i've noticed as time progresses in rap that there's hardly and old fashioned solo cd's. it seems it's rare to find a cd with less than 5 other rappers on it.
now i love collabs but i always liked it better when a rapper could hold his own on a whole cd, ex. Scarface The Diary and 2pac's early cd's and Ice Cube's early cd's
what do you prefer?

1 rapper, 1 producer, maybe 2 or 3 features on the entire cd

I agree. I don't like this trend that every rapper has to have at least five guest rappers on his album. It takes away the quality and consistence of the album.
The best recent example is Common's new album. Great album, one of the best of the last few years. Imagine that album with a bunch of guest rappers. It wouldn't be nearly as good.

I agree
it's hard to have as strong a vibe with dozens of different producers and guests, it's more like a compilation than an album.

yep....for example...Gangstarr: Guru & Premo....very few features on their albums...and every album they've made has been either classic or damn near. Atmosphere's albums - Slug & Ant + Mr Dibbs as the dj. All of their albums are way more consistent this way. Its the way it should be
