .mp3 and mixtape thing. But hopefully he's got some new talent and he'll just put him all over Detox.
-
^^ That's a good point. Snoop was already introduced to the world by the time The Chronic came out. Hittman's a slightly different story, but then again, Dre introduced alot of cats on "2001". I'm always up for a new discovery, but I strongly think that Detox should just be limited to legends and\or artists with whom Dre's worked with closely in the past.

good thread... to answer your question, i don't know. But hopefully.

I don't think dre has a protege. Now a days you need a mixtape background to sell, you need an history, like game and fifty who where both gangstas, and they got shot and shit. In fact, Dre doesn't have much control over is works, jimmy iovine is a real mothafuckin bitch, he's controllin everything, and he have the wining formula. so he'll keep signing rappers like 50 who can drop a lot of mixtape and beef with everyone in the rap game before they even drop an album.

well excuse me, I forgot to throw in snoop dogg's entire history. he made one fuckin song. dont' be so goddamn literal.
-
he probably does, but he prolli wont make it as big as his other proteges

.... i dont know if my message came off as hostile to u, but i said that in a "fact of the day" style fashion. i didnt mean to strike a nerve there.
but since u brought it up, that "one fuckin song" just happened to be a fuckin hit single. snoop wasnt exactly a secret anymore.

Fo sho Twista.
I hope Dre just releases the album soon.
Id like to see him & Quik over a funky beat like $&Sense
-
doubt it. this is detox not the chronic. its maybe his last solo recording. he dont need to introduce a newbie imo. he should make another classic with big names he introduced or worked with in his music career.... like snoop, eminem, ren, cube, eazy (maybe an unreleased verse), tha dogg pound incl. rbx and maybe a few females like rage, jewell, mary j

Bishop will be this man. Wait 16 months n we'll have the answer ;D
-
naw i think bishop is the closest thing to a new artist we'll have on detox. who knows tho, dre might be picking out somebody right now. it might be me!

the poiint is, he had ONE song out. not 2 mixtapes, and 25 guest appearances. like anyone on this forum doesn't know that deep cover is the first snoop song released. I just didnt' feel like writing the history of rap in my original post, as I figured people could get the point I was making. obviously I was wrong.

i hope dre duz like he did with snoop and hittman on detox also with a new cat but i hope also like them albums, its jus one mina new cat, not a bunch of em, with no1 standing out........
i def wanna see snoop on nuff tracks, obviously, thats happened since day 1 tho between these niggaz and it shoudlnt stop on detox
but aswell as ppl from his past his worked with, i wanna see a new cat on detox and hopefully it aint bishop...i wanna see someone with some crazy vioce and flow, kinda like how he bought snoop out, but whetever dre duz, i got faith in him........aslong as he producin his album
peace
-
yeah I hope its not bishop, he's nothin impressive imo.
-
I have no doubt that Dre will keep it West on Detox, and I think it would be dope if he had a secret protege on the album. As far as Bishop goes, I think the album might spotlight him but I don't know about in the sense of Snoop or Hittman. I know that Bishop will be writing for him though, so his presence will be felt. Thing is as far as a secret goes, today with the internet and everything it's hard to keep secrets and people are very eager to announce that they're working with Dre or he's giving them beats.
-
I don't think it would be possible for Dre to pull a total unknown out of a hat & put him or her all over Detox. In this current age any half decent rapper gets internet or mixtape coverage. I hope I am wrong, maybe he has a diamond hidden somewhere.
I want a classic album from the Detox, I hope he has a core of 3 or 4 rappers for the whole thing, not a guest a track.
-
Bow Wow is gunna be on it...hes gunna be like da secret protege ;)
-
I think Spitfiya could be this young protege ..
Btw, I wonder if there's a chance Crooked I will be on a track.
One things for sure; if it's got features of Bishop Lamont, 50 Cent, Eminem & Game, it's not gon' be shit on Chronic and 2001.
-
i hope a texas nigga is on it
Slim Thug or Z-ro and Devin could wreck a Dre beat for sure
so could Scarface
